AT&T Misleads Consumers about 4G Access on Motorola Atrix 4G
Before we address the dark little secret, let's make one thing perfectly clear. AT&T's 4G Network is not 4G. That is not the concern here because technically speaking there is not a 4G network currently available in the US. Not Sprint's network, not Verizon's Network, not T-Mobile networks. All of them are slightly faster than their original 3G speeds, but do not meet the ITU (the organization that gets to make the decision) established standard for 4G service.
Not content to merely mislead customers like the other carriers, AT&T goes one step further. In its very name, AT&T suggests the Atrix will operate on its 4G network. That the customer will receive 4G speeds. The problem? Soon after the Motorola Atrix was released came reports that AT&T was throttling upload speeds, capping the speed at around 300Kbps. AT&T adamantly denies throttling its speed. But catch this non-denial denial; in a response to a consumer's BBB complaint, AT&T states that it has not enabled the ability of the Atrix to access its 4G upload network. AT&T says it is testing its network and will at some point in the future. Could be tomorrow, could be in 5 years. But at some undetermined time AT&T will enable the promised 4G feature.
So Buyer Beware! AT&T has disabled the key feature for which the 4GAtrix is being advertised: 4G speed. This is somewhat reminiscent of the way the wireless carriers used to disable Wi-Fi on its mobile devices until after many years they determined it would be to their benefits to offload data traffic. But even those carriers didn't promote the WiFi feature of their phone after disabling them. AT&T takes misleading customers to a whole new level. AT&T needs to do the right thing and stop advertising the Atrix has 4G speed until its customers can enjoy 4G upload speeds. Honesty goes a long way.
UCAN wants to know. Have you purchased the Motorola Atrix? Is it living up to your expectations? Are the upload speeds significantly slower than you expected? Are you thinking of returning the phone?

atrix "4g"
Hey, I bought the atrix on launch day and have been suffering with the same issue everyone else is with the laughable "4g" speeds. I am definitely going to bring my atrix back for a refund because I was under the impression I was buying a super fast 4g device, but in all reality I got a phone, at best, that gets EDGE data speeds. I will also demand out of my contract because ATT blatantly lied to all of us and the cannot be trusted any longer. There really should be some form of legal action taken against ATT for this shameful way the mislead their own customers. They basically told us it was a "4g" device, then when everyone caught on how horrible the data speeds were they said,"we'll turn that on in the future." WOW!!!
