Caller ID Scam Using Fake Phone Numbers to "Spoof"

ucansue's picture

There are Internet sites like www.SpoofCard.com or www.itellas.com where anyone can buy a prepaid calling card. This prepaid calling card has special features to hide the real identity of the caller. There are Federal regulations prohibiting the use of this technology by telemarketers and debt collectors. This service is also a stalker's dream and a victim's nightmare. Who else but telemarketers, debt collectors, scam artists trying to get your personal information and stalkers trying to harrass you, would need this type of service? Even though it is said that the service is for Law Enforcement, Skip Tracers, Private Investigators, etc., everyone knows that these professionals have other means to accomplish the same goal. The "Spoofer" is also able to change his/her voice to be a man or a woman and not sound like a recording. With a "Spoof" call, *69 (Call Return), *57 (Call Trace), and Anonymous Call features to typically provide you with information, do not work.

The people or companies using this service are able to send any number to your Caller ID. As a victim of identity theft, I received calls where total strangers pretended to be someone else and were demanding my date of birth, social security number, current and previous addresses and my mother's maiden name. One call came from a 512 area code and turned out to be the Secretary of State Comtroller Office for Texas to gather information for taxes. There is no state tax in Texas! Another call was a law firm in Tampa, Florida calling to collect debts on three credit cards. Again, personal information was requested including my bank account number. As a victim of ID theft, I did not take the threat of a major lawsuit or the threat of taking my home lightly. These scam artists fortunately said I owed on 3 cards that I had never used or ordered and that were already removed from my credit history as part of the ID theft.

The attempt to personally violate others is inexcusable and reflects the lowest form of human character. Now that a legislator was "spoofed", laws against the companies providing the service are being enacted. If problems had resulted for regular consumers like you and me, there is no telling how long this practice would have continued.

poor people

So my grandpa, who is 79 and the nicest men in the world, just came in and asked me why these women keep calling him mad and upset. So I ask him what he means and as he's telling me this women just called him yelling at him because someone from his number just yelled at her and also this isn’t the 1st woman that had called him. My grandpa was really upset so I called the woman to see what was going on. While on the phone I explain that my grandpa hadn't called her, after looking at the cell phone records, and that he didn’t understand why he was being yelled at.
The lady tells me that someone from his number called her over 20 times in the last 4 days and she kept pressing 2 to be taken off their list. So finally she pressed 1 to talk to someone who then yelled and threatened her. Upset she called the number back and got my grandpa so she thought he knew who had yelled at her.
I am reporting this to my states attorney general because this is a scam. FYI if you get one of these phone calls and it’s a company get the name of the company and where they are working out of then report them to the fraud department.

spoofing calls to harrass

I am now in the process of getting these spoofing calls for over a year and continuing. (these are all hang up calls). By a stroke of luck I found out the person who is calling me. A dumb mistake by the caller. Lucky for me. However, I now have the phone number of this person and want to call him and use a prank call on him but need some kind of a script to use. Does anyone know where I can get such a script or does someone on this site have a good one.

Husband going to lose his job

I need to know how to find out exactly where a spoofed text number came from this is urgent. my husband has a customer thru his business who is using printed texts from him saying he was sexually harrassing her. the problem is he really never did it. she is trying to get the company to give her, her stuff for free. he is going to lose his job if we dont get this figured out, and tmobile does not save archived texts or anything. please help. family of five and one on the way about to be homeless.

My wife just went through

My wife just went through this. Her employee was stalking and harassing her. He called the Corp office and stated it was her doing it. He stated he had txt msgs to prove it. Well he had also sent txt msgs to her. Any messages printed out from email meaning she sent the txt msg to her email and then printed it. These can be altered so it can't be used as proof. Also i think u can get copies from t mobile of date and time stamps of txt msgs sent from his phone as proof that he never sent one at the time she received one. Good luck cause my wife and I went through some shit cause of this guy.

How do find out who used your phone number in a prank

I got call from a friend today. He stated that my number was used in a phone prank against him. I had no idea about it. How can I find out who used my number. I feel violated. It is not my nature to prank anyone no less to stoop to level of a phone prank.

I TELESPOOFED TO MY MOTHER BUT SHE DESERVED IT!

My mother is the most evil minded woman you would ever want to meet, she's done a lot of bad things, but has managed to live until 83 years old. She's stolen wedding gifts and checks from my sister's wedding, and she stole from a mall; once putting her old shoes in a new box, luckily my sister paid for them, so mom also stole from her job, an art gallery and did some small time for it at a jail where my brother once worked! So she has been bad mouthing me to family and friends who I need in my life more than ever. She is jealous of me. She hates me, seriously, her las words before she passes will be "I HATE MY DAUGHTER!" I swear. So I tele-spoofed her dialing the local police department in her town, and putting it as the CALLER ID, and she must have called it back and been freaking. I only did it 2 times then stopped. It's too sad. I need my family and friends, but she took them away, so now I am satisfied with calling any number, usually a business and saying, "Hello, I'm calling about the Receptionist/Front office position online????" I stress "RECEPTIONIST/FRONT OFFICE. Usually the person is nervous and keeps coming back and asking you stuff. It's a laugh. But you can smell them sweating and freaking, and it hurts no body! LATER for ya!

Must have used a spoof card

This has happened to my home phone number. My brother has come to live with me and my family. His on and off again girlfriend didn't like the fact he was coming to live with me. The witch kept calling the house and my brother didn't want to talk to her or see her. So during the day she called the house phone with my name on it with our home phone# on the caller id and it was her. She was trying to get to my brother anyway she could. We had another phone call like that less than 30 minutes after the 1st one. I would think that was harrassment. Now she has sent mail to my house using her first name and my brothers last name on the return address. I am at my wits end with her. We are already going to small claims court because when my brother moved out of the apt she came to help (not invited) and took all of his expensive things to her house to store. I asked her about the items and was her storage climate controlled, of which, it wasn't. I told her to move everything she had of his to the moving van...It didn't happen. Now she is holding the items hostage. A pre-set meeting was made to pick the things up and she was hid in another apt and not there (got proof of that). Now she is making demands on giving him his stuff back. Asking him to come get the items when he doesn't have a drivers license, no insurance, no car tag. She won't give the items to anyone but him and I have a power of attorney. Geez this woman is looney tunes.

Text spoofing

What are the web sites for text spoofing? Im a victim of it and the petpetrader thinks im an idiot. I want to prove that I know about the scheme, but I need back up

reply to text spoofing

There are a lot of sites out there that you can send a text message to anyone on any service and put in any number or id you want. One that I use is http://www.text-send.com/. I use it because I do not have unlimited text sending capability like some people I know. Just Google SEND FREE TEXT MESSAGE - you'll get tons of hits.

I think somebody text themself, but input my #

This guy told my friend he got a nasty text from me. Since I know for sure I didnt send the text, is it poissible he text himself, but made it look like I did it by inputing my #? Is that spoofing, too?

Getting calls from people saying my phone just called them...

For the past 3 months I've been getting random phone calls from different numbers in the 313 area code (Michigan). I live in Minnesota, and don't know anyone nor have ever been to Michigan. I don't have a smart phone, just a normal cell phone. The few times that I have picked, which I'm too nervous to now, it has been different people saying that they've just received a missed call from my number. When I say their just mistaken, they usually hang up. Nobody is trying to get info from me. Most times I haven't even touched my phone for the past few hours. I'm wondering if lines had been crossed with someone else's, or is there some way that they are getting my info. Somebody please tell me what's going on, and is there any reason to worry about this?

