Credit reporting agencies collect and report information about your credit history, including purchases, payment history, and bills. Credit reporting agencies do not verify the information they receive from the companies you do business with. Therefore, you should get a copy of your credit report from all three of the following agencies about once a year to verify that their information is accurate. Reports costs about $8.00 each. If you are unemployed, on welfare, a victim of fraud, or have been denied credit because of your report within the past 60 days, your credit report can be received at no charge.
