Local toll charges for dial-up service
Although you may choose an internet dial-up phone number that is in your same area code this does not mean that you are making a free local call. The three digit prefix after your area code determines if the call will be free on a local toll call. All internet providers tell you to verify that the number you choose is not a local toll call. This was a much bigger problem with AOL subscribers. Now most people have DSL or another high speed internet service that does not use regular phone numbers. AT&T will tell you we just connect your calls, we don't select the number you call. Take the partial credit and verify your dial-up number.