I'm having the same problem.

I'm having the same problem. People call and ask why I called them, because my number was on their caller ID, but I never called them! Has anybody had any luck in figuring this out?? I assume somebody is calling people online somehow, and typing in my number, but who knows?

spoofing calls to harrass

Just type in your search engine the word "spoofing" and you will get tons of information of what is going on with your phone.

This whole thing is messed

This whole thing is messed up. Who seriously does this..? they must have alot of time to themeselves. Ive been getting calls from my friends cuz they think i have been calling them, & i got one txt. i found iut bout this spoofin thing cuz the txt said :spoofcard. com...If this persist what are some actions i shud take to end it?

The same thing has been

The same thing has been happening to us on our home phone...just got a call as I typed this and 2 minutes before hand. I haven't touched the phone except to answer it....and I also think it is happening on my cell phone too. The calls are coming from all over the country. It is just people saying that our number was on caller ID. I have now been explaining to them what is going on and that they can try to see what they can do on their end because our phone company says we can't do anything about it without changing our number and having an unlisted number. No one asks for info, but it is annoying cause we are not calling them....and they call at all hours of the night. Good luck!

PS...our phone company checked for crossed lines....all was fine.

Phone calls: message saying you called them

We receive phone almost almost on a daily basis from various cities and states--from people who we do not know. Sometimes, I have gone back to that number by checking who it was, or what the phone number was, then press "talk" on our phone to dial that number. When I have done that, I usually get a recording saying that number is no longer in service OR has been disconnected--something to that effect. One call we repeatedly received was from Arizona; I used that same method of calling that number back and saying I received a call from this number. The woman who answered said she did not make such a call; I believed her that she had not been making prank phone calls. I said that I did not dial her phone, but checked our caller ID, and made the call using that number that appeared on our caller ID--by just making a call the way I would normally do--by pressing "TALK." One thing I think that works, which was suggested to me was to hit the "pound" sign, that is, the button with a tic tack toe emblem on it. By doing that, I guess it confuses the computer system that makes these calls. Anyway, give it a try BEFORE you actually make connection to the call.
I don't know if this is anything to be concerned about or not, but with obama and his Marxist thugs as czars and in Congress, I would not put anything past them. Also, be informed about the Chem Trails from planes that fly daily and the poisons they produce; those chem trails do not dissipate quickly the way we are used to them disappearing; they linger on and after a few hours, clouds are formed. We do not often see regular Cumulus clouds near as often as we used to.

i can't be certain but it's

i can't be certain but it's most likely someone call spoofing you....anyone with an iphone or an android market phone can download a free app called 'fake caller id'....they can use it to call anyone from any number they choose...unless there are threats, harassment or scams there is nothing you can do....if that's all that's happening, they will tire of it and eventually stop.... I know one guy that drove his g/f crazy by pranking her so much...one time she was on her house phone and call beeped in from her cell phone, which was sitting right beside her....there are sooooo many things you can do....some good, some bad....the same guy reunited his uncle and cousin (father/daughter) whom haven't spoken in years....each had too much pride to call one another....he had the uncles phone to call her, she wasn't there, she dialed it back, he picked up, they lightly argued about the fact he did/didn't make call...that lead to a conversation, now they have made up and have a relationship after 12 years (he is 58, she is 32)....all b/c of caller spoof...crazy isn't it?

How did I get a call from just the number 1?

I have been called by just the number 1 twice. I thought that the number 1 is permanently assigned as voice mail. So how did I get a call from it? The first time I did not pick it up because I normally don't pick up calls that I don't know but it rose my curiosity that the number only showed up as 1. So the second time it called I picked up and there was someone flipping out. I did not even know what was going on. Is it a prank call? If it is a prank call what site would they use? I am confused because I never been called by the just the number 1 or heard of anyone being called by it. I even tried to call it back but didn't work because it was not a full number.

Call_Threat_Unavailable 1

I have had 3 calls on 8-16-11 from same middle eastern accented guy who started out doing survey on diabetics, the first call I listened and answered several questions until it became clear he appeared to be trying to sell me a monitor that you did not prick your finger with. Told him was not interested and to not waste his time. Two calls later same day, told him that I was not interested and again to STOP CALLING. This morning 8-17-11, same guy calls and when I again told him was not interested, he responded with these words: "What makes you think I am selling anything? I'm gonna come to your home and KILL YOU! I'm gonna roast you and eat you alive!" I calmly responded that I was reporting him and hung up.

All Calls came from UNAVAILABLE and number 1 on my caller ID too.

Fake caller Id

Yes, Lisa from Carnesville Georiga sent text messages from a website using my cell number without my permission. This is a form of identity theft. She also uses several cell phones from Verizon and or Tracfone to send messages for harassment purpose. She has a Sprint phone where she is a user on that account and uses it for harassment purpose. The "ACCOUNT OWNER" is solely responsible for any and all phones attached to their account.

Tracking These Calls

There is a way to combat this. We have the technology right now to find out who called with a private, spoofed or unknown phone number. It's 2011 and the technology is here.

Calls from Canada

In the last two weeks I have had several calls from different people in Canada asking if my land line number called their cell number. I told them no
each time but I still keep getting these calls from Alberta, Quebec and Calvary. My phone company assured me their records do not show any calls
from our land line number being made to these areas and we are not being charged. One woman told me her caller ID showed my number was coming from Vancouver. I really don't like that someone is using my number to harass others. Can anyone tell me what's going on? Thank you!

number swap

yesterday someone used my cell number to harass someone all day..when they used my number it interfered with my phone service all day so i wasnt able to dial text or get text or calls all day..If i would never went to sprint i wud have never found out. This young lady knew my name and number switched to her phone (cell) and starting texting her husband saying she was me and sayting very sexuall explicit things and implicating me and him to be in affair..Her husband is my mechanic and we all know each other so how do i deal with that????

what ever.

yea its a great idea until you have a person who is trying to kill you use that, to try to get you to answer your phone an to hack into your voicemail to delete evidence and the police wont do anything about it. So everyone out there that needs this stupid stuff get a life. If you dont want people to see that your calling them well maybe you should stop calling them. Ever think of that. Seriousely crazy people are able to use this no questions asked. I think technology has gone to far now. It does ruin peoples live's specaily when your prego an some dude is trying to kill you an your unborn so try an again. the greast thing ever where the hell are you from. You'll see one day when someone is out to get you. How cool it is now.

Spoof Dream

whatever...

all you against spoof.com can kiss it.
I happen to love their service...it's a dream come true.
Not everyone who uses it does it to harrass. Businesses use it to keep company info private.

It is seriously one of the best inventions in telecommunications. Seriously.

Caller ID Prank Almost Broke Us Up !!

So today my boyfriend get in the shower and I'm browsing internet on the phone just facebooking and whatnot. One of his cousins called the phone but I didn't answer because I knew he'd call him back once he got out of the shower, so I just silenced it because I didn't want to wake our baby. A few minutes later a different cousin calls, so I do the same thing. I got back to browsing the net when the same cousin who just called, calls again. Frustrated that I'm being interupted once again, aloud say "uggh!" And silenced the call again. My boyfirend at this time is getting out of the shower and asked who it was and I told him.

