Cox and AT&T penalized for illegal communications with CPUC advisors

UCAN News

UCAN News: A recent decision found that both Cox Communications and AT&T illegally lobbied advisors to CPUC Commissioners in an ongoing case involving UCAN. Both compaines were fined (albeit lightly) for "ex parte" communications. Hopefully the development represents a sea change, as phone companies have been acting with impunity at the CA Public Utilities Commission. Read the decision.

COX SCREWED ME AFTER KNOWING IT WAS THEIR FAULT

my bill is due the 4th of every month ---- they upgraded me without asking to a higher internet speed ---- upon calling and getting this corrected the associate said i was past my "due date" and would need $40.11 to bring account current to correct the upgraded mistake, which i did on the 14th---- on the 22nd of the month a new bill cycled stating i had not paid $28.53 that was "due" on the 4th ----- upon receiving notice on 5th of the next month that my service was to incur a disconnection fee if $28.53 was not paid in 2 days, i called customer service and got someone who wanted to only explain that it was my fault for not paying the $28.53 prior to 12/22/2007 and naturally i asked to speak with a supervisor ----- i asked the supervisor to specifically explain what the $40.11 paid on 12/14/2007 had been applied to since it was not the $28.53 past due amount and the supervisor said he didn't know since he wasn't the person who had taken the payment (since when do supervisors not assume responsibility for the mistakes of the people under them?) ---- at that point i asked for his manager and he then informed me his only manager had left for the day due to a medical emergency and that she would call me back the next day to resolve the issue ----- are we to not have cable or internet service to protect ourselves from the scams these companies are running??? is there no type of legal group out there to exploit and right the wrongs cox communications is bestowing on their customers??? rant over, but hopefully others will speak out against this type of unnacceptable behavior and not just let it slide, so that differences can be made.

Cox Communications

Cox Communications should be ashamed of the tactics that they use, they prey on the elderly and use false statements to get their products into homes. They mail out cable boxes to people and then call to let them know that they have been sent, if you tell them that you don't want the cable box they advise you to send it back. If you don't accept their offer Cox will bill you for the box and the service until they receive the box back. This is all done through telemarketers...they seem to be employed by Cox which is why the do not call list does not apply to them.
I received a call from one such telemarketer, Ethan, and was told that he could give me a free cable box, and reduce my bill by 8.94 -- because I had bundled services and indeed he could because he would, without my knowing it, change my high speed internet to middle speed saving me 15.00 and then charge me 5.?? for the box and he had the ability to do this without my permission. When I talked to customer care, I was told by the lady that I spoke with that she was "very sorry" but she has nothing to do with telemarketing and she was just customer care, all she could do was look at my bill, cancel service and give my new service if I wanted.
What we have found with a very incompetent and uncaring Cox Communications, is that they will always apoligize and offer that a supervisor will call you back within 24 hours, which never happens. I am going to find another service for telephone-internet-television. I think that Cox should be made to answer for the way that they prey on the public, and I have expierenced all of their tactics. I have been billed for using information and never have ever used it through Cox-such a small charge it took me 40 minutes to talk to someone and have it taken off of the bill, I wish I had just .10 cents for every customer that they have - they are making a killing with all of their illegal business and I hope that someday they will have to pay.
