Historians say that Emperor Nero fiddled while Rome burned. This video shows Vice President Dick Cheney taking a power nap while President George W. Bush laments the Federal Government's inability to control the wind.
High Santa Ana winds* have swept much of Southern California with firestorms. More than 500,000 citizens have been forced to evacuate their homes. The forced evacuations are probably the largest in U.S. history, according to the San Jose Mercury news. Get the video here.
* Santa Ana winds are very hot. Contrary to popular belief, these hot winds are not named after the infamous Mexican politician Santa Anna, who suspended the Mexican constitution, unsuccessfully tried to thwart a rebellion through military action, disbanded Congress, and worked to concentrate executive power in the central government. Nor are they named after George Santayana, who noted that history repeats itself.
