Use AT&T U-verse to negotiate a better cable TV and Internet package with Cox and Time Warner
AT&T has recently rolled out a bundled cable TV and high-speed Internet package in San Diego. Still in its infancy, AT&T U-verse is available in only 21 cities with a grand total of 30,000 subscribers. Nonetheless, it represents direct competition for Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable in San Diego. And when there is competition, consumers gain instant leverage. Below are some tips for using your AT&T U-verse leverage to get a better TV/Internet package, as well as a price comparison.
- You've got nothing to lose: Unlike cell phones, for the vast majority of cable TV/Internet packages, there is no termination fee (you could have a termination fee if you get DSL through your phone company). Usually, cable companies do not have to worry about consumers cancelling and going to a competitor, because there are no competitors. So, theoretically, if there were multiple providers, one could switch from company to company taking advantage of free trials without ever paying a penny (...that day may already be here for a lucky few).
- Let them know you are in demand: Happy with your service? Not happy with your current package? It doesn't really matter. Either way, you'll have an opportunity to get the same (or better) service for less. Granted, the San Diego AT&T U-verse rollout is not extensive at this point. However, AT&T has been very secretive about what specific areas are covered, and there is a good chance that Cox and Time Warner are in the dark with everyone else. So give your cable provider a call and tell them you're considering taking your service to AT&T U-verse and that you checked online and it said you were eligible (no matter what Cox or Time Warner tells you). Also let them know that AT&T is offering the first two months free on its 240 and 300 channel packages. They may say there is nothing they can do for you, but be persistent and see if you can't at least walk away with a couple of promo offers.
- Follow the freebies: If you are lucky enough to be in an AT&T U-verse service area, you may not have to pay for TV or Internet service for some time. Just like with cell phones, the good deals are offered for sign-ups and upgrades. Cox, Time Warner, and AT&T all offer sweet deals on either TV or Internet packages, or both. As mentioned above, you should not incur any termination fees for jumping from company to company to catch the next best deal.

AT&T U-Verse Bundle Rates
After one year, the rates are not different than Cox Cable. I really thought with AT&T U-Verse, there would be some type of competition with the only cable company in our area and with the two satellite dish companies. That has not happened. I like U-Verse but the rates are not competitive whatsoever.
I think AT&T needs to concentrate on maintaining their present customers and offering competitive packages after the first year is complete.
I am thinking of reverting back to Cox Cable if the rates are not more competitive in the future.
AT&T U Verse is great
I've had DirecTV, cable and U Versebeats them all hands down. I was with DirecTV for 12 years and finally pulled the plug because of all the ancillary charges. Going to U Verse from DirecTV was like going from caveman drawings on a wall to virtual reality. Can't beat U Verse!

Voltage in my cable lines/5 t v's stopped working over 15 months
Have had nothing but problems since I got U-verse. I have the bundle and everything is not working right. 5 t.v.'s stopped working over this time did not connect the dots so frustrated could not think straight. It seems like they should call it Stress-TV.
So many svc calls so many different things done for what? Nothing. finally a manager comes out and finds voltage in the cable lines from the box(main Box) so he tries to say its my out lets so we tried all out lets and it still had the problem. Then I came up with a bright Idea plug it in my neighbors house across the street see if its my house or the box...It still showed voltage in the lines...they used 2 different new boxes same thing????
Question by me: what are you going to do?( I am not replacing another tv until I know it is safe)
answer by manager: I don't know this is the first time this has happened, No other customer has ever lost a tv or had voltage in the lines...
While we wait, and wait and wait!!!! They need to get this straight and taken care of I have lived in this house for 12 years 3 different cable companies never, never a problem...wanted to have u-verse sounded good..I regret it . Now I just want things fixed and some restitution and we will go from there, they need to take responsibitity where it is due, I have already paid with my sanity LOL!!
if anyone has had there tv's damaged by u-verse or voltage in the lines please let me know. thanks,
please don' correct my grammer I am so beyond seeing straight right now.
Fried TVs
I am having the same problems!! Fried my TV, not even a year old. I am soooo frustrated with Uverse!! I intend to get restitution! Did you get your problems fixed?
Voltage in th line?
I assume you are using coax to TVs in the house.
Do you have an antena amplifier connected? Powered splitter? electronics can go bad at any time and introduce voltage. A bad flouresant ballast with the cable running over it could introduce "noise" also bad coax ground would remove coax sheilding turning wire into an antena.
Is a roof antena connected? beleive it or not and antena can produce a voltage from the air to the ground.
Is their all brand new cabling to each TV?
I have old coax in my place but decided to run new Ethernet CAT5e to each TV. All new coax for a few connections might work.
Residentail gateway has only one coax output. There are four Ethernet ports to use and an ethernet switch could allow more.
No one should have to know
No one should have to know this much to watch a stupid television!! AT & T get it right!!!
That is hilarious! Thanks
That is hilarious! Thanks for the laugh!

