San Diego Water Authority to vote on water rate increases

Just as the news comes that much of the world can expect water problems - according to a report on the impacts of global climate change, the county water authority meets to approve rate hikes of more than 12 percent (depending on category) for the next fiscal year.

MWD's 19.7 percent water rate hike, announced in April, has to be sopped up. The staff recommendations will go to the board on June 25 - and we'll try to figure out before then what that means for our local water departments and water bills.

Water access managment and rate hikes

Our water bill was $87 last year this time, this year it is $435. We reduced our consumption by 25% this year over last... Our sewer bill is about to go up from $63 to $173 based on winter use, which I did not realize - stupid I guess!. OK, water is scarce.... largely due to chaos in governments and authorities, and lack of planning - how long have we heard of water shortages as Southern California booms?? but where is the money going! We cannot reduce our usage enough to get anywhere close to what paid last year... So tax me (now that is real fix for government spending).

Where is the money going??? I hope to bail out something else that I am about to get taxed for.

What can I do??

Water is just the beginning of the cost

I looked at my water bill the other day and was astounded at how high it is. So I looked closer rather than just pay the thing. Low and behold, water was a mere $30 or so dollars. Then came all the other charges. The bill is in the $200 range. So why are all these other things so expensive and what increases are we going to see next? The water isn't the half of it. Sewer and Maintenance seem to be more expensive, but how do they figure that. How can they bring in X amount of water and we're not even letting our water run down the gutter, but the sewer charges are ridiculous.