Moments later he calls his cousin who called twice. I couldn't hear what was being said but he was confused. while he's talking, he gets another call on the other line, from a number VERY similar to his cousins. Some random girl on that line says that some girl from OUR number repeatedly calling her asking for "key killa", which happens to be my boyfriends cousin, who I remind you is still one the other line. He assures her no one called her and hangs up on her. He talks back to his cousin and his cousin is saying that a girl keeps calling asking for him and hanging up. Meanwhile the girl who just called keeps calling but my boyfriend ignores it.

When my boyfriend gets off the phone he asks if I tryed to call his cousin and I told him I hadn't. He starts getting mad at me and calling me out of my name thinking I was trying to be slick and secretly call his cousin when I had not. As I said , I was one facebook the whole time. But he didn't believe me because the cousin and girl said it was from OUR phone number. We get in to a big argument because I had to defend my side of the story. I know that nowdays people can use any number to call so I told him somebody else is messing with them while using our number. He still doesnot believe me and goes to sleep. I finally get an idea and go onto the phone service website and look up our call history (which can't be chenged or edited in any way) and finally found the proof that I needed to prove to him I didn't make any outgoing calls but at this point he so deep in his sleep he won't wake up.

I absolutely HATE that they even make phone apps like this because it definitely could have ruinour whole relationship!

Spoof calls from my iphone???

My house got broken into, so like most people I called 911, immediately after hanging up 911 I got a call from a unknown caller, when I answered it was a man's scary voice with heavy breathing. A few days later I was calling my mother and the same voice and type a call came up on my phone. I looked at the phone to see if I was still connected to my mothers phone while the voice was on and my phone read that time was running and I was on the phone with my mother. The caller hung up and my mother called me back. When my mother answered I asked her if she just heard me on the phone and she said no, I just saw you called and I was calling you back. Then I received a call that appeared on my phone as a clients number but when I answered it was the same scarey man voice. After he hung up my client that the number belongs to called me, I asked her if she had just called and she said no. Then I was on the phone with my boyfriend and his call got dropped and he called me back but when I answered it was the same scarey man voice. Again he called me back and I asked him if he just had called and he said no I was trying but I couldn't get through. Is this what is called spoof calls??? If not what is this and how is it done? Could this be strictly random?

No legitimate need for a spoofed phone number?- How's this one?

I took a little umbrage at the author's belief that there's no legitimate need for number spoofing. Here's one: I made a purchase from an individual in another state, someone I know, and they didn't fulfill the order for an unknown reason. Whenever I email or call, there's no answer and no reply to any type of message. I'm the most likely caller from my area code, so I don't think I'd have much more success using another line. That leaves a fake number from his area code as the only way I can get through to him directly. There's no guarantee I'll get my order, but getting through to him is my only step other than doing nothing.

So am I nefarious now?

african calls.

So i have been getting these calls from a 505 area code number a lot lately and i cant call them back. The other night i got a voice mail and its this helpless girl saying,"hello? Hello? They gave me your number, so if you are listening to this message, will you please save me? If you answer." i am rally freaked out by this and i dont know if this is a prank or what.

message back asap please!

GF get phone call

Listen to this one the other night my phone was turned off well while my GF and i were on the couch she got a phone call from me.She answered it and all that was there was static. Now tell me how can my phone call someone when it was turned off.

Smart phone apps and web sites can do this.

Any I-Phone or Android phone has apps that can change your number on the caller ID to any number you choose. Until it's made illegal there's not much you can do.

I have been recieving

I have been recieving harrassing textmessages from an out of state number. They claim to live right down the road from me. They reply when i text back but when i call the number it will not connect the call at all. When i tried to look up the number all i could get was the state the number was from. Could this be they are using an iphone or something? How do i catch this person?

How to turn in your spoof caller

It is actually very simple to report someone who is spoofing calls, or at least the company/carrier allowing such spoofed calls to happen. Spoofed calls are nothing more than a bridged call from the real callers phone to your phone using the spoofing service or system. Every spoof service has billing numbers attached to their switch and even though a Caller ID (CID) can be spoofed, there is another call service used called Automatic number identification (ANI) which has the billing telephone number of the calling party recorded for that call. So this means that should you want to start an investigation through your local carrier, you can use a service called CALL TRACE to trap the information for a harassing call. This may be a pay service and needs to be set up prior to the call but it will provide the phone company and law enforcement information to investigate the call transaction. The spoof service will then be responsible for providing the real calling party phone number, and possibly even billing information, for who made the bridged call. It may take a little leg work but if you take action you are no longer a victim.

spoof

Very scary? U don't know what is scary. My son was drove to Mexico to visit some of his wife's family. Due to the situation out there, we were all very tense. His cell lost signal when he crossed th border but suddenly I got a text from his cell saying he was being held by thugs until I paid randsom and not to try calling the police because they were police, they would get back to me with what else to do. so I tried texting back but no answer. A while later I got a phone call from my son saying they had arrived OK. I as asked him about the situation but he had no idea what I was talking about, he had his cell with him. Someone knew he was going and tried to extort money from me. Someone close because for some reason they never tried to call back with instructions. Called the cops but they could not do anything. The day he got back he showed me he had just received the text I had sent him days ago so I know his cell was not working when the text was sent to my phone. Now that is scary.

That just happened to me, not

That just happened to me, not as scary, but the cell phone ghosting. Have you figured anything out?

I think I'm being stalked

I met this 41 yr old guy at a bar almost 2 weeks ago and he tried kissing me that night. I pushed him away and he didn't seem too happy about it. Well, I kept going back there to hang out with my friends and he would buy me my drinks and he would pay for my ride home. He didn't know my address though, I'd tell the cab driver once I was already in the car. Anyway, he keeps asking me out to dinner and I keep saying no. He asked me to the Knick's game and I said no. I told him I'm not interested in a relationship. I'm only 24. He's 41. He said ok but he still hasn't let up. He texts me a lot asking me to go there alone which I will NOT do. He wanted me to help him make a facebook meanwhile I found out he already had one. I looked up his name on www.criminalsearches.com and he was arrested on 4 counts of theft/robbery and one for Violence. I don't know the full details but I'm looking into it with a cop friend of mine. He sent me nasty pics of himself. Now I'm getting out of State phone calls and I don't know anyone from these places. If the father of my kids pick up the phone they don't say anything, they just hang up. I haven't picked up yet. Last night they left a message on the machine jerking off. I know it's him but I can't trace the number back. I think he's using one of those sites listed above. I don't know what to do. I can't go to the police because he hasn't touched me. you know how that works. What do I do??

My own number calling me.

So yesterday I got a text from some random number saying Hi and that we go way back and if I guess who it is correctly then I get 50 bucks on monday and I knew they wouldn't give me 50 bucks so I told them I didn't care about the money just to tell me who it is. And then said they'd give the money to my friend instead. Then they asked me to go to the mall to meet up with him because he hasn't seen me in a long time. I didn't g of course. So then they randomly ask me if I have a butt plug on? And then soon after the conversation ended. Now today my OWN cell phone number calls me.. I pick up because I'm confused. ( I thought it'd be tmobile telling me my bull was due.) So I pick up the phone and they ask me "What are you doing?" It it robotic high voice. But you could tell that a normal voice was being edited by a computer. So I IMMEDIATELY hang up and now I'm freaking out. Somebdy please help me.

