Air powered car; suggestions to lower oil prices

Here are a couple of links related to reducing dependency on oil. One is an air-powered car and the other
offers solutions to lowering oil prices:

I use half the amount of gas

I use half the amount of gas I used to... I started riding my bike to work 3 days a week.... now I only have to fill up once every 2 weeks instead of every week. I have also cut way back on driving. I don't go somewhere 2 hours away unless I really need to and I combine trips.

Fuel price survey

The survey response I was looking for isn't posted. How about "Cut back on driving". I have cut back on my driving by combining trips, riding my bike to do errands, parking centrally and walking between adjoining shpping centers (somethimes saving time in the process as well!), and using public tramspotation and/or carpooling when I can. The other day I had to attend a morning meeting for my work at Balboa Park. I live and work in Encinitas (I know, lucky me!). One of my coworkers who lives farther south was attedning the same meeting. Instead of us both driving separately, I took the Coaster and he picked me up on his way to the meeting up at the Old Town Station. Then I rode back with him to work. All it takes is a little pre-planning and thinking outside the box.

oil prices

Wake up America! The oil companies are making billions while the average citizen in the US. is drowing in debt. Who do you think is responsible for letting the oil companies get away with making those billions? Look into the pockets of some of our elected officials! They are the ones to blame for letting these oil companies get away with their greed. If no one is there to stop them and they are not punished for their greed why are they going to stop? They will continue to choke the life out of the economy. We as a society are fueling their greed by driving needlessly and using fuel guzzling SUV's. I counted the number of SUV's and trucks on the highway yesterday and they numbered 3 out of 5 on the road! If they are the ones complaing about the price of gas they need to wake up! These are the people that the oil companies are hoping for!

Whos responsible

Who is responsible for the oil companies making billions.

Look in a mirror. your demand for oil, your huge vehicles, you keep electing the same morons over and over again with no energy policy.

All you want is lower prices, but that will never happen. Take action and demand better fuel economy better cars, nuclear, wind, solar, eetc.

If not, the US is the next third world country..

I can't wait!!!

Don't believe everything you hear.

"IVD~ As for those massive oil profits, Democrats want to slap Big Oil with a "windfall profits tax." In fact, since 2002 the U.S. oil and natural gas industry has earned about 8.1 cents per dollar of sales -- exactly the same as all U.S. manufacturing, excluding autos. Not much of a windfall."

"IVD~ One of the oil business's dirty secrets is that only 6% of all reserves are controlled by investor-owned oil companies such as those demonized by Congress. The rest are controlled by governments, one way or another. And 11 of the 15 largest oil companies are government-owned. Government is the problem, not "Big Oil.""

Spread the word! And buy an '09 Prius, 100mpg.
Sincerely, Chris in FL.

A hit to the middle and low income

The bottom line is the high cost of gas is a major player in our falling economy. The largest consumer in our economy is the middle class and when a large portion of there money is going to the gas pump it slows the economy resulting in the cost of goods to sky rocket because big business is not going to take profit loss. The poor can not afford to buy goods and the middle class is sinking fast. WE DON'T NEED A LOUSY STIMULUS PACKAGE THAT WILL BOOST THE ECONOMY FOR A SHORT TIME WE NEED FAIR GAS PRICES THAT WILL KEEP THE ECONOMY GOING. WAKE UP BUSH!!

Thoughts on the economy.

"Question: Can you explain – in simple “layman’s” terms – the effect of Japan’s low interest “carry trade” on the U.S. stock market? Is this practice inflating the value of securities in foreign markets? What are the risks? How is it affecting the euro?"

"Answer: E.M.S.: Europe lends money for more than 5% interest. So does the USA now although the financiers are getting worried about this and are egging on the Fed to lower rates back down to 1%. This is pure insanity. Japan has near zero inflation because they have decided to utterly destroy the purchasing power of the people in Japan who are living worse and worse off if they are below the top 20%. Many are now homeless. It is pathetic.

The world's #2 economic power that holds the world's #2 FOREX reserves can't give pay raises to anyone earning below $10 an hour because this will 'cause inflation' and so they get to live on the street and starve. Great. Anyone can eliminate inflation by enslaving the workers. Then they get cut out of the profits entirely and can't buy things and thus, can't cause inflation!

This is the plan being readied for us! We get to live in shanties while the rich live in palaces. And we won't buy anything while they have a zillion servants earning practically nothing. Sort of like England, circa 1914.

Bush and his gangsters hosted the Queen of England who loves him because he is making her very rich via Carlyle. And the royals of England didn't care if they starved their subjects who lived like savages under the rule of the royals. We are sliding backwards, not moving forwards here."

gas prices DOUBLED in 2 years!!

We bought our home in a semi-rural area in 2006 (gas prices were then at $1.89 a gallon) they are now at $3.69 a gallon! There is NO WAY this a related to a shortage of oil! This has forced us to try and sell our home to move closer to the city (we live 30 miles from work) and have been unable to sell it in over 14 months on the market!
Middle to lower income families are being hit the HARDEST in this- as many of these families are like us-one income.

Thoughts of things like foreclosure-if we can't sell our home and questions of should we put gas on our credit card are almost daily/weekly thoughts! We have never had such serious financial issues (as we have always tried to stay out of serious debt=avoid credit cards).

I'm sure there are LOTS of FAMILIES just like us facing these same situations and the answers sure are few and far between it seems.