Can you run an ethernet cable from uverse box?
I'm wondering if you can run an Ethernet cord from an Att uverse receiver box (using Ethernet port in back of box) to say an xbox 360and still get Internet service or connection like you could if running it from the main DVR box?
P.s I know poor grammar and spelling. On my iPod and difficult to actually catch my mistakes.
Yes you can that's thats t it
Yes you can that's thats t it there for
Ethernet connections
Ethernet is a two way street. You need a switch or HUB to connect multiple Ethernet devices. Connecting xbox to STB is end to end with no Internet connection. The AT&T residential gateway has 4 Ethernet jacks. Connect one Ethernet port and cable to STP and a seperate Ethernet port and cable to Xbox 360.
Incorrect
The previous response is not necessarily true. It depends on how they hook you up. If your old coax cable can handle the 1ghz signal bandwidth, then the installer will just use that as it's already setup in your house. If the coax is old and can't handle the bandwidth they need, they will wire your house with CAT5E or CAT6 network cable. In my case, the coax cables that were already wired in my house were fine.
So, I have U-Verse TV and Internet installed with A Gateway/wireless router, a DVR box and two other set top boxes. The outside line comes in using the same coax cable that Time Warner was using and connects to the gateway. Then a coax line goes back outside to a coax splitter box that feeds the rest of the rooms in the house via coax cable. Each of my 3 set top boxes is connected with a coax cable which leaves an open ethernet port on the back. In my main TV room where the DVR box is, I have a Blu-Ray player with streaming netflix capability plugged directly into the ethernet port in the back of the DVR box. In my daughter's bedroom, I have a desktop computer hooked up to the back of her non-dvr set top box. In my bedroom, I have a gigabit switch plugged into the set top box in that room, with 2 computers plugged into the switch. I do this because I transfer large amounts of data between the two computers in my bedroom, and the STB's only have a 10/100 ports.
So, to answer your question, it depends on how they set it up, but if they use the coax cable already in your house for the install, then yes you will have a free network drop in every room you have a set top box located in.
COAX
I thought of the COAX connected STB option but you can't edit a post after you submit it on this forum.
UVERSE STB and HDPC problem
I have a Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver that switches HDMI inputs and also can capture audio off the HDMI stream. When connected to VIP1200 or VIP1216 DVR, no video comes out. If you hit setup on the receiver, video menu displays and you can adjust settings for everything. As soon as menu is closed, screen goes blank and TV complains of no signal. This seems to be a HDCP related problem. VIP1200 HDMI output will display perfectly only if directly connected to TV. Once you plug HDMI cable into receiver ZAP! no video and sound cuts in and out. I sent an email to Onkyo support for a fix or workaround. Anyone else with this dilema?

Onkyo rec hdmi problem no signal
I have a rec onkyo 600 series it does the same thing must rest the rec all the time. I know spelling grammar sucks.
Try turning off the control
Try turning off the control over HDMI feature.
HDCP issue
Onkyo did get back to me with a possible fix but in the meantime My MUX-HD DVI repeater came in and took care of the handshake issue. Blu-Ray player still has to be directly connected to TV though.

AT&T UVERSE BOX KEEPS STARTING UP
At random intervals throughout the day and night. Its really annoying! I have to either unplug it or sleep in another room. I should have never had the main DVR box in my bedroom. UNFORTUNANTLY you cant pause live tv on the secondary box.
Satellite
There is a lot to consider when choosing a provider for your television; prices, programming, customer service reputation, quality of equipment and others. Being a customer and employee of DISH Network, I can say that from a consumer stand point that DISH was the way to go for me even before working here. the third HD receiver was free, DISH's DVR have the largest hard in the industry, so more recording time, 100% digital programming, the most HD channels in the industry, HD free for life, and Video on Demand in 1080p. The decision for me was easy.

Multiple TVs
My question is this:
We have 8 TVs in our home. We all watch something different. We do not record very often. We all are on the web (We are networked wirelessly) while watching different programs in different rooms. Will U-verse work on every TV, with different programs, while being on our computers? Also all our TVs are cable ready TVs not HD TVs. We do not own a HD TV. I am really fed up with TWC. They constantly drop programs or move them to the converter box. We have one converter box, with cable jumped to every other TV. We don't all want to watch the same programs at the same time. Please give me reliable info. TY!
wow...
Why in the world do you have 8 TVs? Maybe it's a sign to disconnect the TV watching & Internet and go...I don't know exercise, visit friends, spend quality time as a family...Gee Whiz!
with uverse, you will get a
with uverse, you will get a seperate receiver for each tv. there is a 7$/mth charge for the 2nd and each add'l receiver, but this would allow each tv to watch programming independant of the others. You can select regular rcvrs or dvr rcvrs, the dvr's are set up on a "total home" system i believe, allowing programming recorded in one room to be watched in another. also, if you have any xbox 360's, uverse allows you to buy a kit that will let the 360 work as a receiver, too...and there is no monthly charge when you do this.
and for godsake's, spring for an hdtv. what are you waiting for?
8 TVs maybe too much for UVERSE
Carrie,
The maximum UVERSE Bandwidth is 25mb for Internet, TV and phone. Two televisions watching HD programs with internet is just about the limit of the bandwidth available. You only can have ONE DVR per houshold so viewing more channels and higher speed (10mb) Internet is not really possible. I think AT&T needed to make an effort to produce and offer a minimum bandwidth of 50mb for the modern world but they didn't. I have had UVERSE for three years as a single person it has been adequate for me but I know from experience this is not a family grade solution for 3 or more modern televisions, phone and internet. 25 megabit throughput is not enough! I don't think you will be satisfied with UVERSE in your home.
Stephen
"UVERSE a fairly good plan poorly implemented"
Stop Reading
I see comments posted rather recently.... STOP. This article is three years old and all the info is horribly outdated, both pricing and internet speeds. And the jumping back and forth from company to company no longer works; they use cancellation fees, as well as waiting periods to prevent deal hoppers.
And to answer your question, yes, Uverse requires a box on every tv for service.
maybe old, but the practice of switching is still alive and well
The practice of switching is still a valid option.
Especially in this economy and High unemployment. Worth the effort but requires some up front research, and willingness to switch!
Cancellation fees? this person must have signed up for a low income or high risk account???
HD Quality & Set Boxes
Will I need a box at every TV with U-verse? This is sort of a problem, as we have 9 TVs in our house. My neighbor says that even if a signal can be run to a TV without a box, the limitation on HDMI cable will cause picture to be inferior. What are the facts?
9 TVs
Uverse requires a set top box as the IPTV interface and they charge $10 monthly for each extra box! When I signed up in 1997, I was offered up to four boxes no charge and no rental fees, they don't do that any more. The tuner in each TV is useless with UVERSE, set top box requests a stream of sound and video (a chanel) Then server streams that request to your house. The other problem is limited HD usage. The bandwidth of UVERSE is about 25mb so you only get to watch two HD chanels at a time. The digital picture is really remarkable with mpeg4 compression. I compared COX HD to UVERSE HD on side by side sets. On Discovery HD on both sets, UVERSE picture was clearly the best picture.
In your case I do not recomend UVERSE because you need 9 "set top boxes" which UVERSE cannot do and wish to watch more than 2 HD chanels at a time.
"UVERSE, a good idea poorly implemented"

