UCAN slams City of San Diego water rationing proposal

UCAN News

On April 13th, UCAN sent a letter to the City Council explaining how the Mayor's proposed water rationing scheme was all wet.  The letter compares the City's rationing plan to the steps taken by other water districts which use tiered rates and water efficiency instead of (or to supplement) rationing to much greater effect.  It also points out deficiencies of the rationing proposal itself.   Click below to read the letter.

The Fraud Behind Water Rationing

In California only 10% of ALL the water goes to homes. The other 90% goes to industry and agriculture, split about 50/50. If all the water to all the homes were to be completely shut off, the savings would only amount to 10%. If all the homes were to cut back by 10%, the savings would be only 1% of the total water used in California. This current campaign is just another excuse to raise the water rates by making us feel responsible for the shortage of water, when in actual fact, it is industry and agriculture. If they were cut back 10%, there would be no shortage. Check out the details of these usages on the official California website. I am sick to death of the ripoff of our residents over water use. When will someone with the power to stand up to the "Big Boys" tell them to knock it off?

No incentive to save Water

I have just received my latest water bill. We have managed to get our water usage down another 1 HCF to 7 HCF's for two months using extreme conservation methods. They thanked us for saving 59.9% against last year's usage.
So why is our Sewer Service charge $59. 45. For our water usage we have been charged a total of $52.61. The total for Sewer including the credits is $78. 16. We were told that we wont see any benefit of our conservation till July.
Surely with this water emergency, when someone actually saves water they should receive a monetary benefit???

I've conserved all I can, and now...

...if I have a hot month (global warming you know) I may make an extra jug of Kool-aid or actually need to feed my lawn. And I'm faced with a 20% cutback or I get penalized. Outrageous! Simply outrageous!

And back in the late '70s (I believe) when there was such a shortage that the public was encouraged to save as much as possible they did only to have the government want to raise rates to make up for the lost income. Use less and pay more. And the administration doesn't understand why there is all these tea parties? Get real and City of San Diego, do something that isn't punitive to the general public.
