4G in San Diego???

With the introduction of the EVO 4G, Sprint customers got the first taste of higher-speed mobile data provided by a deliciously fast 4G connection. Sadly, this taste was more of an amuse bouche, in that only certain markets had 4G access. Well, cry no longer, San Diegans, because you will be getting your 4G soon enough...if everything goes according to plan.

A faithful, loyal, and sharp dressed UCAN member brought to our attention a Notice of Application he received. He thought nothing of it, until he saw the project name "Clearwire - Pennsylvania Conditional Use Permit." For those of you unfamiliar with Clearwire, it is a company working with Sprint to deploy 4G all across the nation. Curious, UCAN called the City project manager for more information.

Turns out that Sprint and Clearwire are teaming up to put 4G access points all over San Diego. Most access points are going to be lcoated at existing Sprint cell sites. It sounds like Sprint and Clearwire are trying to work as quickly as possible, with a deployment expected in 2011. However, this could be mid-2011, late-2011, or even later, depending on how smoothly everything falls together.

Thoughts on bringing a faster data connection to San Diego? Leave us a note in the comments.

How is it that just anybody

How is it that just anybody can write a blog and get as popular as this? Its not like youve said anything incredibly impressive –more like youve painted a pretty picture over an issue that you know nothing about! I dont want to sound mean, here. But do you really think that you can get away with adding some pretty pictures and not really say anything?

Well looking at what was said

Well looking at what was said in this article they will most likely not get the iPhone until you can have talk over LTE. This setup would still require a phone to have both LTE and CDMA chips in it and is not a great solution, Verizon is rushing into this too fast and I can see some major problems for them on the horizon, are they going to try and jam both GSM (LTE) chips and CDMA chips in their phones, sounds crazy to me and sounds like a huge technical problem that they need to overcome.
