another way to increase high gas prices
I applaud the creativity of this idea, however, I struggle to see a favorable endgame for consumers. If we stop buying candy and drinks from mini marts (which is a sizable portion of retailer income), what stops gas station owners from raising the price of gas even more to compensate for the lost food and beverage income? As said earlier, buying gas is a NECESSITY, so you could probably put one mini mart out of business with this tactic, but beyond that you'd start to raise the price of gas everywhere.
Another Way to Protest High Gas Prices
I have heard about the proposed May 15, 2007 boycott of gas stations. That may be a good idea, but eventually people need to fill up again. So, where does that leave the public?
I would like to propose that everyone who fills up their tanks with gas DO NOT PATRONIZE the mini marts attached to gas stations. If those merchants don't have any sales other than gas, they will get upset over loss of high revenues. By refusing to buy candy, drinks, cigarettes, etc., from Chevron, Shell, 76, Arco, etc, minimarts, it might prompt the minimart store merchants to plead with the gas suppliers to lower the prices on gas so consumers will come back.
REMEMBER, BUYING GAS IS A NECESSITY--BUYING CANDY AND CIGARETTES FROM THE MINI MARTS IS NOT A NECESSITY.
Everyone should think long and hard on this--by banding together and refusing to buy merchandise from mini marts just might force the gas suppliers to lower the unfairly high gas prices!!!!!
