Home energy audits may be a wise investment

I think we'd all be very surprised if someone handed us cash representing how much energy is wasted in our homes. Even when we try to be careful of turning off the lights and limiting ther use of our applicances, we're just not trained to recognize where the waste is. In addition to San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), there are now businesses out there, that for a fee, will do a thorough inspection of your home and give you recommendations on low-cost -- and not-so-low-cost measures you can take to make your home more energy-efficient.

As always, UCAN recommends that you carefully check out such companies with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) before doing business with them.

Here are some companies that we researched that perform these types of audits and we will be adding more to the list in the future,

Audits run $500-650 depending on size of residence and mechanical systems in the residence. This company can do upgrades or can refer people to other business to perform those upgrades.