What type of phone do you

What type of phone do you have?

the same thing happened to my son last night

Sorry your freaking out. The same thing happened to my son last night only the person that called was really foul. I dont know how anyone is able to make your number show on the caller id, but keep an eye on your bill. I will be calling our provider and asking them to take a look at our bill to see if they can see the true number that the call came from.

false caller ID

When I call my landline phone from my cell, the number that appears on the caller id is that of a calling card service. No one calls me from that number, and I have never used that service. Both my cell service provider and the landline company are at a loss for answers. I really don't know why this happens, or how. Any thoughts?

Can I block spoofing? I have a number that keeps calling. She tells me my fiance is cheating on me, and she is pregnant with his kid. She calls at 4 am and it gets annoying. This started a fight between us, and I want to find out who is doing this before I start pointing fingers at my immature exhusband, please help...

He's always trying to talk to her and he stalks her. I don't want him to know I had any part in this tho. Iv been trying to give his number to a bunch of telemarketers but they'd rather just have the email. So can u please harass his fone for me? His number is 7152167326 and his name is craig

I recieved 15 missed calls

I recieved 15 missed calls the other day from people I do not know. When I called them back they said they were calling be back to see who I was. I even had a few messages saying they recieved a call from my # and someone was asking for bank info. One message even threatened to call the police on me. I am not making these calls. How can I stop this and how in the world can someone use my # to try to scam people? I called my phone server and they never heard of anything like this and suggested I change my #. I really hate to do that but if I need to I will. Does anyone have any suggestions or has this happened to anyone else? I made a police report on all this to help cover myself. Really scary.
Gee I wonder if all the calls they are making is taking away my minutes. Guess I need to check on that. Thanks for any advise you can share

EXACT SAME PROBLEM!

I just started having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM three days ago. I have digital phone service through my cable company and people have been calling me back from all over the U.S. saying that my number is in their caller ID as a wireless call! The cable company said that is impossible and wants to change my number but I have had the same number for 8 years! I updated my antivirus and malware software just in case it was the laptop dialing through the modem and that didn't work. The cable company came out yesterday and replaced my modem, that didn't work. This is SO frustrating! Have you found any solution since your post?

Also have the exact same problem

Try finding out which Caller ID company is being used by your phone company (i.e. Verisign, Targus, Siniverse). I don't think its spoofing, but its a problem within the Caller ID system, which is not controlled by your phone company.

Had the same problem but knew who it was.

My ex boyfriend did this to me. During our last break up, he blew up my house phone with calls (I don't have a cell phone) & he blew up my Facebook with messages begging me back. But considering I ignored HIS cell number nonstop, he figured he would try off his house number & his brother's cell number. But I'm not stupid, because no one in his family hardly ever calls me besides him (& definitely not more than once, like he had been), therefore, no one would call off his house number & his brother never calls me either. So he figured that since he knew that his sister & I talk here & there & he thought that I would be depending on her guidance the whole time (especially if she called me), he would try 'hacking' his sister's number to call me, tricking me into thinking it was his sister when it was really him. He also 'hacked' my dad's & 2 of my other friend's cell numbers. When I found out the first time it was him, I yelled at him & hung up. Then when my 'friends' called, I was surprised/confused about why they would be calling me at weird hours...ended up being him instead...so I asked him how he was doing that because he was freaking me out & he said "I just know how"...& that's why I'm trying to figure out how it works.

Scary

I've had 15 calls now from an "unknown" number. It sounded like a telemarketer at first, so when I answered, I said "take me off your list and do not call again". Well, calls kept coming, and I ignored them. Still calls came. So I answered this last one, saying that I've already asked them to stop calling and if they call again I will sue. Well, I hear the voice of a middle eastern sounding man telling me that he will call me another 100 times. He responded that if I do not sue him in 2 days then he will sue me.. I asked for a supervisor, he said he was the supervisor. I asked what he wanted, he said, in a very eerily calm manner, and I quote " I want for you to die. I will call you everyday until you are dead. What language do you speak? English?? Well I speak to you in your language then. You dirty mother f$%*&! American. You are all a55holes. I will kill you." Mind you, he asked for me by name.
I called AT&T, they said it either came from a private company or a pay phone and that they couldn't release the number unless it was subpoenaed by a judge. When I looked up my incoming calls online, the number for the call at that time was my own number. ATT said that they have to put a number in when there is an unknown call. They did recommend that I call my local police which I did. But holy crap this whole thing is creepy.

Re: Scary

I had a similar experience a couple years ago, except the guy kept calling my girlfriend. It'll be 3 years on September 3rd. He wasn't middle eastern though. He sounded more like a redneck. I answered what seemed like the 500th call one time after he told my girlfriend he was going to come visit her and make her his b*tch. I gave him my address and welcomed him to come visit me. The thing that got me was he stopped me in the middle of my sentence and finished my address for me. He also said he liked the shirt I was wearing. I hung up and put my girlfriend in the bathroom and told her to lock the door and call the police. I went outside, locking the door behind me. As I started walking down the stairs outside of our apartment complex, this guy comes walking up and says "looking for me?" As soon as I heard the voice, I lunged at him. The neighbors came outside when they heard the noise. I threw him out into the parking lot. As he got up he pulled a knife out with a 6 inch blade. He came at me with it and slashed my left forearm. It ended with him bleeding to death on the ground. It was a mess. I was so thankful for being involved in martial arts for the past 8 years. Turns out the guy drove from Alabama to Ohio. Had I not been there, my girlfriend would have probably been raped and murdered. Sounds like a movie, right? Unfortunately, it was real. I have a big scar on my forearm to remind me every single day.

Good for you!

My life and my little teenage son's has been ruined through this! I had a maniac make calls to the police using a 7 didget number and having this show up on my bill as if we had made the calls. She said things like I have a machine gun and am on the roof or I will bomb and kill all of you police. they picked up my son at 11 years old, ( he is autistic by the way so I don't have money for a lawyer, I am home) the state removed him from my home for the last 5 years, she broke into my home over 4 times, left voice mail messages saying she would rape my son and kill us, tracked him to where the state placed him , they put me in the hospital for 2 weeks against my will saying I was delusional because this is too far fetched. We paid over 2000 to have our voices analyzed through the univ of Utah and it is still not enough to make the police listen. Now, the place they put him , was abusive, we recorded it, told the courts on monday and the theripist spoofed us the next day having learned all about it from forcing us to tell him for the last 5years exactly how it was done to us! The police arrested my son again tuesday, he pressed charges saying he was threatend the whole time my phone is broken and I was holding the phone at that exact time trying to get the phone to work and can prove it. We have learned you can block all out going and incoming calls except for a few numbers you mark as allowed. WE have taped ourselves 24/7 since the event and can onlty hope we can some how prove that this person has done this.
I am so happy that man got what he gave out! I wish to God all the people who have done this get what they have given out as well.!

Re: Scary

If he died due to your actions. Then I hope you find hell pleasing, Thats where you are going if you don't die by the hands of another. (Non-Threat, Just facts) If he did die by your hands then you did him a favor and sent his ass to the good afterlife since you committed MURDER! and the fact you started the fight instead of waiting for the police. Idiot.

