Gas prices surge to record high, but at $3.40 a gallon, the hikes are not justified
Today, UCAN's Gasoline Survey reported an average price of $3.40 a gallon for regular unleaded. This is the highest average price ever reported for San Diego gasoline in any November in history, and is just ten cents shy of the all-time record price of $3.50 a gallon, set on May 8, of 2007.
Ironically, this week's price spike has come during a time when fuel prices on the spot market have dropped 14¢ since Monday.
According to UCAN's Gasoline Project manager, Charles Langley, "Yes, oil is above $90 a barrel, but to raise prices 8¢ when the price of raw blendstock has dropped 14¢ defies logic. It suggests that the market is anticompetitive."
STATISTICS:
Today's gas price: $3.40
Monday's gas price: $3.325
This day last Month (November 15) - $3.06
This day last year (November 15, 2007) - $2.47

problem with Super gas stations in El Cajon
People should be aware that the Super gas station on Broadway and First St, El Cajon does not have a price listing for regular gas. The staff will say that they are waiting for a gas delivery. But on the pumps there is a posting from the U. S, Dept of Food and Agriculture that the regular gas in the pumps is contaminated and can't be used. The only gas at station that is for sale is the mid price and the premium gas. The posted gas price on sign for mid priced gas is $3.26 cents per gallon; but on the pump the mid priced gas price is $3.29 cents per gallon.
This is outrageous! The oil refineries are selling contaminated gas to an independent gas station and cheating the public. And the owners of the gas station are being cheated because they are deprived of the legitimate profits from their business. This is another method to put independent gas stations who buy gas on the spot market out of business, thereby hurting the pocketbooks of the gas buying public even more.
I hope they go up to 5, 6 7
I hope they go up to 5, 6 7 dollars a gallon. Then and only then will people quit complaining and demand better mass transit, car pool, walk, bike.
Americans, Fat, lazy and whiners.
record gas prices at the pump in san diego county
Re: gas prices soar to record high, but at $3.40/gallon, the h ikes are not justified. Langley's comment suggesting oil market is anticompetitive in san diego is right on. I believe the only competition out there is oil companies racing to see who can destroy the oil market (competition) first. I also believe the oil companies are in this "race" with the blessing of the "oval office".
