Skype Pro customers who paid $36 for one year of "unlimited" service charged additional $3 a month and limited to 3000 minutes

Skype Pro Customers who signed up for 12 months of unlimited service at $36 seem to be running into some hidden gotchas with Skype. Apparently, in January, Skype began charging customers who already paid $36 in advance an extra $3 per month in addition to the $36 charge without explanation. In addition, customers who purchased unlimited minutes now have a 3000 "fair use" limit to which they didn't agree. Lastly, there are reports that Skype Credit offered with purchases is not being offered as well. Share your story about problems with Skype below.

So here's a recap

1. Some customers who paid the $36 for 12 months in advance, appear to have errantly charged $3 / month despite having already paid $36 for the year.
2. A 3000 minute per month limit was implemented(perhaps in January) as to all customers despite customers purchasing an unlimited plan.
3. The skype credit that supposedly comes with SkypePro(now $12) appears to not have been honored.

they should be honest

THEY NEED TO REOVE THE ADDS "UNLIMITED" AND BE REPLACED FOR 6 HRS 10000 MINUTES /MONTH FOR $$ THATS WHAT THEY NEED TO SHOW THEY LIE, IT IS A BIG LIE JUST TO GET CUSTOMERS. SHOLD BE THE LOW CHANGE TO STOP THE SCAM AND FORCE THEM TO DO WHAT THEY SAY IN THE ADD OR FORCE THEM TO CHANGE WHAT THEY ARE SHOW IN THE ADDS .

Fair Usage Policy

Yea so like I've been wondering how their counter for their fair usage policy works, since recently its been telling me im over the 6 hrs daily.
Bit off topic I know but bear with me. So I sat and counted the hours im spending talking (as logged by their program not by me) and no matter which way I cut it timezone wise I cant see how i've gone over my limit, yet obviously they're charging into the small surplus i keep for emergencies.
So yea, any help would be appreciated.

What can we do about it?

I'm happy to stumble across this site -- All the problems described here pertain to me as well: automatic $3/month charges; dwindling credit balance despite zero usage; poor customer service ... Worst of all, they say they won't give me a refund for my unused credit because it's been over 14 days since I made my subscription (subscription started almost two years ago) "I CHECKED THE TOS AND COULDN'T FIND THAT DISCLAIMER ANYWHERE!?!" [http://www.skype.com/legal/terms/voip/ AUG. 2009)

One other thing really bugs me -- Is their Terms of Service legally binding??? I'm no lawyer, but my intuition tells me that Skype is abusing the legal rights of consumers in such areas as:
- making changes routinely to their TOS and then claiming that it is legally-binding even though they don't require themselves to notify subscribers of those changes. (The only way to get out of their TOS is to cancel your subscription if you don't agree with it, but you must do so within 30 days of the changes to come into effect.)
- "Skype reserves the right to deny repetitive refund requests (more than once for any given type of payable Products). " WTF?!? That explains why they've been ignoring our emails!
- "21.2 Partial Invalidity: If any provision of these Terms of Service, or any part of a provision, is found by any court or administrative body of competent jurisdiction to be illegal, invalid or unenforceable, and the provision (or part-provision) in question is not of a fundamental nature to the Terms of Service as a whole, the legality, validity or enforceability of the remainder of the Terms of Service (including the remainder of the term which contains the relevant provision) shall not be affected." Right ... just toss the bad apples, even though the entire barrel is bad.

These are just some of the points I could make in my limited time here, but does this bother anyone else?

So the question is "What can we do about it?" or "How can we make a stand?"

Can we make a petition for a class action suit? Are there any lawyers willing to help us for the sake of justice and not for the money? Can someone help?

I hate everything that businesses like Skype stand for -- The people there hide behind anonymity and act inhumanely, indifferent and greedy.

