California residents have long been accustomed to feeling the pinch of higher prices. But now customers across the Country are facing a the same problem with skyrocketing electricity rates nationwide. Utility rate increase requests and approvals totaled more than $34 billion so far in 2025. So far in the first quarter of 2026 utilities have requested $9.4 billion in rate increases. These increases will impact over 81 million customers across the U.S. While California customers have faced the challenge of ever-increasing utility bills, now for the rest of the Country, and those Americans already struggling to make ends meet, the hikes will mean additional economic hardship.
