Health Clubs

At present, no governmental agency oversees these facilities. However, contracts for health studios require at least a three-day cancellation option, a limitation on financing (maximum 3-year term), and a maximum $1,000 contract price (excluding interest or finance charges). If you move more than 25 miles from your health club, and the club is unable to transfer your contract to a comparable facility, you do not have to make payments for any services you haven't received, although you may be liable for a cancellation fee of up to $100. Misleading advertisements should be referred to the City or County Attorney Consumer Protection or Fraud Unit. The Department of Consumer Affairs does take complaints about health clubs, spas, and studios.

Curves

Back in 2005-2006 I signed a contract with curves in Lantana, Florida (Lantana Road and Congress). I had physical therapy on my back injury and was told to quit. However, for months after they continued to take the amount out of my bank account. I contacted the club here and they refused to refund my money. I even called the headquarters in California and they refused also.l I think I should have gotten a refund.