If anyone knows a course of action, please let me know at fcarbf@aol.com

Skype subscription

On May 6th 2009, I purchased an unlimited US/Canada Skype account. Now suddenly when I try to place a call I get a message advising me that I need Skype credit to call this number. Trying to contact Skype is somewhat akin to pulling chickens teeth. Checking my account, it tells me that I have a $0.00 balance and an unlimited account and that my next payment is due May 3rd 2010. I'd be interested if anyone else has encountered this problem. I've had two of my friends download and install Skype, thinking that it was a really great program, but evidently I was mistaken. What did P. T. Barnum say??? I think we all know the answer.......

Skype is totallly nonresponsive to any problems

I use Skype in Panama where lately it hasn't been working very well. A lot of people here feel really ripped off...like they are paying for these skype out calls and half the time the other person can't hear them, or they are charged for more time than they actually use. But, there seems to be no way to let Skype know about it. Yes, there's a space on their website where you can report a problem, but they respond to the issue only about 30% of the time, and always with a formulaic answer with troubleshooting tips that have nothing to do with the problem you actually wrote in about. If you then respond to their email you never hear back...so how can consumers report problems to this company? Why is it so easy for them to charge our credit cards but so difficult for us to let them know they have done so in error?
I'm amazed that a communications company is so hard to reach.
Any suggestions on ways to get Skype to listen?

Crap

Skype Pro

The main reason they shutdowned the Skype Pro feature is for $$$ purposes. They were offering way too much for the money they we're charging and not they want it back.

It's all about a scam because you cannot put back 36$ on your account only 14 or 35$ options are available and there is no way you can find any information over their web site or the first few pages of any search engines.

They are becoming like Microsoft, shamefull and rip the peoples money off offering different (which comes to the same) for more ...

Customer Service and Skype's lack of commitment

End of last year and things got technical with my account. Skype looked into it and said they would take care of things, they owed me about US$75. I replied to that 3 times and said sure go ahead.

That was last year. While theyve been doing nothing, my subs have been running out so now not only do they have the $75 they owe me, I also cannot renew my subscriptions and they wont reply to that issue either, So I no longer have my umlimited world subscriptions and I cannot renew them, and Skype are not answering with any action.

Its bloody appalling has anyone else had these issues?

unfortunately Skype made the

unfortunately Skype made the worst step for their business with the new limitations i don't see a reason to pay for their services anymore to get cut off after six hours and since the only reason i was handling their low quality and line drops all the time was because it came with the unlimited calling service so now even if i switch to another VOIP provider that is more reliable and better quality that may cost me more it will actually cost me less with skype new changes .

more cheating from skype

Skype now sets 6 hours/24-hour-period limit for "Unlimited" plans.

If you exceeds 6 hours in 24 hour period, your "Unlimited" subscription be blocked until the next calendar month. Technically, this may limit your monthly "Unlimited" usage to 6 hours only.

The 6 hour cap is not in Official skype Fair Usage Policy.

Another somewhat related skype trap. Skype fine prints say customers request cancellation and refund any time. The fact, if you found out "Unlimited" works for you only for 6 hours, and you follow instructions to cancel the subscription, you find out your cancellation only means for after the current active subscription, i.e., you can cancel future transactions, therefore not getting refund for you paid.

Skype is a nice service.

i have used skype its a nice services now my clients can reach me anytime.

Happened to me

Well I thought unlimited was really unlimited and also saw those $3 monthly charges even though I am paid for a year already. Because I don't know which number to call to talk to someone from Skype, I just gave up on Skype altogether and now using Onesuite.com services (both phone card and voip)

Skype has million users and thousands of paid subscribers but I am not sure how come there's still no live support to talk to.

Skype has a blog post in response to these issues

So Skype has a blog post acknowledging the problem, but stating that while user's accounts do incorrectly list a $3 a month charge, user accounts will NOT be debited. Let us know if you have seen a debit to your account

http://heartbeat.skype.com/2008/01/some_skype_pro_subscribers_see.html

Also Skype has changed their "Fair Usage" policy just in the last few weeks, from 3000 minutes to 10,000 minutes.

US

http://www.skype.com/legal/terms/fair_usage/

International (they don't set it in stone but suggest 10,000 as a possible limit where they can either 1. terminate the customer or begin charging per minute)