Connecting a second Tv via next door cable box
Hello,
We have a guest room adjacent to master bed room. The cable is wired to the master bedroom wall. Three years ago when we got att uverse the tech installed a cable box in the master bedroom and he drilled a hole in the wall between bedrooms and fed the cable to a TV in the guest bedroom from master bed room. If you want to watch the TV in the guest bed room you turn on the TV in the master bedroom and turn on the TV in the guest bedroom to watch the same channel. After a while we decided to get a separate cable box at $10/- a month for the guest bed room. The cable from master bedroom goes via a T-connection to the guest bedroom and connected to a separate cable box to TV. I noticed that the guest bed room is occupied two days in two months. Therefore I disconnected this additional cable box and returned it. Now please tell me how I can have the guest bedroom cable /master bedroom cable configured so that I will have the option to watch the same channel from master bedroom TV in the TV of the guest bedroom.
Thanks.
Rajan
2 tvs on one uverse box
There is a Splitter (the T ) that sends the signal to the 2 set top boxes(now 1). Basically you are splitting the input and need to split the output. Remove one wire at a time. You need to remove the splitter and put the wire from the wall directly into the uverse box. Now disconect the wire from the uverse box going to the tv. Reuse the splitter as follows ..... connect the uverse box to the "in" port of the splitter (this is the signal/channel out) then on the out ports connect the wire to each tv. With each tv on channel 3 you will be able to watch the same thing in both rooms.