Re: Scary

Actually, what I did was legal and was an act of self defense. It was completely justified. My life and my girlfriend's life was in danger the second he pulled into the parking lot. I had no intention of taking his life until he pulled the knife on me and cut me with it. You call me the idiot, but you are the kind of idiot that would have let the man come to your doorstep and possibly murder you. When I came outside, he was already walking up the sidewalk towards the stairs. He drove from ALABAMA TO OHIO. I did the world a favor by removing this piece of psychotic garbage from it. Say he kills me and my girlfriend. Who's next? I was going to get him to the ground and hold him down until the police got there. If you can read, you can see where it says that I instructed my girlfriend to call the police. Unfortunately for that guy, they didn't get there in time. You are the first person that has said I am an "idiot." Yeah, I could have stayed in my apartment and waited for the police to show up. They could show up and he could have left seeing the cops coming. The police can't do anything because they don't have an identity or any proof. They leave and he comes back another time when I'm not there and I could find my girlfriend dead. Yeah, I'm the idiot, right? I'm the genius that put an end to it before it got worse. I felt bad that I had to kill this guy in self defense and even confided in my pastor. He said he would have done the same thing. So, I will enjoy heaven while you sit behind your computer screen and judge me like any coward would do. Get your facts straight before you judge, douche bag. I look forward to another idiotic response from you.

PLEASE HELP ME!

cell spoofing and texting

My husband is spoofing calls right and left to conceal an affair. If you are receiving texts and calls from your own number or a lot of calls are on your bill that you didnt make. (possibly from your family and friends phone numbers= remember a spoofer can use any number only a person close to you would have your friends/ family phone numbers)..look at your spouse or partner. This has literally almost driven me crazy trying to figure this outfor almost 5 years . I am unable to stop it, prosecute (the spoofing/spoofer) or get my cellular company to listen to me.
Here is the deal ANYONE who has an iphone or DROID phone can download applications and do this to you FREE OF CHARGE. Also you can buy cards online to spoof so many calls "google it" for example on tmobile go to your market and searh spoofing applications or conseal calls and you will see the applications and tells you how to call or text anyone from any number you choose even their number. You must enter an email address and your correct telephone number to do this via phone applications. Being that you must enter that information I believe the REAL person doing this could be caught..the problem is how do you know what "spoofing service" they are using and how do you contact the spoofing service??? I have tried unsusessfully.
I am on a mission and I will not stop until I figure out how to get my "ex husband" and his numerous lovers prosecuted for literally almost driving me insane. Other than law enforcement...no one should have access to this "spoofing" and cellular companies are fully aware of this issue but are unable to stop it or correct it therefore they pretend to not know what you re talking about or tell you that it is impossible, UNTRUE.
My husband had no formal education and we are average middle class people. My point is ANYONE CAN DO THIS. i have literally wasted hours and hours of time and now that I figured it out,NO ONE can help me get it stopped. I have changed my numbers but we have children so he has to have a phone number to reach the kids, THE SPOOFING STOPS UNTIL HE GETS THE NEW NUMBER THAT I AM REQUIRED BY LAW TO PROVIDE TO HIM. THERE FORE I CANT STOP HIM.
THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT, AND FIGURE OUT WHO IT IS, CAN BE DONE ONLY ONE WAY UNLESS YOUR PHONE NUMBER WAS RANDOMLY CHOSEN BY A SPOOFER! CHANGE YOUR NUMBER AND DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO HAVE THE new NUMBER THAT YOU SUSPECT MAY BE DOING THIS TO YOU....NONE OF The person you suspects FRIENDS FAMILY allow no one to have the number. IF THE SPOOFING STOPS....THEN ALLOW THE PERSON YOU SUSPECT TO HAVE YOUR NUMBER AND IF IT STARTS UP AGAIN YOU'LL KNOW WHO AND MAY HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR NUMBER AGAIN BUT IT IS A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR SANITY.
THE PROBLEM IS YOU HAVE NO RECOURSE, YOU CANT PROVE OR PROSECUTE THAT PERSON...IMAGINE HOW DUMB YOU WOULD SOUND TRYING TO EXPLAIN THIS TO LAW ENFORCEMENT??? I know I tried, i think they thought i was insane. IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO HAVE THIS PERSON SPOOFING PROSECUTED AND DISCOVERED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME. I know that it is illegal in certain states. I have written to FCC FTC governer...no luck but I WONT STOP. HELP ME

Someone texting using my number?

A couple of days ago I got a call on my cell phone from a man who said he was getting text messages from my number. He called again yesterday, said his wife is getting scared and he wants it stopped. I did not send the messages. I really don't text, just send pictures sometimes to family and to my own email. I have checked my call records for the past month and his number is not there. Is someone using my number to send these text messages? How is this happening and what can I do about it?

A little upset.

Yeah, I'm not really fond of spoofing myself. I looked at my phone bill Friday and my blood pressure went up and yes I almost cried... I'm getting unknown charges on my phone bill. They were long distance charges and it said that I called 411 12 times. This keeps happening to me. What I'm suspicious about is how they got there because I'm not calling anyone. I get phone calls from unknown people sometimes and I pick up the phone automatically dials out or I get the operator automatically. I don't know what's going on.

RE: Someone in my family is using

You are suffering from a rash of private investigators, check your local licensed professional investigators website and see who in your family or friends have a private investigator license, then you will know where it is coming from, it has happened to me multiple times. Don't worry they are trying to make you look insane, you can bet there is money involved somewhere, you need a professional to help you out.

who is this person

i hear that my dauters keep getting scared bye a phone call from there own number so who is this person scaring my dauters cause this is really annoying

RE people caling your daughter

If you listen to the message completely at the end of it it will tell you that if you do not wish to receive any more of the phone calls you can go (then it will give you there website) and inform them

Call came in this morning,

Call came in this morning, and when I answered there was no one there at first (figured it was a scammer, but the caller ID read "private caller" and I answered because I know a few people whose calls come in like this). There was a click and then a woman came on the line. She didn't ask for one of the adults in the house, but demanded to know who called her number earlier this morning. I told her that was not possible, I was the only one home and I didn't make any calls. She said someone from "this number" called and hung up when her husband answered. I reitterated what I said. She asked who we were, and (silly me) I gave her our last name (not my first name, though). As I continued speaking, asking what number she was called from, she hung up.

After looking around on the internet I believe I just fell for a number verification scam. Probably some business makes automated calls to see if someone answers, thereby acquiring a working phone number. This sucks, because we've spent the past two years doing everything we can to avoid scamming and telemarketing calls. Just in case it's something more sinister, I called our telephone provider and gave them notice of this strange call. There will be a note on our file about this call and it will include my concern about the possibility of fraudulent long distance charges or other charges related to the use of our number.

Just goes to show they can nab anyone. See how soon I answer another incoming call with the ID "private caller".

Someone in my family is using

Someone in my family is using a spoof card to call my 85 year-old-mother's land line phone through phony phone #s to tell her everything I am saying. It has her constantly on edge and upset. Why in the world would someone in a person's family do that to their 85- year-old mother. At first I thought she was in on it but then just last night she finally told me "I'm getting sick of this silliness that is going on." She has a land line phone, not a cell. I live with her and this person is using phony phone #s because she doesn't want me to know it is her doing it. She calls my mother from phony phone #s and tells her everything about me. Now, my mother is constantly answering #s she doesn't even recognize because she thinks it is my sister. She is a nervous wreck over it but won't say anything to her because she is afraid of making her mad. I even suspect my sister is somehow listening in on me in our home because she even seems to know things I say aloud to myself in my bedroom. I know it isn't that my mother is hearing me because she is very hard of hearing and does not wear her hearing aids to bed (late at night is when I will say things aloud to myself.) I began doing this (speaking aloud to myself) being I suspected for awhile that my sister was somehow listening in to mine and my mother's conversations.

