Neighborhood Share A Ride - Start one in our your neighborhood!
My idea is to start a local share-a-ride in one's own neighborhood or community. Example:
There must be at least 250 - 500 families in my neighborhood alone out here in East County; I thought if we even got 5 out of those 200+ families together to originate their trip from their own neighborhood (as residents in our neighborhoods do anyway every workday) that would cut down on 4 roundtrips for each of those 5 families that participates.
I know there are more logistics to work out and many more details but if starting with one community and then another and another that would:
1) immediately save money on gas not to mention wear and tear and mileage
2) take more cars off the road, lessen congestion, and cut back on fuel demand
3) perhaps start to make a scratch into the immense profits the gas companies are gorging themselves on my more and more cars using shared rides.
4) Fosters community involvement and neighborly activism
5) Advantage over Caltrans Car Pool Program is that, this idea focus on solely your neighborhood unifying those who live together for the short term purpose of saving on high gas prices!
Im all for a Gas Flu Day / Sick Out! We need to get the word more out there! Media exposure! TV Newspaper! Radio!
We are sick of gas prices except for those who most immediately benefit from higher prices and those who dont have to pay out their own pocket i.e. corporate gas and government officials.