Re: Moby
Moby, you're an idiot.. Cable dead??? HAHAHA I guess you've never hear of DOCSIS 3. Charter Communications has 60 Meg download NOW. They will release 150 meg down and 98 meg up, and that's on coax bubba. Fiber to the node then coax out for cable. You cannot top that with your gay ass U-verse shit.
yes you can
with half the bandwidth, a more robust solid connection and better price. Maybe the pot is calling the kettle black here.
BROADBAND
Damn....you guys are lucky. I'm in San Antonio and all I'm getting is a shitty 768kbps down and 384 kbps up. In fairness, that's because I have DSL basic. The highest tier is only 6Mbps for $45 per month. TWC's highest tier is 15Mbps. We have a third cable company (Grande), who I'm switching to. Their highest tier is 12Mbps, but I'm ordering the 8Mbps for $40 a month. DSL sucks for me because I live too far from the CO to get decent speeds, that's why I stuck with basic.
Damn...you've got DOCSIS 3!! Fuck!!! It'll be 10 years before we catch up to the rest of the damn world!! Enjoy your kickass cable broadband, hoss!! Meanwhile, I'll be creeping along at slowass dialup speeds. LOL.
Get the best deal
I've noticed cox really love increasing their prices like champs. I don't understand how some people can be so devoted to major corporations. Ignore the fanboys and just go with the best deal you can get, regardless of the provider. All digital cable seems to have issues. Cox, Comcast, and ATT have all had their moments of freezing for me.
p.s. 6mbps is more than enough for "serious gaming." It's all the same service and they're all dying for your business.
AT&T Salespeople do not tell the whole truth
I was a Cox cable customer. A month ago, a salesperson came to my house, and talked me into switching to u-verse. I had been thinking about it for a while, and she offered me what I thought was a good deal: U450 (all channels in HD), a second receiver box, voice unlimited, and Max Turbo internet (24 mb) -- all for $157 a month. This was just over what I was paying Cox, without movie and premium channels, 25mb internet, and local phone without long distance and voicemail. She also told me that once I made the switch I could call and get $15 of my wireless plan (I was already a wireless customer). I figured I couldn't go wrong.
Well after she left, I realized that the paperwork only had 12mb internet marked - something I thought was fishy. We accidentally missed our installation appointment, and when I called to reschedule, they didn't even have us in the system anymore. So I went through the whole order again over the phone, and this time the salesperson quoted me a price of $132/mo for the same package. I thought that was fantastic - but was skeptical something was misquoted. I told him that the 24mb internet was the biggest priority, and we were both very clear that that's what I was getting. We went over the details several times and he assured me everything was correct. In retrospect I should have requested that he email me a copy of my order, but alas, all I had was his word.
The installation tech was very nice -- it turned out that the copper line to our house had been cut (in our neighborhood there is fiber to the end of the block at the main road, and then copper individual residences) and he installed a new one. He also converted some of our existing phone jacks to ethernet jacks so that we could hardwire the receivers, xbox and playstation. This took all day - but I was glad we were getting things done. Then came the trouble. despite my multiple clarifications with the salesperson over the phone, he also had 12mbit internet marked on the order. I had to call and upgrade the internet. They did - but they charged me $10 more for the 18mb max plus, and informed me that the turbo wasn't available in my area. Now right here I am a little mad. I had now been told by two sales people that I was ordering 24mbit service. I was switching from a service that ran at 25mbit perfectly well, and I made it clear both times that this was an absolute must-have for our household, and only after I spend an entire day installing the service am I informed that not only can I not have what I was promised, I'm going to be charged more for it! That's completely deceptive.
Furthermore, they had failed to order my number ported over from cox.The technician ordered a temporary number so we could have phone service and told me I would have to call in a half an hour, after my service order closed and request my old number be ported over. I called three times over the remainder of the day, each time to be told that they could not access my account yet because it hadn't been completed and to call back. The next day, I called again, explained what happened. And they re-ordered the number porting. A week later I get an automated call saying there is a problem with my voice order. I call back, explain the situation a third time, and as it turns out, the problem is that I had a "distinctive ring" with cox that had an associated number I was not porting ( I decided it wasn't worth the extra 15 bucks) and cox wouldn't let them just take one number without the other. So I had to call cox, cancel that number, and then call at&t a fourth time to have them reorder the number port. This time, they inform me its going to take another 10 days before it goes into effect. So now I have had both services for over a week, and I finally call cox to cancel. It turns out I cannot cancel everything until they port the number over, or they will lose the number, so I have to keep paying for both until that happens!!! I am really pissed now.
So while I am stewing about this I decide to call the wireless department and get my $15 discount. I figure I had better save money any way I can. So I call, and they refuse me the discount which is supposed to be part of their "quad pack" because that is only for new at&t wireless customers not existing customers. The salesperson completely lied again because she specifically asked me if I was an existing wireless customer, and told me to call after everything was installed to add my wireless service and get the discount. At this point I'm furious.
And to top it all off, I discover that even though she marked that we would be getting several "premium tier" channels included in our package price, they were not included, and if I wanted them, I would have to pay $5 more (I did, because one of them was palladia which we got for free with cox and we watch all the time), and furthermore that the awesome ability to record 4 programs at once that she pushed over and over and over, was only true if you only watch SD channels. Of course, I discovered this when I couldn't watch HD TV and record two other HD programs -- then I looked at the brochure and read the fine print. With HD, you can only record or watch two. Now this is even worse than the cable! With cox, I could at least record 2 HD channels and watch a third. And because the system wasn't tied together, our second TV could record two more while someone was watching. Now, I can only watch HD TV while recording 1 program-- and if I wanted to record 2 HD programs-- no one can watch either TV! !I never realized this would be so limited -- after all -- they advertise like crazy that you can have up to 8 receivers. Why on earth anyone would have u-verse with 8 TV's if you can only watch 2 (or 4 at best )at any given time is beyond me. That is utterly ridiculous.
Again, I love the interface. I love the picture. Even at 18mb, so far the internet is working fine, and the additional phone features and TV channels are great. Plus I loved the idea of being able to watch the same DVR programs from any room. But honestly, I am really angry that I was misled, and in some cases flat out lied to, and that the product I am getting is not what I was promised, and ultimately more expensive. Of course, now that I have invested all this time and energy I don't want to have to switch back, which is certainly what they wanted all along, and that makes me even more angry. If the multiple streaming in HD becomes an issue, I am certainly going to cancel however, because this will be unacceptable. Sometimes I send my five year old upstairs to watch cartoons when she doesn't want to watch what everybody else is watching -- and if I do that now, I'm going to have to make sure nothing is recording? I mean, are they kidding? And who in their right mind who has HD TV's, doesn't exclusively watch HD channels? The difference is amazing -- I can't even believe I used to watch SD -- it looks terrible.
AT&T - I hope you get your act together. This could be a great product -- and maybe some day it will be. But I don't think I can recommend this to anybody with even one HD TV, and the salespeople are complete liars. If I didn't love my iphone so much I would dump you completely.
AT&T Customer Service ARE BIG LIARS!
I was VERY LEARY to go with AT&T Uverse because I have always received HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE pertaining to my landline having charges amounting OVER $300.00 that they had to remove on at leave (3) different occassions, deceptive quote and I say deceptive because what they quote over the phone and when you get your bill is like nite and day! But I decided to try Uverse because of what they advertise the equipment can do on Nov. 23, 2010. But by I agree with the complaints and comments with the MISINFORMATION from AT&T. What they tell and quote is not what you get and when you call to voice your concerns about what you're not getting that you were assured you would get, their response is, " is that whoever you spoke to gave you misinformation! Why isn't mgt. doing anything about what is being told to the consummer. They lie about the discounts, price quotes, tech appts to your home.
AT&T Customer Service ARE BIG LIARS!
Amen to that !!
what incompetent technicians
i am considering to get internet connection again..in the past i used bellsouth dial up..but it was so slow that it consumed much time i was willing to spend on just paying bills, getting mapquest direction..now i have gps and most of my internet needs are met by my work computer.. though, recently, i got a roomate who wanted internet connection. we both work and mostly out so we don't really see why we're gonna pay too much if we don't need much.
now, i have read all your blogs and just comparing ATT and Comcast.
i am just utterly in sympathy with you having to read about misleading sales reps of ATT..you have the best use of why you opted for U-verse, you are definitely TV people and using the service. i think you deserve better treatment for the money. come on now, it's age of competition and now recession...
i learned that yes, reading fine prints help a little bit, unfortunately if the installation techs don't know how to communicate to customers and explain details, it's easy to get wrong stuffs + customer reps over fone don't necessarily have all the solutions right there in their desk, they have a limited plan that they need to sell and have not all power of higher manager to get you the deals someone promises + being transfered to many reps before you get the right person or expertise..
it's like shopping, if you know you're gonna be dealing with heavy shopping, have plan a b & c, reserve your energy, have room for disappointment, do your research beforehand and see the exact features you're looking for.
thank you, i learned a lot what i should be watching for to get internet and /or cable TV..
Similar experience
Something similar happened to us. We really liked the salesman and were pleased with the price. However, there were multiple details that were different from what he said and how the order was written. We ended up paying more than we were originally and now have 1 less phone line and limited local minutes on our phone. We do have HD now which we were paying for but couldn't get (trees?!?) from our satalite provider.
We kind of figured it was simply several misscommunications because of it being so late in the day when we signed up. (For example: our must - have of MTV Clasic was not included in our package but maybe the salesguy got it confused with regular MTV). However, I am now wondering if we were bamboozaled!
you sound like one of those customers who hears what she wants
and then blames the salesperson.
Sales people did their job
I'm in sales and after reading your posts of disappointment, I realized that the cut-throat salepersons got their sale. That is all that they cared about and they won the customer over and got the sale. Fortunately my sales job does not require such agressive sales and is more realtionship based. Bottom-line, read everything from fine print to internet reviews before you sign on the dotted line. Good job on the sales representatives part and bad research on the consumers part. For those people who were won over by the salesman, I have some ocean front property in Arizona that is real cheap and is a rock solid investment. If you're interested give me a call my phone number is 800-Your-A-Dummy.
You sound like the scum ATT
You sound like the scum ATT sends out to swindle people
UVERSE not ready for prime time HD
I agree that UVERSE and AT&T do not have their act together. I have had UVERSE for three years and have an old plasma TV as my main set that does not support 1080i resolution so HD can not be seen correctly on it. Initialy I had free trial period HD programing and got an HD set from Fry's to compare. Had both sets side by side and there is a major difference between SD and HD with UVERSE. They kick COXs low quality mpg2 compression with the Motorola DVR prossesor that uses mpg4 compression for streaming video. Not beeing ready to throw away the $2500 plasma TV, returned th HD set then went online to my account and turned off HD, and saved $10.00 a month. Since I was one of the first people in my town to get UVERSE, have a locked in price of $84.00 at 1.5mb up and down Internet and U200 package. It still cost a few more $ than COX but I can't stand the poor treatment of their customers and constant price increases. Now UVERSE is playing that game too for newer subscribers. I think that AT&T screwed the pooch by not being able to stream 4 HD channels simultaneously. That really seems to be the minimum requirement for a typical household of 4 people. Of course lying to the public because of ignorance or misleading sales tactics is not exactly faith inspiring either. That's why we can thank UCAN for a forum to get information, share experiences and make good decisions.