Guess you didn't plan

It was your choice to live 30 miles from work. There were tons of reports about the price of oil going up. Americans don't listen. Compared to the rest of the world, our gas is cheap. $9+ in The Netherlands.

We have a piss poor mass transit system, no energy policy and Americans who want to blame everyone except themselves for the problem.

Touche'

Not only that, let's also not forget how naive everyone is being about the current gas pinch. I hear people everyday talking about how the price will come down because people will just stop buying it. We haven't seen that. Its not that Americans are hopeful that gas will come down, they actually believe its going to. And its increasingly evident in the fact that Chevy and Ford are still selling their cars which are the least economic in the industry. Meanwhile Toyota and Honda continue to utilize improved eletric systems, bettering their already amazing economy. And what are Americans still buying? Fords and Chevys. Gas is not going back down people.

Higher gas prices are an opportunity

I see this as a good thing - to wake up america... to both cut back on consumption of non-renewable power sources, and to develop and maximize the efficiency of renewable sources (ie solar/wind/thermal/hydroelectric power and even bio-fuels). I am considering switching to solar to power the air conditioners in my house... and I've already moved from a big old gas guzzling truck to a scooter (80 miles per gallon) to get to work every day. So many more things I can do though! It is fun figuring them all out.

America needs to cut the umbilical cord to our oil dependence! If everyone does their part to be responsible, then we won't have a huge problem.

Renewable thoughts.

Absolutely,
There are at least ten electric commuter vehicles for less than $20,000 now. Roomier, sportier, and more fuel efficient, the 2009 Toyota Prius is reportedly getting a whopping 106mpg already on the streets of Japan. The US as well as Japan have also built fully electric sports cars that greatly out perform exotic gasoline models. An electric engine to date is capable of 300miles between charges, 220+ mph top speed, and 0-60 in under 3 seconds! The bad news: these electrics cost $100k and up, and do not have A/C!

On another note, I believe MIT has improved upon turbine technology powered by hydrogen. The size of a quarter, and a deck of cards with the fuel tank.

"Q: What sort of performance should we expect from the engine?
A: The best metric is energy per unit weight, about 120-150 w-hr/kg for current commercial Li-ion rechargeable batteries. We expect that 500-700 whr/kg can be accomplished in the near term, rising to 1200-1500 whr/kg in the longer term (for the engine and its fuel supply)." ~Alan Epstein

I dont blame oil countries,

I dont blame oil countries, I blame the US. Why is it that when the US had more allies in the Mid East the price of oil was $0.88 a gallon. Now that there is war, the price has gone up and up!! The US Gov obviously is deliberately keeping the price of oil HIGH so that we can suffer while our hard earned money goes to wherever the Gov thinks it should (Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, etc.). This is rediculous!

Furthermore, is this lame stimulus payment we are supposed to get supposed to help us in any way?? I am already is debt from just day-to-day expenses.. I dont over indulge on anything yet I can't seem to keep my head up above the water!

A symetrical cheesedoodle!

I think a gallon in Argentina is $0.18. Than I see in the news, the U.S. military under scrutiny for invading Argentine airspace. Gee, you don't think they were spying on drilling coordinances do you? LOL Nothing surprises me anymore.

Besides that. If we are heading for another Great Depression, it won't be grandma's gold broach the government will want to ban, rather it will likely be the "men in black" syphoning your gas tank to keep their Hummvee running to Mexico!

Take Care, Sincerely Chris in FL.

Gas and the Government

I support any protest against the rising gas prices..Our Government is playing us for fools..On the news they say that Iraq has $30 billion dollars that they are not using towards their country..A Iraq official even stated why should they when the Americans are paying for it all..They have plenty of oil ( I know I am a war vet I was there) They are also raising the price of oil to us...
I know we can't get the president to stop the war but if we are going to be forced to fight for Iraq then Iraq should be made to supply our military with all the oil so that we as tax payers and workers do not have to pay the millions of dollars of oil that is being spent every month to fight...Then they will not have to continue to make the American people go broke at the gas pumps to support a war that was going on inside Iraq long before we ever got there...

Gas Prices

Is there anyone on your staff who could provide a reason why the President hasn't released supply from the strategic reserve to bring down prices? Furthermore, why would President Bush have continued to purchase reserve supplies at top dollar? It seems as though the U.S. is deliberately keeping prices up so as not to anger the Mideast players.

Will not make a difference

Because this will not affect price.

Another American Idiot!

GAS

I HOPE WHOEVER IS KEEPING THE GAS PRICES SO HIGH, WILL DROWN IN THERE OIL. WHILE PEOPLE HERE SUFFERS FOR THERE GREED. PEOPLE HERE HAS TO EAT, GET TO WORK, GET TO SCHOOL. PAY BILL. IM DIVORCED AND ON SOCIAL SERCUITY, MY GREANDAUGHTER HAD TO QUITE SCHOOL, BECAUCE I DONT HAVE MONEY FOR GAS TO TAKE AND BRING HER BACK EVERY DAY. ITS ALL ABOUT THE RICH GETS RICHER. WELL THE OLD SAYING IS " WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND". IM HOPING THERE TURN COMES VERY SOON. LET THEM SUFFER WITH THE REST OF US. " DONATE ARE YOU KIDDING."

I'm so broke I can't even pay attention

Fuel costs have driven me to the brink. I don't know what to do next. Four airlines bankrupt, food costs up, rent is up, and my bank balance is down :(

What to do

Dont fly, eat less, live in a smaller place or move and quit spending your money on cheaply made chinese crap.
