CPUC Starts Sunrise Powerlink Information Hotline

The PUC sent out a press release regarding a toll-free hotline consumers can call for information about SDG&E's Sunrise Powerlink. See the press release after the jump.

Sunrise: The Line to Nowhere?

Sunrise Powerlink was advertised as a "green" line that was going to connect San Diego to low-cost renewable power in the Imperial Valley.  Just $2 billion for energy nirvana.   And the cornerstone of the Sunrise line was to be the 900MW of solar power coming from the Stirling Solar Generation project.   SDG&E had a signed contract and everything was all set for generation to begin in 2009.    Oh yeah, the powerline also would eliminate the need for any large power plants to be sited inside San Diego County.   Remember all of those promises?   So guess what............

SDG&E's search for "missing link" continues

Sunrise PowerLink: Is it really THE missing link as SDG&E claims ?
Is it some kind of horrible Freudian slip? If you've studied the Sunrise PowerLink, you know that it is an over-priced backward technology promoted by misinformed business people, neanderthal bloggers, and old-school energy troglodytes. Perhaps this is why they are all spinning Sunrise as "The Missing Link."

Sunrise Hijinks: UCAN urges rejection of SDG&E's attempt to lease a portion of the unbuilt line as a payoff to a Sunrise supporter

A 2009 application presented by SDG&E and Citizens reveals a financial transaction that leverages current FERC transmission incentives in order to secure reimbursement for Citizens of its costs incurred in its support of the Sunrise transmission project.
SDG&E is able to reward Citizens for its support of this controversial transmission project by
burying up to $22 million in higher costs in a fairly complex leasing arrangement. On the
surface, the lease arrangement appears benign. Yet, when UCAN dug into the scheme, it found
compelling evidence that not only did SDG&E ratepayers not benefit but were more likely to be the ultimate losers in the deal.