Do Not Get Uverse!
In the last week I have had to reset my box every hour or two as the picture always jumps and freezes. Almost impossible to watch anything on tv. Furthermore, the cable connection is mediocre at best. If you have work to do online, or are a gamer, uverse is not for you.
After some research I found a class action lawsuit against at&t for their poor service. I recommend googling "at&t class action lawsuit" if you are having problems and are a current customer.
Signed,
Dissatisfied customer
freazing and jumping.
I don't know if you have a Wii or not but I had the same problem and found that the freezing and jumping would happen when a wifi device would connect to the internet .. which was more frequent with my Nintendo Wii connected with 24 hour connect which frequently connects to the internet by itself . Turning this feature off helped a lot. some glitching remains but I don't know of any TV service that does not glitch every once in a while I have had Time Warner Dish and Direct-tv and they all at some point would glitch every now and then.
At&t Uverse Television Plans
I am looking to save on AT&T's Uverse Plans. I found direct uverse coupon deals from RicksCouponPicks and other sites offering the $300 uverse cash back. Does anyone know if there are any specific uverse coupon codes available to save on accessories.
U Verse fails
U verse is alright for people who talk on the phone and watch tv and just browse internet, however for people who are constantly on the computer u verse is not for you. I recently got U verse and every 15-30 minutes the internet goes to shit. I will be at 36.0 mbps and then out of no where i will drop to 1.0 for about 5-10 minutes, at first i thought it was my computer but after i brought it over to a friends it worked perfectly. I am very disappointing with at&t.
First of all at&t doesn't
First of all at&t doesn't offer 36 down so that's a lie and second of all there would be no reason for you to drop that low unless your computer is ancient and needs an upgrade. I have had AT&T U-Verse for two years now and I have not had a single issue with my service. I love the upgrades they are doing with their service and eventually there will be no one that can compare with them. For all you guys saying AT&T sucks...try upgrading the wiring in your house. Everyone knows that if you have quad wiring and RG-59 coaxial in your home.....then your service will suck with any company you choose to get!!!
uverse sucks
Live in a brand new house.....new comps....uvwerse sucks for sure. System slowdowns, you lose the net, u lose everything. Had the modem replaced twice in 4 months. Call 3-4 times a week to have it reset. Wife has an online course and is doing it on her verison droid phone. They shut service down tonight promptly at 7 pm for maintaince, of course we weren't told that till we yet again, calling on our cellphones, at t. Where they said it should complewted in 2-3 hours.
a pos. fix
Do you have HD service with the TV package? They had some problems with my internet and HD TV going on at the same time and fixed the problem on there end. Now my internet is smooth sailing all the time. Call them up and see what they can do. Customer Service helped me out big time!
Uverse
8/7/10 over the weekend it is really bad- the worst it's ever been - went to speedtest and it's download 1.16 mbps.!!!! I've never heard of such a thing and I wish I could prorate and withhold my payment. I'm paying for 6mbps.
I have no choice around here because time warner is overall worse.
Download speeds
I just had U-Verse installed and immediately experienced poor download speeds. It measured .4 to .7 mbps. I called the tech who installed the system back to my home and he found out when he disconnected the phone line, our download speed went up close to the 6mbps we were paying for. (My wireless computers read 5.5mbps. I have not measured my wired computers.) I tried disconnecting my old cordless phones and the technician reconnected the phone line into the house. The download speed stayed near 6mbps. I went out and purchased a new cordless phone system and the download system stayed high. The tech checked and no one in their offices knew of such a problem. I plan to get the old phone system to the technician so their people can test to see if it slows down other U-Verse homes. My phones were modern looking Panasonic cordless phones, but they were ten years old. My new DECT 6.0 Panasonic phones do not slow the download speed. You might experiment with disconnecting your phones during a new speed test.
Just switched & love UVERSE
I switched to the UVERSE this week. La Jolla has fiberoptic lines to a few hubs, then they use preexisting phone line from there to get to your house. To speed up my link they actually rigged a new drop from the phone lines to my house at no charge. I bought the Max U-300 package and tested my connection online...11.5 Mbps! (they said up to 12 with max, even more with Max Plus or Max Turbo). The TV reception is obviously better and has more HD channels than I can watch.

Val, I am very interested in
Val,
I am very interested in knowing what the best deal I can get with uverse 200 or 300 along with the highspeed internet. I really want the 200 but was disappointed when Investigation Discovery channel wasn't included. I know you all are running a $200 cash back and pay $87 a month for 6 months on the u200. When does this offer expire and can I change (degrade or upgrade) my package after the 6 months/ I have noticed that your internet is more expensive than other companies I have checked on.
Please let me know the best deal by emailing me.
Thanks!
Deal? is UVERSE for you?
UVERSE is not cheaper than most competitors. They offer teaser rates then raise monthly charges like every other cable company on a regular basis. I'm one of the lucky few that has a locked in rate for Internet and U200 package. That is until I make any changes in my agreement. If you have more than 2 HD sets in your home and want to watch more than 2 HD TVs at a time DO NOT GET UVERSE! The only thing that is definately better than cable companies is that with your account web site control panel you can add, change, shut off features, pay bills and shedule service without having to call and wade through menus to talk to a service person. I disabled free trial HD online in two minutes, COX makes you call two or three times navigating menus plus wasting hours and habing to listen to them trying to talk you out of it. Don't beleive all the hype about how great UVERSE is, they are not there yet, only a different offering for cable, Internet, and phone. My advice is to see what is available in your town, do research then make a decison. Oh and AT&T UVERSE has very nasty cancelation fees so be aware of that. Good luck on your search!

