Gas prices spike 7¢ in one week, 3.5¢ in 72 hours
Today, UCAN's Gasoline Project showed a 3.5¢ increase in the cost of regular gas in the last 72 hours.
The current average price for regular gasoline in San Diego County is $2.91 a gallon, up 7¢ since last Tuesday.
Typically, price movements that are more than a penny a day are considered "major moves" by the oil industry. Today's price is the result of a major move, with most Arco stations raising prices from 4 to 9¢. According to UCAN's Gasoline Project Manager, Charles Langley, the aggressive price hikes by Arco signal more increases in the next week.
"Arco maintains the price floor for gas prices in California," says Langley, because of their massive market share and an anticompetitive environment, when Arco raises the price, everyone else must follow."

What, prices going up...again?
During August we were being given info that gas prices would PROBABLY continue a downward trend to the end of the year. Yes, we could expect a bump in prices during holidays such as Labor Day, but that's it. Well, this latest trend started the week before Labor Day and has continued well past the holiday. How far will it go? When will it end. Will UCAN be a reliable source of info ever again?
