Gas Tops Three-Dollar Mark
Tight supplies and speculators have helped send San Diego County prices rising for the fifth consecutive week.
Friday, March 9, 2007
A regular gallon of unleaded gas is going to cost motorists, on average, $3.01. That is the price from the Utility Consumers' Action Network, UCAN, as of Friday morning.

But that price is expected to rise. Charles Langley with UCAN said it is hard to say how far prices will go up, but there is no doubt they will. He said independent dealers have to charge $3.13 a gallon just to break even. And he said the big brands usually follow.

Average gas prices in California are now the most expensive in the country, topping Hawaii.

Langley says the market has been very volatile and unpredictable over the last year, so there is no telling where prices will go.

Either way, gas prices are the most expensive they have ever been so early on in the year. They are almost 40 cents more on average than last month and a year ago.