Mixed Emotions about Uverse
I have been with Uverse since it came to Houston in 2007. It has a beautiful picture. I personally can not complain, but now I feel sorry for friends and family members who have switched over. I have a better rate plan because I signed on early and now it is my understanding that individuals are paying $7 a month for extra receivers. that is totally ridiculous. I have three receivers for free. My aunt who signed on in 2009, only got two for that price. My boyfriend's father pays per box after the DVR. Also someone mentioned early on about not having termination fees like the cellphone companies, it appears that AT&T wireless has shared some secrets with AT&T Uverse.
Another word to the wise, you will have more problems in older neighborhoods where copper telephone lines are used. Uverse works best with all fiberoptic lines. This has proved a big difference in my Aunt's screen who always freezes and my service.
Just a few words to the wise. Ask questions before signing.
man the experts on this page good god
There is a terrible thing running around on this page, its called STUPIDITY. I swear the younger generation needs their ass kicked something bad and needed it since the day their mom with 3 teeth gave birth to them. The fiber optics only only run at the speed of light from point a to point b and even then there are repeaters and the signal can degrade like these morons report cards.
As far as coax speed of sound? What are you smoking? 200mbps max on Coax. Just think of the cables and fiber as a pipe, suppose someone stuffed a garden hose down your big fat mouth and turned the hose on full blast with the only way of getting rid of it was you peeing. Guess what would happen.
There are bottlenecks in every system. Your cable modem, your tv set, your computer processor, the Cable Box, the bus the memory and processor are on, the video card in your system, your nic card, your hard drive, your router, your switch, a cable multiplexer that your retarded neighbor is downloading pornz with a download accelerator on. All of those points can slow down the data or picture before it gets to your beedy little crosseyes. You usually get what you pay for. Computer nics can now do 10000mbps, 1080p is pushing (im estimating since I dont feel like getting up and putting in a Blu-Ray on my Sony TV which tells me how many mbps its recieving) 38 mbps tops with motion. Once it goes to 3D I believe its 40mbps per cable channel which will be the end of coax and that is when you will get fiber everywhere. A pos 286 with a 10mbps nic card can keep up with most cable offerings of downloads.
Copper is over, done, kaput. Fiber is where its at and speed rules. Cable companies have been offering substandard speeds for years because they do not want to upgrade their infrastructure, that costs money. Now they will have to. And thank god to that because Japan has faster service then we do and I have heard the stories on how the whole island shared a 10 meg connection to the internet at one point. We are WAY behind.
Now all you expert, know it all, under 30 highschool dropouts go back to watching Yu-gi-oh and wishing you had a girlfriend or any friends for that matter.
Don't blame on yu-gi-oh, this
Don't blame on yu-gi-oh, this game has become extremely strategical http://yu-gi-oh.fr/
Coax the speed of sound???
Last time I checked electricity runs through copper wires (like coax cables) near the speed of light, not the speed of sound....
On the other hand, the time it takes for your little brain to process all the data it is in front of is still being tested!
Ok.. I'm an IT and I
Ok.. I'm an IT and I personally watched the AT&T tech set my system up.. ok. I previously had cox cable for 4yrs. I switched to AT&T and there's a big difference. Cable companies such as cox have multiple users on one server thus causing bottlenecking. everybody knows that. AT&T, in a nutshell, has a line run straight to your modem from the telephone pole which connects to the cable box. The modem doubles as a wireless router. I have never seen a setup like AT&Ts. The outside coax cable connects to the modem and they have port 1 connected to the cable box via an RJ-45. Whatever internet package you order is what you get. It's a direct pipe. No Such bottlenecking like cable. BUT AT&T is not perfect. I have had it for about a week now. I watched "the Watchmen" yesterday and it stopped after about 1hr & 1/2 and said there were technical difficulties. It's total BS. I had big problems with Cox which I don't want go get too deep into but so far AT&T seems to offer more bang for your buck. Cox had their advantages and AT&T has theirs. It's all your personal choice. I picked AT&T solely for the fact that they have a dedicated line vice a shared line like Cox. Judging between the two I think I'm gonna go AT&T only for the price. There's a lot of differences in the layout and I like AT&Ts more than Coxs. Plus I like the dedicated line better than cables bottlenecking line. The modem acts as a packetshaper. Your television pipe is completely separate from your internet pipe. AT&T is by no means perfect and neither is Cox. I will let you know of any updates
An answer to your question
In reply to moby:

I believe the answer is: Your penis would explode.
fiber
I agree with everything you said, however, I have one question. What about those of us that live in old neighborhoods (such as I, here in Chicago) where the cable companies (wow and comcast) and ATT simply refuse to upgrade the lines? They all gave the same two reasons (u-verse is not available in my neighborhood): cost (which would be made up in customer bills anyway) and the fact that many of the lines here run on, over, or under private private property and it would be a nightmare getting permits and trying to gain access to private lots (actual words from ATT) to make the switch. What happens to us when everything goes fiber? Ya know, the little people with copper phone lines and CAT 5 coax?
I have been a UVERSE customer
I have been a UVERSE customer since it came available in the DFW area about 2.5 years ago. I have nothing but good things to say about it. It blows the digital cable that I was on for 10+ yrs out of the water. I went thru 3 different cable companies due to constant buy-outs over the years and all of them SUCKED! When I was on the cable provided high speed internet there was rarely a day that went by that I did not lose internet service for a half hour or more. The only issue I ever had with my Uverse was with one of their boxes that was in our master bedroom. I did not have a hard wired ethernet connection for that one so they used the existing coax. I dealt off/on with that one box locking up and losing signal and such intermittently for over a year. I finally bought a pair of the high-speed 200mbps powerline ethernet adapters (*WARNING* the <100 mbps PL adapters are not fast enough, I tried them) and hooked the box up to that. Its now been more than a year and that TV is as stable as all of the others in the house.
I have 4 co-workers that have been on Uverse for over 2 yrs as well and their experience has been as good as mine, no complaints! If your Uverse service is using the existing coax wiring in the house and your losing signal and locking/hanging up intermittently then the coax could be the issue.
AT&T U-Verse
Having AT&T U-Verse installed was The worst decision I ever made!
The phone service and features do not work properly and AT&T U-Verse Customer service and support is incompetent.
I am having AT&T U-Verse phone service removed and POTS lines reconnected next week. AT&T U-Verse is a joke!
Don't buy into the slick propaganda and marketing BS. AT&T U-Verse technology is seriously flawed.
Never again!
ATT Uverse Sucks?
Over the past few months, we've been converting Uverse customers over to Direct TV. Many of our customers complained about the 3 services not working correctly. One customer complained that ATT was billing her for long distance calling even though her phone service was unlimited. Direct TV offers more full time HD programming than any other provider as well as more premium channels. DTV offers the most On Demand programming in standard and HD viewing mode, not mention the exclusive sports programming like NFL SUnday Ticket. It has a better picture quality and Whole House DVR viewing. Overall Direct TV is the best buy versus all other providers. And if there's a concern about bad weather interruptions, DTV has a 99% signal reliability!! You can add high speed internet & phone for just $55 a month for life if you reside in our 4G WIMAX areas. Contact me for a quote and we pay for referrals: more4less@clear.net
Satellite TV vs Uverse
I was a long time customer of the satellite companies. I started with Primestar in the mid-90's and moved to Dish Network when I could afford to buy my own receiver, I hate contracts you see! The last time I checked Uverse still has an option for no contract obligation. Uverse offers the hands down best bang for the buck in my opinion. Where else can you get 200+ channels of excellent video content + HD service w/local channels + 3 boxes, one of them a DVR + W/ multi-room DVR capability + 3MB internet connection(with a 1mb upload) all for $104.50/month(my bill) and that includes the taxes. Best of all the dreaded thunderstorm dropouts are a complete thing of the past. I tweeked my dish for optimum signal on a few occasions to try and minimize the dropouts, but they still happen. Regardless of what most people will say, the HD picture quality is very comparable to the other HD services as well. I have friends with DTV HD, Dish HD and Cable HD services at their house and none of them have ever said it looked bad compared to theirs, and trust me most of my friends will pick apart anything, no holding back, we all bash each others toys equally.

