Why UCAN is unlike any other regional consumer group in America.

Founded by concerned San Diego citizens in 1983, UCAN is the Utility Consumers' Action Network.

Together, we stand for your right to be treated fairly by the big utilities, big energy, big phone, big media, and big government.

Because we are non-profit and beholden to no-one, we are able to say and do things that few other groups would even attempt. This includes telling the truth about what's really going on at Sempra, AT&T, Cingular, the City Water Department, the oil industry, and the major credit bureaus and banks.

Over the years, UCAN has prevented billions of dollars in proposed rate hikes by SDG&E and Sempra Energy. We have repeatedly exposed corrupt politicians and public officials, and were the first Web site in the nation to track local gasoline prices at our gas project at www.fueltracker.com to monitor and expose price gouging by Big Oil.

UCAN has aggressively fought bad customer service, deceptive sales pitches, and unfair contracts by mobile phone companies with record-setting legal actions that have returned millions of dollars to the victims of SBC, AT&T, Cingular, and other major phone companies.

In addition, UCAN's privacy project at www.privacyrights.org is dedicated to educating, exposing, and informing consumers about poor information handling practices by major corporations, credit bureaus, banks, and the U.S. government.

If you are a member and need help with a wrongful mobile phone bill or other utility dispute, UCAN's veteran consumer adocates will personally intervene on your behalf. UCAN's Fraud Squad is also trained to give you hands on help and advice for more than 200 of the most common consumer gripes. We are here to protect you: No other consumer group in America intervenes as agressively as UCAN on behalf of its members.

When you join UCAN, you are backed by a network of 30,000 other members and the full resources of our Fraud Squad Consumer Helpline. It is this network of concerned citizens that has, over the years, contributed to many of our most successful legal actions.

Best of all, when you call UCAN, a real person will answer the phone. We think it is the least we can do for the network of members like you that make our work possible. Won't you join us?
