Stimulus Not Enough to Jump Start Car Sales

On February 17, President Obama signed a controversial and massive $787 billion economic stimulus package into law, and hailed the action as a stepping stone towards turning the economy around, as it will lower taxes, incentivize home buying and, according to the Administration, create or save millions of jobs. Another key part of the stimulus revolves around the automotive industry: anyone who buys a new vehicle in 2009 will be allowed to deduct the sales tax paid on the vehicle from their taxable income. In a typical scenario laid out by USA Today, an “average” car purchase would reduce an individual’s taxable income by roughly $700. Not exactly a ton, but in today’s economy, every little bit helps, right? Well, apparently it does, just not enough to spur car buying. According to a recent poll, the provisions in the recently passed stimulus bill will not be enough to get most Americans to go out and purchase a new vehicle in 2009. Many of the car purchases made during the recent real estate boom were financed by people taking out home equity installment loans. However, with real estate values plummeting across the country, less and less people are able to use this particular financing to go on a car shopping spree.

Only one problem. The County

Only one problem. The County of San Diego is not doing its job. Before UCAN intervened, the County did not realize it was failing to comply with California law. The County is failing to protect local consumers who may be victims of corporate greed by not taking cable customer service sat exam sat test complaints and then filing a formal complaint with the FCC so the FCC can challenge the reasonableness of the rate increase. Still requiring a cortical

Still requiring a cortical node to sustain the remnants of her implants and left with the slightly sinister ability to sense when the Borg are near, Seven struggled with a lack of human emotion. Her blunt, condescending attitude was a source of perpetual conflict aboard Voyager and whenever the crew encountered the Borg, there was always the worry she would turn and betray them in order to be re-assimilated into the cybernetic hive mind. But despite her coldness and apparent superiority complex, we grew to love her need to belong and increasingly desperate desire to make up for the evil things she had done in her past.

On January 26, 2009, President Barack Obama directed the Department of Transportation to review relevant legal, technological, and scientific considerations associated with establishing more stringent fuel economy standards, and to finalize the 2011 model year standard by the end of March. This single-model year standard was issued March 27, 2009 and is about one mpg lower than the fuel economy 70-555 standards previously recommended under the Bush Administration. "These standards are important steps in the nation's quest to achieve energy independence and bring more fuel efficient vehicles to American families," said Secretary LaHood. The new standards will raise the industry-wide combined average to 27.3 miles per US gallon (8.62 L/100 km; 32.8 mpg-imp) (a 2.0 mpg-US (2.4 mpg-imp) increase over the 2010 model year average), as estimated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It will save about 887,000,000 U.S. gallons (3.36×109 L) of fuel and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 8.3 million metric tons....

Stimulus as a starting point

I agree that stimulus is a starting point of any activity. It's a naturally determined factor of human essence. Create a good stimulus for people and they will start doing something and achieve results. Job creation is one of the best stimulus, as for me. Designing a proper conditions will lead to perfect results. If common people suffering from unemployment will get suitable job places with good level of salary, their productivity will increase a lot. Appropriate motivation brings perfect results. Support of the local businesses is also important because a lot of businessmen seach for investing abroad and, therefore, import their goods instead of making them a national product. This also reflects on the prices. Due to the fact that people often lack money because of the high level of unemployment they are maid to apply to payday loan companies and get into troubles with managing their budget.

Whiplash Compensation Claim

Whiplash compensation claims are one of the most common personal injury claims made by people involved in road traffic accident. A whiplash injury is caused by a sudden forwards and backwards movement which causes the soft tissue of the spine to stretch. Looking to make a Whiplash Compensation Claim? Our UK solicitors work on a no win no fee basis and you keep 100% of your compensation for whiplash injury.

More Spam

We should make it harder to claim whiplash. In fact, maybe it already is. I've gotten whiplash 3 times from being hit hard from behind. I was examined by a doctor each time. Every time they said that it's just a sprained neck muscle. No permanent damage. Take some ibuprofen and it should be gone in a week or two.

They also TOLD (not asked) me that I was wearing a seat belt. They could tell because my injuries were not serious. Liability in an accident should be reduced significantly if the other party was not wearing a seat belt.

Electric cars

In the latest UCAN news letter, a list of things to come overlooked two. Unpleasant as it may be, someone has to pay for the roads. We can't get it from Uncle sam, he's nearly broke. I predict that the legislature will find a way to tax electric cars. California (and other states) are being cheated out of millions, if not billions of sales tax revenue from out of state purchases on the internet. Prediction No.2— Congress or the state will find a way to address that problem--within two years. Learn to live with it. There really is no free lunch.

correction

I should have previewed that. This forum software is perverse.
Here's a more version of that last part.

... The bill says "Pay to {the name of your town}, and that's where you send it.

Don't trust Obama

Yes, the federal government will find a way to tax Internet sales, but they'll keep the money for themselves instead of giving it to the states, which need it a lot more, because states are required to balance their budgets, but Uncle Sam isn't.
The auto excise tax where I live is levied by the state but collected by the cities and towns. The state determines the amount, keeps the records of all the car owners, and sends out the bills. The bill says the pay to and that's where you send it.