UVERSE Ain't Cheap
Phil,
Have been a customer since 2007 as a single person with two TV's. I'm luke warm about the service I receive. UVERSE used to claim they were cheaper than other competitors but that is no longer true. They do sneaky teaser rates and coupons but with phone, internet and TV you could be paying $154.00 a month for a less than perfect service. One of the major gripes is anyone with more than two HD sets in their house are SOL because of the limited HD bandwidth available. Also UVERSE started charging for each Settop box so that increases the bill monthly too. NOT RECOMENDED for a family of four or more with HD TVs! Have 1.5 mb Internet and SD U200 only at a fixed rate of $84 per month. The bill did go up $5 a month but AT&T claims that it is taxes and not new charges. The #1 thing I like about it is the total online control of my account. There is no requirement to talk to anybody to get service, pay bills, add or remove services etc. The DVR is OK but it is no TIVO and you cannot use TIVO with UVERSE at all! AT&T made sure you are forced to use their DVR with no possible comercial options for other DVRs. In San Diego you can't get the Padres baseball games but I don't watch them so that's not an issue for me. Frankly I think all of the cable companies suck because you pay a lot and still have to see 8 comerials in a row! What the heck are we paying for cable then? Do some more research and good luck on your hunt for a deal!

U-Verse
I really wanted Direct with the AT bundle attached because of the great price.
I was talked into U-Verse but at a horrible price. No new customer deal, although I had the At&T letter w/direct tv bundle in my other hand. I'm paying 161. for U200, a bunch of phone stuff I really don't need, 3 additional TV's at $7 each, and the price will go up to 191 in 12 months. I feel duped into this. Wish I had stuck with the AT&T offer with the Direct TV partnership. Could have gotten a year with about half off for an entire year and then it went up to 180 or so. Not the 191 U-Verse is doing to me.
Since I already did it, I'm stuck. But I feel gyped since I had both offers and was foolish to call the wrong number on the U-Vers instead of the number on the AT&T Direct-TV offer. If it is too much for me as i'm retiring soon, I'll have to switch over the following year. I'm just stuck now.
Right now I can't even use my AT&T home phone becasue of long-standing issue with buzz and noise. I was promised this line will be underground (10 days or so after the initial install) and my issue with the phone won't be a problem. Not so sure about that either.
Just no warm fuzzies here on the whole thing. I'm afraid I could have done much better.
Looking for ATT Uverse TV
Hello , Looking to subscribe ATT Uverse TV , i checked their website let me know if you got better pricing /deals
AT&T U-verse = $#!+
AT&T U-verse sucks balls. My internet drops out roughly once an hour for about 1 minute. Not a big problem for me while surfing the net, but my girlfriend plays a lot of computer games online and is constantly getting kicked off. Today she is trying to work from home and she keeps getting kicked off her VPN due to the internet dropping (a little red light flashes on the box when it drops). They have come out to try to fix this problem several times and it never improves for more than a few days. Our TV service is worse. We record our favorite shows with the DVR and when they play back, things run smoothly for about 15 minutes. Once you're really into the show, the screen starts to flicker more and more frequently with fun popping sounds until the TV can no longer pick up a signal from the box. The box then completely resets itself, starts playing the show for about 2 seconds before the flickering starts over again. It is maddening. Customer service is horrid. The first time we called about the internet problems, they said it probably wasn't their service, but was a virus on our computer....only the same problem happens on all computers in the household and our iphones (only when connected through the wifi) at the same time. She kept trying to put the blame on the software/hardware configurations of the devices we use to connect. She couldn't understand that there is no way that 4 computers running Windows Vista, Windows 7 (x2), and Linux as well as two iphones were all having problems due to anything other than their shared internet service (if you go into the router's configuration page it TELLS you that its having problems getting a signal). They scheduled a tech to come out, who never showed up. Months later we called again and they sent someone who turned off some switch in the attic that shut down our A/C (which caused us to call an electrician who discovered this retarded switch near all the cable connections - he must have been trying to find a light switch). The complaints go on and on... We are moving soon to an area that has Verizon FiOS. I can't wait to be free.
Also, we use AT&T as our cell phone carrier, only because of the iphone. I won't get started on how horrible their cellular service is. I would not recommend AT&T service (of any kind) to anyone.
AT&T nightmare
I'm sorry dude. AT&T is the worst!!! Their customer service is horrendous and they really don't care. I haven't had experience w/ their TV/Internet side but I was a Cingular customer when AT&T bought them off. I switched very quickly to another awful giant (Verizons) but I haven't had any problems with them. I'm a little apprehensive b/c AT&T is the sole provider in my area (Spring, TX) and my appt complex requires you use AT&T TV service...YOu can pick your own Internet provider but then it sucks b/c you only get a better deal usually when you do a bundle AND in my case it doesn't matter b/c there is no other Internet provider in my area...I chose to live in this appt complex b/c I love the area & it's close to work...I might go w/o TV but Internet Service is critical. I'll go a year w/ just internet & maybe move elsewhere if I run into the same kind of trouble you & other people in this forum have. Good luck & hope you guys are now free (since its 2011) from the AT&T nightmare!

