UCAN' Expert Testimony on Sunrise PowerLink Alternatives

EXPERT TESTIMONY: In the two reports published this month, UCAN's testimony shows why the Sunrise Project causes economic and environmental harm to San Diego citizens. UCAN counters SDG&E 's claim that it must build the Sunrise PowerLink in order to be environmentally responsible with a 45 page report showing otherwise. UCAN's expert analysis of the Sunrise Transmission Project shows that there are at least 3 better alternatives to costly imported power. SDG&E's true motives for the project are threefold: 1) It will generate income by building an unnecessary power line at your expense. 2) It will allow SDG&E to buy power from its corporate affiliate, Sempra Trading instead of using cheaper local alternatives, and 3) It gives SDG&E an unnecessary opportunity to pad its profit margin by adding a $1 billion+ asset to its books....at ratepayers' expense. Bluntly, SDG&E's attempt to justify this project on the basis of environmental concerns are shameful.

UCAN's rebuttal testimony examines how SDG&E has tried to resuscitate its case for the powerline by jiggering all of the numbers and effectively disavowing the economic case it made for the line in 2007.   However, the number manipulation doesn't work.   Sunrise still doesn't pencil out.   And UCAN's alternatives look that much more attractive.