From what I have been reading here there seems to be no way of stopping this type of craziness. I not only find it childish but illegal as well. This also was happening to me almost 4 years ago. People were telling me that my cell phone # was showing up on their caller ids. I finally called Verizon to see if anyone had the same # as myself and that is when I first heard about spoof cards. Verizon told me it was fairly new but that it was probably how they were able to get my # to show up on others'' caller ids. Why is there not already a law against this? I consider it a criminal act as I have been reading that people often use these spoof cards to call elderly people to try and get personal information from them.

a solution

Shoot her. That'll shut the bitch up.

Scammers

Hi My name is safeer, I have got one phone number which is from south africa, the ring tone is really different it doesnt seem to be a real one..When i tell the person to send me an email. and after i trace it the location is nigeria

can you please tell me why my

can you please tell me why my friend called me and a whole different number showed up? i trust my friend and they swear that they were using their same phone (By the way i have verizon)

I'm getting really annoyed...

Over the past 2 or 3 days my house phone has been receiving calls from numbers that are in my home phone's directory.
we got a call coming from my Grandma's house at 11 o'clock at night. My Father answered thinking it was his mom but it was a really creepy voice just wanting to know who they were speaking to. My Dad said something like. "you called ME, who are you?" and they said something like "i don't know" and finally my Dad hung up.

Then This morning when i was having breakfast with my Dad and little brother, the phone rang. I went to answer it and saw that the caller i.d. said "Daddy" which is a number saved in my phone for my Dad's cell phone. I looked at my Dad and asked him where his phone was and he said it was on the charger in his room. Then my Dad said "ANSWER IT!" because he wanted to see if it was the same people that had called the night before and hopefully get to the bottom of this.

Damn if i didn't actually answer it >:|
well following orders i did, and this time it was a man. i said "Hello" and he said "Hello"
i said "who is this" and of course he said "who's this" i was talking to my dad and said "this is so stupid" and the Guy calling was like "WHAT!" i just hung up after that.

2 minutes later we get a call from my Dad's cell phone again.
i told my Dad "DON'T ANSWER IT! DON'T GIVE THEM THE SATISFACTION!!!" but my Dad refuses to listen.
i was really really creeped out at this point but it got a million time worse.

When my Dad answered all i heard my Dad say was "Hello"...."hello"..........."hello"...........
then my dad hung up.
i asked immediately "what happened?!?!" and my Dad paused and said... He wanted to speak to Angel.

MY NAME IS ANGEL!!!!!!!!
WTF! i was so pissed at my Dad for even answering and INFURIATED that he would actually tell me that!!! i'm so scared!

sorry to bother you,

so the same thing kinda happened to me like just right now.
me & my sister both have the iPhone 3G. me & her were siting right next to eachother.
i had my phone in my hand & she had her phone in her purse. something on my screen popped up. it was a voicemail from her. i told her & she was like WTF! we were both really scared. she went to her purse to check her phone. a missed call popped up on her phone from herself. (that is IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A MISSED CALL FROM YOURSELF, you would be calling your voicemail if you were to call yourself.)
anyways, i checked her outgoing calls, & there was no trace of her even calling me. on iphones you cannot delete just one call, you would have to delete all the calls.
it gets scarier, as i listen to my voicemail it says, "yo it's angie yo, i'm sitting right next to you yo, call me back yo,.." (and this is not my sisters voice, it was some creepy mans voice.)
anyways, my sisters name is angie and she was sitting next to me at the time the voicemail popped up.
WE'RE SO SCARED!

anyways, did you ever find out what the deal was? or who it was?
we're pretty sure someone just wants to mess with us.

thank you so much for your time!!!!

Yeah, I had someone from an

Yeah, I had someone from an 847 number call my cell phone claiming that they were the police and that I had called them 9 times. I looked the number up and low and behold it was from a local PD, but I know how Police work, they wouldn't have called they would have sent a car out to the house, and I would have been questioned to death as to why I made a prank call. Definitely a creditor, me thinks.

They told me they were going to report me to the FCC!?!

Someone called my phone once AGAIN asking why I called them. I've had to explain numorous times to many people (10-15 in the last 8 months) that I'm not the one making these calls and neither is my phone.....just the number.......
All of the calls I've received have been from the same area code as me......
Most sound understanding but the guy who called today told me he was going to report me to the FCC. hahah Well ok then

I feel bad though when it's an old lady and its later at night.

I do not want to change my number!
SUcky

My ex-girlfriend is pressing

My ex-girlfriend is pressing charges against me for sending her harrassing text messages. I didn't send them but they show up from my number. How can this happen? I had Verizon have since changed. I have to go to court for something that I didn't do.

Same problem

I also have an ex girlfriend that is calling and threatening ppl and my number shows up on their phone.. How can I stop it.. I've had to give 4 police statements now, it's really annoying

This is happening to me...

I also have this happening to me!!! It's aggrevating and needs to stop. This not much of a lady, who is my ex's ex-girlfriend is using my cell number and his number (we just broke up) and she text's back in forth like he and I are texting each other and we are not! I can prove it because on my ATT account the texts he receives from my number are recorded on his ATT account log but they are not showing sent from my ATT account. Same with when I get a text (supposely from him) and it shows received on my ATT account but not being sent on his ATT account! This is impersonating and is ILLEGAL! What can be done!??? I've spent hours talking to ATT and to Apple for my IPhone and they can't do anything! Something needs to be done, it's ridiculous and invasion of privacy.
She also can see and read when we actually text each other and then she'll text to him or I without our knowledge, and it causes trouble. Also she uses up texts because I have a limited plan.

We need to get this nonsence stopped!!

Thanks for reading!

There is a phone provider

There is a phone provider that has started offering a new phone. I think it is Verizon but there is a app that you can do this from. My husband's friend did it to him at work. The app can make your phone number show up from another phone in talking and texting and it also has a "extra" where you can change your voice. Check with Verizon and ask them if there is anyway to track your number being used by that app.

caller id showed i was calling myself

just got a call from myself. name was spelled wrong but it was my number....didn't pick it up. glad to see it's not just me. all this info is helpful. I called the police in the event my number is used to harrass people.

also called my phone carrier

also called my phone carrier in the event they use my number to make calls and charge to my account

I guess I am not the only one.

Well, I hope someone can tell me how we can all get together to stop this spoofing. I have to say verizon is rather unhelpful and I know the ex boyfriend of mine who has nothing better to do apparently just uses his new girlfriend's computer(and she works for verizon) and has learned all kinds of crazy messed up things to do with his blackberry and god knows how many other phones he has. So con men like him are able to continue to annoy, threaten, and harrass us this dumb spoof thing continues to exist. IF anyone would like to contact me or reply to this and start trying to do something about it, I am all for it. I just want him to go away. :(

Dialed Numbers showing up on my phone

If someone has spoofed my phone, will the calls they make using my cell number show up dialed in my phone? There are all these numbers I do not recognize showing up and I even found an online account set up with my number that I never signed up for. My cell battery runs out incredibly quickly and even turns itself off sometimes when the battery is charged. All of this started happening after I lost my phone in a cab and had to get a new one.

It sounds like you have a

It sounds like you have a tracking device installed in your phone!! Call your cell provider ASAP and tell them whats happening.

