Power Politics: How SDG&E distorts facts in its public campaigns

UCAN News

Ever wonder how far SDG&E will go to distort the truth for its own gain?   Here's a wonderful case study summarized in a cut-to-the-quick letter authored by County Supervisor Dianne Jacob on July 16th.   If ever there were a cautionary tale about whether to believe ANY facts that SDG&E presents to the public,  this is it.

In this case,  SDG&E commenced a choreographed effort to attract public support for its very controversial backcountry shut-off "de-energizing" plan,  the utility's President and CEO Debra Reed sent a lie-laden letter to regulators and politicians criticizing the County's opposition to the plan.   Because SDG&E didn't have much of an argument,  it had to come up with falsehoods and exaggerations to make a case.   Supervisor Jacob's letter deconstructs the Reed letter in devastating fashion,  revealing the fractured filter by which SDG&E views reality.   Click here or on the attachment below to read the letter.

To read more about how SDG&E tries to manipulate the political process, there's some excellent coverage by the Union Tribune.   You can click here for some additional parts of this case study in power politics.
