Complaints Against Cox Cable: Fighting Cable Rates

Yo, Adrian! Cox just raised rates by 20%?  Are you kidding me?  Let me at 'em.............

Well, here are your gloves, Rocky!  Sure enough, on March 16, 2010, Cox Communications increased the rate for limited basic tier cable service 20%, from 14.99 to 17.99.

Cox Communication's increase to the limited basic tier cable service applies to all Cox cable subscribers who reside south of the San Diego River and specific areas of North County, including, Oceanside, Cardiff, Bonsall and Pine Valley.

Because the FCC decided in its very finite wisdom that San Diego is a "competitive" market, it lifted the rate cap on basic tier cable services.  So Cox is not techically breaking any law.   However, the FCC did preserve one protection.  It allows cable subscribers to lodge a complaint with their LFA (local franchising authority), which is fancy regulatory speak for the city in which they reside.  If a city gets a complaint, it can, in turn, lodge a challenge with the FCC about the reasonableness of the rate increase.  Then, the FCC will rule whether the rate increase is fair.

So, all of you Rockys out there, you've got 90 days from March 16, 2010 (effective date of rate increase) to file a complaint. This seems to be the most effective option in battling those greedy folk at Cox Communications who are imposing a 20% increase in the midst of the Great Recession.

Your basis for your complaint:

Cox Communication's 20% increase, from 14.99 to 17.99, is a significant rate change. It is unreasonable to pass the costs on to the cable subscribers without a showing that Cox's content costs have increased by 20%. By filing your complaint, your LFA will be able to file a complaint with the FCC in hopes of compelling Cox Communication to demonstrate that its costs of purchasing basic tier content has really risen by 20%.

The time of charging

The time of charging ridiculous premiums for cable will soon commence anyway. Whichever illustrious cable company that "Waste of time" works for will very soon go the way as such companies as Blockbuster, or Tower Records! Better start selling that company stock, dumbass!
Its this little thing called the internet! With sites like, Joost, Hula, and even CBS.com, making TV free for everyone. How long before the only section at Cox making any money is the internet side? Cable companies will be featured on the Discovery channel..along with all the other Dinosaurs who once roamed the earth!

If you think you're so

If you think you're so intelligent...I'm suprised you're wasting your time writing back, and calling people "whinny bitches". Shouldn't you be filming your Utube spot on "How To Take In the Ass From Cable Companies". That, id pay $ to watch!

A waste of time, you can

A waste of time, you can complain all you want but you will pay in the end. Cable is a business, nobody is forcing you to watch TV. I guess we should also protest the price of bread going up too ha ha ha. Most people can afford premium rates, whinny bitches complain, good luck with that protest, it's only going to raise the prices more. The more you complain the more it's gonna hurt LOL
