Major European study to track health impact of mobile phones

A new, in-depth study of the possible link between mobile phone use and your health has been announced in Europe. The Independent, a British newspaper, reports that The Cohort Study on Mobile Communications (COSMOS) will track a quarter of a million people in five European countries for up to 30 years.

Previous studies have found no link between cellphone use and health problems, according to the article, but Professor Paul Elliott of the School of Public Health at London's Imperial College said this study "will be looking at long-term use of 10 to 30 years"- a monitoring period long enough for diseases to develop.

"Research to date has necessarily mainly focused on use in the short term, less than 10 years," said Professor Elliott.

About 5 billion mobile phones are in use worldwide, according to  The Independent.
