UCAN's Legal Intern Program is currently accepting applications on a running basis. UCAN is also seeking an experienced web design volunteer which may develop into a paid contractual position.

1. Water Advocacy Project Manager

Practice Area
Public Interest, Water Utilities

Position
Full-time manager of UCAN's advocacy on water and sewer practices and rates for the City of San Diego

Job Description
UCAN is seeking individuals experienced in municipal water utility management. UCAN is a
non-profit utility watchdog protecting San Diego consumers. UCAN was recently awarded the opportunity to place inserts in the bills of the City of San Diego water/sewer utility for the purposes of raising funds for the oversight of the City's water utility management and practices.

Qualifications
Background in water utility operations and management. Also experience in management.

Salary
Up to $70,000 annually, based upon experience. Includes medical.

2. Legal Intern Program

Position
Spring or Summer 2008 Law Clerk

Job Description
UCAN is seeking individuals interested in Telecommunications, Technology/IP law, Consumer law, Utility law and litigation. UCAN is a non-profit utility watchdog protecting consumers from abusive practices in the areas of energy, gasoline, telecommunications, water, and other areas. Students with an interest in Public Interest and Intellectual Property law are sought in particular for work on a new UCAN project.

Qualifications
2Ls or 3Ls as of September 2007 are eligible; Interest in Consumer law and Technology; strong writing and organizational skills.

Salary
Volunteer or work study; Also check with your law school's Pro Bono Program to see if credit available.

Web Design Volunteer

UCAN seeks someone with web design experience, particularly CSS design experience and experience with the open source Content Management System Drupal, to assist in website design, layout, graphic design and overall appearance of the UCAN.org website as well as other UCAN websites in development. This position could become a part time , contractual paid position depending on experience. Email jobs [at] ucan [dot] org with your resume and examples of your web design work. Candidates from San Diego and California are preferred, but you may apply from anywhere.