9148164671 calls

I have been getting the same exact thing.........only thing i could find out is that its from Armonk, NY and the carrier is PAETEC COMMUNICATIONS....If you find out who/what this is, please contact me..............benjbron@yahoo.com

If your caller ID is showing your own number....

If your caller ID is showing your own number then someone is trying to get into your voicemail. If you don't have to enter a password to hear your voicemail the call will go straight into it and anyone can hear all of your voicemail messages.

how i can get that

how i can get that

s.30

There is a congressional bill in progress to ban these types of calls. It is called S.30 The full text of the bill can be here:
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s111-30.

What we need to do is put pressure on our congress-persons until they get the job done.

i really hate this guy, keep

i really hate this guy, keep spamming my email. plz prank call or miss call him 0173481729. or try give cocntinouse commercial to this guy

Let's come together to STOP this CRAP

I am called all day long and into the night from an ex-boyfriend (2 1/2 years ago). He somehow found my new boyfriends number and calls me using a Spoof mechanism. I am forced to unplug my phones at night in order to get sleep. This type of harrasment should be BANNED.
I try to document all of the calls but it's impossible because it happens all day long.

There are some Sick Psychopathic men out there. Why would anyone exert some much energy harrassing another person?

Let's come up with a Solution! These companies need to put out of business.

a suggestion

Have your new boyfriend kill your old boyfriend. This will stop the calls.

spoofing card

Don't you think that the police for example could find out who is doing the spoofing by their IP address for computer? I know you have to log in and out of spoof.com.
My situation involves me pressing charges on someone for threatening texts. I really need to know if it was her or someone spoofing.
How can this crap be legal? I heard ppl say they pretend to be the police and use a cop's home number as the fake id. What kind of bs is that??

Start threatening to sue. Maybe that will get someone's attention.

LAWSUITS

WE SHOULD ALL TRY TO SUE SPOOF.COM
Write the governor.
Stop this bs.
I cannot stand the phone games anymore!!

Threatening text messages

What's messed up is I was at the police station reporting my daughter's missing cd case when my cell started getting all these really bad and threatening text messages. Caller ID showed they came from a girl I know and I had her charged with harrassing calls. Now I wonder if it was even her. I just don't know what to think but it's not right.

text message

I need your advice, a text message was send to someone using my cell number I know that I did not at anytime send any text to this co-worker
How can I find out who doing this too me, I took my complain to the police there is nothing they can unless its life threating or death. what can I do

My 86 year old mother just

My 86 year old mother just called me to say she has gotten another call with my son's cell# in the caller ID. This time they pretended to be my son, said he was cutting school & that he was being held in across the border in Canada. They told her not to call the police, her line was now blocked and they would get back to her with further instructions. This is outrageous! I had to call my son's school to check & sure enough he was there in class.
This is a threat of kidnapping that is reportable to police. Unfortunately my mother did not tape the call. I have advised her not to pick up her phone no matter what call id says & just let these calls go to voice mail.

hey

ok well, im glad i found this page! i've received 2 phone calls to my cell phone with my own cell phone number coming up on the caller ID. but wen i answered it, this dude with a really deep voice was asking for Lauren and wen i asked him 'who's this?' he said 'anyone you want it to be. you want me to come over fuck you good?' and i was like ..uhh..idk who you are. and he said 'im your secret crush'. i hung up. this happened twice. now i want to know is there a way to trace where this creep was calling me from or if he can find out where i live...this isnt cool

Also in Canada

I've been getting calls since August from people saying I call them and hang up. There have been 4 or 5 in this period and I've had Telus out to our house twice to check our lines and their equipment. They gave me advice saying maybe my fax or satellite pay-per-view connection was causing it and to unplug these unless I was using them. They said if it happened again then maybe it was one of our wireless phones.
However, it has now escalated. Yesterday we received 9 calls and today we've received 4 more. If we assume that not everyone who receives a call from an unknown number actually calls back then hundreds of these calls must be going out.
We called Telus again and they investigated and said calls are being attributed to our phone line even though our phone is not making them. They suggested it could be Telemarketers.
(1) What would a Telemarketer gain by calling someone and hanging up? Are they verifying numbers to sell them to a database? (If the phone gets answered it's a working number...)
(2) Our phone company has heard of this so maybe they'll be able to have a good suggestion on how to deal with this. I don't know what they will be able to suggest.
(3) Yesterday the phone numbers of the people who called us back were increasing numbers leading me to think that this is a program which is entering in numbers in sequence.

idk

any1 find a way to track this shit yet? I know whoever is fucking with other people using my # goes 2 my school because they are calling people with the same area code as me.

Cell Spoof

In 2 days I have recieved 1654 phone calls. These calls are from all over the United States and the folks calling me keep saying that they have a missed call from my number (i am not calling these folks). My phone provider (Verizon) advises me that it's "spoofing" and there is nothing they can do except change my phone number. I am a Realestate agent and will loose tens of thousands of dollars if I change my number. My voicemail explains that a telemarketing company "spoofed" my number and that I did not call them. I even go on to apologize for the inconvience. Half of the people hang up and the rest leave me messages. Even after my message is heard, most folks leaving a message threatening me and my family, cuse me, and so much more. I have had only 5 people leave messages offering me their help and go on to tell me how sorry they are for me. Just goes to show you what kind of people live in our Country! I have a family of five that is going to suffer along with me because of this! I wish something could be done before my entire world crashes around me and my family. p.s. I can't even keep my phone on anymore becasue it just keeps ringing with out of state phone numbers (non stop).

Same thing here!

I know your pain, this just happened to me. Have you had any success or ideas to stop this besides changing your number? I've also tried calling AT&T and they said the only thing they could do was change my number which I am hesitant to do as well.

Thanks for any advise!

Spoof call

I was just called by a person who at first sounded like a woman or young lady saying" Is (my name) there? It's Mary. We met at the movies this weekend. You gave me your number. Remember me?"

I replied. " First off, it's obvious you're using a voice manipulator and this is a pretty sour attempt at ruining someone's life" They hung up. I don't have caller ID but as I read these post that stuff is moot.

I recently purchsed a few things online and have never had this type of "phishing" before. It is most likely info sold or stole from internet retailers. I never shopped online but for a few select places before and always keep my anti-virus up to date and current.

Iranian Pre-Paid Calling Cards Display My Number on Caller ID

I got a call a couple of days ago from a lady asking me if I had called her several times. I didn't recognize her number, so I told her no and we hung up. She called me again the next day, to explain to me that she had figured out what was going on - people she knew in Iran were calling her with prepaid phone cards, and when she missed the call, her caller ID at her home told her my name and number had called her. I did some research online and found that phone number spoofing is pretty easy.

I am very irritated, because I have had this number for 11 years and all the phone company can offer me is to change my number. I just received another call from a lady (who also sounds Iranian) asking me if I had called her more than 10 times in the last couple of days. These women seem pretty worried about this, I am concerned that someone is harrassing people with my phone number. Anyone have any odea how to make this stop?

i keep getting calls from

i keep getting calls from people saying that my number is calling them and hanging up when they answer.

