Electric cars

In the latest UCAN news letter, a list of things to come overlooked two. Unpleasant as it may be, someone has to pay for the roads. We can't get it from Uncle sam, he's nearly broke. I predict that the legislature will find a way to tax electric cars. California (and other states) are being cheated out of millions, if not billions of sales tax revenue from out of state purchases on the internet. Prediction No.2— Congress or the state will find a way to address that problem--within two years. Learn to live with it. There really is no free lunch.

Stimulus Revolves around the Automotive Industry

There are other parts of the Stimulus Package that include tax rebates and incentives for businesses. Business expansion, job creation and U.S.-located ownership are all goals of the tax rebate portion of the bill. The hope is that if businesses are encouraged financially, they will create more jobs that will employ more Americans. It also is set to encourage businesses to keep their roots in the US and refrain from outsourcing. Again, the hope is that this will also jump-start the economy. Their hope is that consumers will put that money back into the economy, thus reinvigorating it and helping the country move out of the recession quicker. Another key part of the stimulus revolves around the automotive industry: anyone who buys a new vehicle in 2009 will be allowed to deduct the sales tax paid on the vehicle from their taxable income. In a typical scenario laid out by USA Today (see the previous link), an “average” car purchase would reduce an individual’s taxable income by roughly $700. The stimulus package is a subject of great controversy. The stimulus adds up to almost a trillion dollars. It is an enormous cash advance giving emergency cash to stricken industries that are in need of immediate cash. A little less money will be taken out in taxes for working stiffs to help them pay bills, and also to private lenders in order to stimulate lending and credit. It's very similar to when a normal person needs a payday loan to get a little temporary debt relief? That’s what the stimulus is for.

Needs.

its our needs we cant escape from it

Needs.

I think fuel is the demand of today and we can't survive without these things because they are our needs.

Define "needs"

We have a tendency to exaggerate our needs these days. I have a friend who thought he needed an SUV, because he had 2 kids. Finances dissuaded him. You need an SUV (or minivan) if you have 5 or more kids — not one or two. When I was a kid, there were no SUVs, and we got around just fine (3 kids).

In fact, cars have consistently become more fuel efficient throughout the past 2 decades. It's just that most of this has been taken up by making them bigger. A Toyota Corolla used to be a subcompact. Now it is a compact. It's uses a little less fuel than it used to, but if it stayed the same size, it would use a lot less. Also, the popularization of SUVs, minivans, etc. accounts for a lot of this.

reply

If we stopped buying gas-guzzlers and demanded ultraefficient vehicles, Detroit would make them. But instead, we hunger for performance and living room comfort. That packs on the pounds, making autos less efficient.

The '70s and '80s were a great time for gas mileage. Because of that whole oil-crisis thing, average fuel economy actually rose from 1975 to 1987. Since then, it's been falling. Today, fuel efficiency is 8 percent lower than it was in 1987. What happened?

Gas is cheap now

Maybe I should get an SUV? Gas is cheap these days.

And as every junior genius knows, it will always be cheap. Once it goes down, it stays down, right? That's been the pattern over the past 3 months, and I've been smoking so much pot that I can't remember further back than that. Anyways, last year is ancient history. I was shocked when gas prices went up the last 5 times, but I won't be shocked again, because I wish, I wish, I wish, it'll never happen again.

Some spoil sports say that once this recession is over, gas prices will go so high that $5 a gallon will look like a bargain. Don't you just hate rational people?

WHY GAS COSTS SO MUCH - IT ISN'T WHAT YOU THINK

I came across a discussion on C-Span last night with Michael Greenberger taking callers' questions. He was the former director of the U. S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (Google him for an impressive resume.) I found an article on the Internet that summarizes what he said. He stated that 60% of the increase in gas prices can be attributed to UNREGULATED futures trading. It is unregulated because President Bush exempted it from regulation in 2006. Reminds me of Enron and California's unregulated electricity cost spike.

For an informative and not too long article on gasoline prices see....

http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=9042

I urge UCAN to publicize the information and explanation found in this article. Mr. Greenberger is to appear before a U. S. Senate hearing next week concerning this unregulated (thanks to George Bush) futures trading.

Re: Website to help decrease gas consumption, www.brightgreen.us

Here is a cool website to add a fuel heater called Max Warmer and Fog Inducer to make your fuel burn like propane. Check this out!!!! Also discusses fuel, fuel additives in great detail along with oxygen sensors and spark plug wires and plugs. The website is http://www.brightgreen.us (Note it is not http://www.brightreen.com).

tail gates and MPG?

Hi,
I just received and read the Guzzler Buster booklet today. I have 2 questions that were not covered in it. 1. What is the verdict on tail gates up or down for better MPG? 2. My Titan has rear window that can go down fully. Does my MPG get better gas milage without the A/C on with some windows open and my back window down? Seems to blow the air out as I drive. Thanks

keep tailgate up for better MPG

1) Theoretically, you'll save gas with the tailgate up, and the odds of getting a ding in your truck are lowered. Tests done show that the air in the tailgate creates a bubble that the outer air passes over when traveling at 55+ MPH. hard to believe, but true. See http://hubpages.com/hub/Gas_Saving_Tips, ... although as any chaos theorist will tell you, predicting wind turbulence is almost impossible - it is inherently chaotic at different speeds.

2) Keep the rear window closed and use the A/C. The improved aerodynamics will offset the 30 or so horses you lose from the air conditioning.

Thanks for writing,

Fuel economy and emissions reduction

The cleaner your oil is, the better your engine will run, and the longer it will last. Fluid preventative maintenance is the key to optimizing engine and drive-train efficience (increasing fuel economy) and reducing mechanical wear and toxic tailpipe emissions.

Fluid testing & analysis by Fluid Rx Instant Lubricant Diagnostics based here in San Diego provides consumers with a simple proof positive means of monitoring all vehicle fluids. Their Magna-Guard Oil Filter Magnet greatly improves filter performance reducing engine wear 8 to 14 times; coupled with their Fuel Energizer Rx micro-chip improves engine eficiency by 5% or more, in some cases much more.

We would be please to share our documentation of the benefits of these simple inexpensive universal comsumer products that can reduce our Nation's dependency on foreign oil by no less than 5% and reduce Co2 emissions by more than 20%.
