End of Contract

My contract is ending within a couple of days. I'm currently with T-Mobile and want to switch carriers.
CS told me to call 1-800-TMOBILE to cancel...
Is there anything else I need to know or do?

PS: I really don't want to get in to conversations about that they should not be allowed to automatically renew the contracts etc. I just want to make sure I end the contract clean.

Thanks.

No T-Mobile service - will they charge me an ETF?

I signed up for a T-Mobile Family plan to take advantage of the Kids-Free promotion buying a family plan with unlimited Texting. After receiving the phones I found out that I don't get coverage in my house. I called support but they couldn't fix it, so they told me to just cancel the plan as they couldn't get coverage. So I cancelled the account due to the lack of coverage. Funny thing was after I cancelled they never asked me for the phones back - and I did read that they don't charge an ETF for lack of coverage (though I don't know if it was a reliable source)

Can I pay the month's bill and keep the phones without penalty?
