problem with debt collectors

i had a terrible experience with debt collectors a couple years ago. but i agree with Cristian that if you find debt reduction companies to help you out, you don't even have to deal with the anxiety and pressure that these collectors put people through

debt collectors

You can easily get a debt relief by simply going to the bank and I don't understand the use of these companies.

As far as I see, this is a serious problem specially for people facing difficulties in paying back their debts. Things shouldn't be like that at all, we all should be aware of our responsabilities and make plans into fulfilling them. I don't really like the "collecting" strategy, there are other options and we can get access to relevant informations about alternatives in paying our debts. A debt settlement program could be on our options list.

how can I stop harassing collection calls?

Ok, I really don't know what to do about these creditors calling everyday. They start as early as 8:45am to 8-9 pm at nite?! What is average call time for them anyway? When do you guys get involved? I am currently with FR Corp and it has not been a month yet. But they informed me that is usually takes about 6 months before they even start negotations with the creditors?!?

I don't know if I can hold them off for 6 months? These calls includes my parents bills as well, because I am their Power of Attorney, so I have a lot of them calling. I just mostly leave the phone of the hook for awhile, but on those days when I am not at home to catch the phone my elderly parents get the calls and they don't understand and they get very upset with the creditors once they hear how far behind they are. So any suggestions, on how to cut back on these calls or eliminate them all together would be of great help to me. My father has Alzeheimers and my mother Cancer and diabetes, so I really don't need anything upsetting them this bad, so your help is greatly appreciated on eliminating these calls.

Thanks.

J. C. Penny offers a credit, then sends collection agency

JCPenney opened a 2nd acct. for me, without my knowledge, 2years ago. They sent me a credit of $93 which I spent. They then sent a collection agency to collect $178. J.C. Penney profusely apoligized and said I should send them the $93 and rehabilitate my acct. I did so.
They have had 3 credit agencies after me with dozens of calls, even though they made an error, have all the information in TX, and have told me all was o.k. I have never owed anyone anything in my life. I am a professor of nursing, and own my own home. I am deeply upset with collection calls.
