Job Description: Since 1983, Utility Consumers’ Action Network (UCAN) has vigorously protected the interests of San Diego County utility customers.  UCAN is an Intervenor representing the interests of the ratepayer in regulatory law proceedings at the California Public Utilities Commission.  Our mission is to ensure fair utility rates and billing practices countywide through our advocacy work and through consumer education. We intervene on behalf of ratepayers/customers in proceedings and on behalf of individuals by helping to resolve service and billing issues with utility providers.

Duties: Create, post, revise, and manage UCAN website, eNewsletter, and social media accounts.

Commitment: 15 – 20 hours per week as workload necessitates. Initially, this position will last up to three (3) months but it may be extended based upon mutual agreement.  This is an unpaid position.

Qualifications: A willingness to learn is a must! Applicants should also be creative, have excellent written communication skills, be reliable and dedicated to helping UCAN in their mission to inform, represent and advocate for utility ratepayers/customers. This person will be introduced to what it’s like to manage a company’s social media platforms professionally – a great starting point for anyone interested in pursuing a career in marketing and non-profit management.

Jason Zeller has over thirty years of professional experience in public utility regulation, including experience in all of the industries regulated by the CPUC. Previously he served as an Assistant General Counsel at the Commission for twelve years and was a staff counsel for six years. Jason is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College and New York Law School. He also holds a Master’s in Urban Affairs and Policy Analysis from The New School. He is an active member of the California State Bar Association.