Not funny

I received a call last night when I home alone in my apartment for the first time since I moved 2 days ago. It was my roommate who said she just received a phone call from my number that said "do you know where your friend is? you better tell her to lock her doors tonight." She called me and told me this and I was terrified. I have never been so scared in my life and what topped it off was the fact that I couldn't make outgoing calls because this person was using my phone line at the time. I sat in my house alone and unable to make an outgoing phone call. I cannot believe phone companies allow this to happen. It turned out to be a prank but if someone really wanted to harm someone, this is all it would take.

practice

With a gun. Don't stop at practice, buy a gun. Then any harassment can be met with a dignified and confident response, such as, "C'mon over, BITCH.. I'll blow your fuckin brains out! WHAT!"

my own number is calling me

Hello, i have a problem and hope some other person can explain it to me. I will be on my computer working and a call will come in. I look up at the answering machine i have on my computer through callwave. Have had it for years, and there is my own home number calling me. Never leaves a message of course but how is this happening. It has happened at least 15 times this year that I know of.
Thanks for any answers
Nessa

Me too

We have a ooma system. It's a VOIP system that allows us to make and receive phone calls over the internet using a regular phone. We frequently get phone calls were the caller id says it's coming from our phone. The caller id displays our phone number and name. In the past I have answered the phone when this happens and no one says anything. Now I just let it go to voice mail and no one leaves a message. I wish I could put a stop to this as they call very early in the morning sometimes!

the same thing happens to me

the same thing happens to me with callwave. i think it must be a bug with them... somehow i am comforted to know there is someone else who is experiencing this tho as i was beginning to worry about it.  thanks for posting.  i'm going to check callwave's website.

my number is calling me

i get 5 to 10 calls a day i have it blocked but it still go to my voice mail have you have any luck putting a stop to it iam ready to have the police do a trace

fake numbers

My mother is repeatedly getting harrassed by some jackass scammer using these stupid spoof cards. The fake number is (408) 123-1234.

He calls her cell phone and tells her she has been randomly selected to receive 500 free minutes. The proceeds to ask for all kinds of private information.

She tells him that she is not interested and tells him to stop harrassing her, but he gets rude. She hangs up on him. But he keeps calling back. He won't leave her alone.

AT&T is useless. They say there is nothing they can do, unless she pays to create a block number list. But that won't work, because its obviously not a real phone number. All he has to do is fake another number and harrass her.

Can't anyone put this damned spoof card company out of business???

Ok what bothers me is that

Ok what bothers me is that the person keeps calling me every hr. N it Shows up like 1-749-719-78. Doesn't even look like a real number. How do u stop calls like this?

cell phone number

We have had a few phone calls at home with my husband's cell phone number coming up across our call ID.....and his cell phone is right on the table by him!!!

I.D shows my phone number

I didnot call a party in Alamagordo, N.M. Yet they called me to complain of recieving numerous calls from my number and threatening legal action against me. My number shows on their caller I.D. when they recieve these calls. My phone service provider says they never heard of that being done. I have had to change my home phone to a different number because of this and to keep it private I need to pay extra to the phone company. I can't believe the phone co. and police never had complaints of this nature.

Caller ID shows my phone number

I have been receiving irate calls from people who say I call them and hang up but my phone number is on their caller ID for the call. The tell me to stop calling them. AT&T in TX has been working on the problem for several weeks with no results. They claim they have never heard of this before. These comments tell me their are other people in the USA that are having the same problem. I have not made any of these hang up calls.

I have been having this

I have been having this problem too....I was getting called by people telling me that i called them as well i was gettting call and when i return they said they never called me .....i complained to at&t ...they told me to change number as well they said ...there is no record of this call coming and going....

now i have new number still i am getting called by my own old number which i just disconected one week ago ....as well many other people are still getting calls from my old number ...

Thank goodness,

I just had 4 phone calls tonight from some irate woman who said I called her house after 10pm on Saturday- not me, or my phone, but she is still insisting that my number is on her caller id several times - at&t is my carrier - I am pissed off that this happened but at least I know that it can happen. She ended up telling me that I was probably having an affair or that I was a drug addict! Nice! At least I know that we are probably both as perplexed as each other.

no way to stop them

I dont think there is away to stop them besides making ur number blocked.. i know that i get tired of it.. and for those of you who have cricket or metro well your sol cause we cant block numbers but we can make are number private... At&t is a good company dude maybe you can get them to make ur number private

AT&T

AT&T is NOT a good company, they are about as worthless as tits on a nun, I had them when I had my iPhone and maybe 3% of the calls I made or received did NOT drop in the first 13 seconds (and I live in a major metropolitan area of the US where their own coverage map says I should have a full-bore signal that should come in like gangbusters)

Fake calls from my number

I too have recently had the same problem! People from all across the country have been calling me and telling me that my number keeps showing up on thier caller I.D.'s. One lady told me she gets calls everyday and when she answers the phone the call is disconnected! The number that shows up is from my cell phone and sometimes shows a 800 prefix and other times my Florida prefix. My carrier also said they have never heard of this. What should I do? One person said the name that appeared was IWB.
Anyone have any suggestions?

a call from home

A call was made from my home phone and we were not at home.
How can this be possible?
Does anyone have an idea how this could happen?

This is life

Now days with all the knew shit anyone can use a computer and if they have your number they can use it as their own... Only way to get it stopped is to make ur number invisy meaning when you call people it comes up blocked... i think its bullshit that people can do this and we need to find out away to stop it...

using my number

even i have faced such situation.but how did you solve it?changing the number often is also not so practical.

That previous message was

That previous message was for Gabe - she is having the same problem he described.

Hi - my mother-in-law seems

Hi - my mother-in-law seems to be having this same situation. How did you resolve it? Thanks

my number, not my company

so you know how some number get crossed with other peoples cells. well i thought that happend with me untill i found out that i got charged 160bucks for a commercial phone bill, so i tracked it down and googled my number and found that a construction company in portland had the same number as me, witch would explain some of the weird business phone calls i had got in the past. so then i tried to google the company to find info on the company, the funny thing was that there was no company just a nuber and an adress, and the adress leads no where. so all i can say is FRAUD!! so if any has been gettin weird calls....research it you might get a bill a few months later that will screw you over

I had that number to make

I had that number to make some prank calls it started off as someone calling me with my same number but i had the number it was fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn..... but when those people call be careful because they can also check your voicemal I have done it pleeeennnnnnttttyyy of times

Someone used my cell number

I have never heard of this happening before, but today I got a call from a police officer in another state accusing me of sending text messages to someone. (clearly rude text messages) I at first didnt believe her, and I asked for the phone number to the police station. I called it and sure enough she was telling me the truth.

This really concerned me, (witch is why I am on this sight right now looking for answers) I have changed my Cell number and would really like to hear any information anyone has on this topic.

They are using my phone number

I've had multiple people call, some angry claiming I had called offered from credit line increases and debt consolidation to equipment rental and jobs. I think they are trying to steal other's identity information but are using our phone number as the return call. I don't know how I can keep them from doing this! I'm almost ready to change my phone number which would be a huge pain since I would have to notify everyone I know, etc. of the change

Hi. Yeah, Im having a bad

Hi. Yeah, Im having a bad experience with this at the moment. Someone is playing with my mind, and i dont quite know what to do. They have used this form of technology, but texting. Is this possible? I have recieved some very abusive text messages from a close friend who swears on there life, again and again, that they didnt send those messages. And, I have to say, as much as i dont want this to be possible, i believe them with my whole heart. They also appear to be recieving texts like this. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Anon 1292 (So you can atleast identify me)

Yeah, it's very easy to spoof

Yeah, it's very easy to spoof text messages, because many web sites allow Internet texting, where the sender is on the honor system to enter their own number.