PS: I buy on the Internet only when absolutely necessary.
1. too much hassle to return stuff
2. can't see the product only pictures of it, and pictures are very deceptive
3. get deluged with junk mail
4. harder to track them down if you get cheated

Stimulus Revolves around the Automotive Industry

There are other parts of the Stimulus Package that include tax rebates and incentives for businesses. Business expansion, job creation and U.S.-located ownership are all goals of the tax rebate portion of the bill. The hope is that if businesses are encouraged financially, they will create more jobs that will employ more Americans. It also is set to encourage businesses to keep their roots in the US and refrain from outsourcing. Again, the hope is that this will also jump-start the economy. Their hope is that consumers will put that money back into the economy, thus reinvigorating it and helping the country move out of the recession quicker. Another key part of the stimulus revolves around the automotive industry: anyone who buys a new vehicle in 2009 will be allowed to deduct the sales tax paid on the vehicle from their taxable income. In a typical scenario laid out by USA Today (see the previous link), an “average” car purchase would reduce an individual’s taxable income by roughly $700. The stimulus package is a subject of great controversy. The stimulus adds up to almost a trillion dollars. It is an enormous cash advance giving emergency cash to stricken industries that are in need of immediate cash. A little less money will be taken out in taxes for working stiffs to help them pay bills, and also to private lenders in order to stimulate lending and credit. It's very similar to when a normal person needs a payday loan to get a little temporary debt relief? That’s what the stimulus is for.

The '70s and '80s were a great time for gas mileage. Because of that whole oil-crisis thing, average fuel economy actually rose from 1975 to 1987. Since then, it's been falling. Today, fuel efficiency is 8 percent lower than it was in 1987. What happened?

Gas is cheap now

Maybe I should get an SUV? Gas is cheap these days.

And as every junior genius knows, it will always be cheap. Once it goes down, it stays down, right? That's been the pattern over the past 3 months, and I've been smoking so much pot that I can't remember further back than that. Anyways, last year is ancient history. I was shocked when gas prices went up the last 5 times, but I won't be shocked again, because I wish, I wish, I wish, it'll never happen again.

Some spoil sports say that once this recession is over, gas prices will go so high that $5 a gallon will look like a bargain. Don't you just hate rational people?

WHY GAS COSTS SO MUCH - IT ISN'T WHAT YOU THINK

I came across a discussion on C-Span last night with Michael Greenberger taking callers' questions. He was the former director of the U. S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (Google him for an impressive resume.) I found an article on the Internet that summarizes what he said. He stated that 60% of the increase in gas prices can be attributed to UNREGULATED futures trading. It is unregulated because President Bush exempted it from regulation in 2006. Reminds me of Enron and California's unregulated electricity cost spike.

For an informative and not too long article on gasoline prices see....

http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=9042

I urge UCAN to publicize the information and explanation found in this article. Mr. Greenberger is to appear before a U. S. Senate hearing next week concerning this unregulated (thanks to George Bush) futures trading.

How do I do that?

"(Google him for an impressive resume.)"

I can't use Google on my computer. My privacy settings keep rejecting it. Can I find this guy using a different search engine, or can only Google find him?

Re: Website to help decrease gas consumption, www.brightgreen.us

Here is a cool website to add a fuel heater called Max Warmer and Fog Inducer to make your fuel burn like propane. Check this out!!!! Also discusses fuel, fuel additives in great detail along with oxygen sensors and spark plug wires and plugs. The website is http://www.brightgreen.us (Note it is not http://www.brightreen.com).

tail gates and MPG?

Hi,
I just received and read the Guzzler Buster booklet today. I have 2 questions that were not covered in it. 1. What is the verdict on tail gates up or down for better MPG? 2. My Titan has rear window that can go down fully. Does my MPG get better gas milage without the A/C on with some windows open and my back window down? Seems to blow the air out as I drive. Thanks

keep tailgate up for better MPG

1) Theoretically, you'll save gas with the tailgate up, and the odds of getting a ding in your truck are lowered. Tests done show that the air in the tailgate creates a bubble that the outer air passes over when traveling at 55+ MPH. hard to believe, but true. See http://hubpages.com/hub/Gas_Saving_Tips, ... although as any chaos theorist will tell you, predicting wind turbulence is almost impossible - it is inherently chaotic at different speeds.

2) Keep the rear window closed and use the A/C. The improved aerodynamics will offset the 30 or so horses you lose from the air conditioning.

Thanks for writing,

Fuel economy and emissions reduction

The cleaner your oil is, the better your engine will run, and the longer it will last. Fluid preventative maintenance is the key to optimizing engine and drive-train efficience (increasing fuel economy) and reducing mechanical wear and toxic tailpipe emissions.

Fluid testing & analysis by Fluid Rx Instant Lubricant Diagnostics based here in San Diego provides consumers with a simple proof positive means of monitoring all vehicle fluids. Their Magna-Guard Oil Filter Magnet greatly improves filter performance reducing engine wear 8 to 14 times; coupled with their Fuel Energizer Rx micro-chip improves engine eficiency by 5% or more, in some cases much more.

We would be please to share our documentation of the benefits of these simple inexpensive universal comsumer products that can reduce our Nation's dependency on foreign oil by no less than 5% and reduce Co2 emissions by more than 20%.