ATT U Verse does suck it
ATT U Verse does suck it keeps on dropping all 3 for me the home phone Internet and tv with no service until the following business day no 24 service technicians. They even charged me $55 for a service call after the 3rd time the same thing happened cause one of the technicians said that it went back on by itself. I am having an investigation placed on my account however this is the month I'm switching to a different provider. Never again. AT&T sucks. Ps about your cellular just have your phone ulocked and switch to tmobile as I did. No $200 bills but unlimited phone and Internet for 80 bucks
Not sure if this is your
Not sure if this is your problem also, but check any internal switches or routers that are connected. See if the problems go away after removing the switch or router from the network. I had a switch that worked fine most of the time but created a situation that sounds extremely similar to your problems.
UVERSE Problems
Sounds like you are at the edge of serviceability which is approximately 1000' from the VRAD box. If you are that far away they can "double gang" the line to your house. Next question is, do you have all new wiring to your devices? are you using some old COAX and/or Ethernet cables? Did they drop a new twisted pair from the pole? The Tech doing the install is critical in making it work properly. I'm a Network Engineer and lucky because the Tech I got was very knowledgable and answered all of my technical questions. He even showed me his line tools to test bandwidth and packet error counts. When a Tech is around ask as many questions as you can think of, ask what are your options? ask to see how they test bandwidth and quality of service. When talking to a Tech try to bring up concerns, not complaints or whining, they're the guys who have solutions for you, be respectful. Tech should tell you some useful information. Keep hounding AT&T customer service until you get what you're paying for! Good luck with working out the issues.

UVERSE DAMAGED MY TELEVISION
As soon as I got Uverse TV, my TV screen began getting weird and after two months of the same, I dropped the Uverse TV. Now, one month after dropping Uverse, my TV has been gradually getting worse. I have to turn it on and off about 3 times before it will stay on and give me a ready screen. I've never had problems with this TV until now.
UVERSE did not hurt your television!
The Uverse box did not hurt your TV.
I have been working on and repairing electronics for about 30 yrs now and based on the circumstances you have described here, the Uverse did not kill your TV. The fact that it started acting wierd when you first hooked up the Uverse box is a coincidence, or it put an additional load on a part that was already marginal and destined to fail to begin with.
You're an idiot! If you
You're an idiot! If you really think that Uverse can hurt your tv than you're a real idiot! The TV has no idea about anything except the signal coming in and how do work with it. There's no hidden voltages or anything like that. This is Laughable to anyone with a brain. Oh, and common sense.
hey
what are you talking about give what needs to be given because i need help! please i am being nice

Don't think so!
NO,,,, actually it cannot burn out the bulb in your TV. For future reference, its not wise to give advice about things that you OBVIOUSLY have no clue about!
nice The HDMI cable can send
nice The HDMI cable can send data to your TV for HD and sound. and the other cable do have a voltage and it is not hidden just vary low and if it gets to high it will mess up your tv. so go back and learn how to work before you call some one an idiot.
Wow...full of idiots
Really? Any electronic device has the potential to short out or damage another device when the connections between them have an electrical current running through it. Is it U-Verse? it may be the device but it is definitely not the service. Cable and Satellite have the same chance to damage your TV as U-Verse...if you're having problems, get your Surge protector/UPS checked out.
Also, if you are going to blame a companies product for your idiocy, please go back to school first and learn some grammar and how to spell...
Hey, grammar police....it's
Hey, grammar police....it's "company's", not companies.
U-Verse box damaging a TV
I had two brand new Flat TV eith a surge protector and both were damage when connected to U-Verse reciever. First TV worked for about two weeks and all of sudden turned dark and dull. Try to fix it but didn't work. Returned the TV and got another one. Connected it again on Sunday and buy Monday night this time the screen went black with lines. Took it back to the store where I bought it and was told by the tech to check the cable box or line because the damage was caused by it.
I called U-Verse and they want me to try another TV to see if the problems persists and then they will send a AT&T tech to my house. I think I shouldn't try another TV and have it damage in order for them to send somebody to check the receiver and or the line.
Getting out of U-Verse.
maybe get a good tv moron....
maybe get a good tv moron....
REALLY??
I have had the same problem. My 42 inch big screen went black, I then hooked up my 37 inch and it went out along with my PS3. Over 1800.00 dollars in damage. Coincidence? i think not.
Toledo, OH AT&T Uverse
I wish Toledo, Ohio had it's comparison. Since we have neither Cox or TWC, we need a comparison on "BUCKEYE CABLESYSTEM." Since this company is in Ohio and Michigan, it would be nice to be able to inform the potential consumers on what and how much the serves are, in comparison. I've been eye-balling the IPTV services, such as: Uverse, VIOS, SEZMI, SKY ANGEL, etc. These are in comparison to Buckeye, which you CAN get in all apartments, unlike the 18" parabolic dishes... especially if you face north. However, only Sky Angel is national... but few channels.
There is no actual "Toledo competition" to the Buckeye Cablesystem. TWC and and charter are near, but not in town. The suburbs have the competitors. The problem is that Ohio is terrible at opening competition.
I was so disgusted with Buckeye Cable, I am only on antenna TV now. I would kill for a cheaper version of Cable networks and locals. However, most cable nets are around $60.00 US. Kind of funny, since cable providers get monies from infomercials on Public access TV stations, and from playing them on"blacked out" tv stations, in adjacent markets. Example, If 2 stations on cable show the same program, the local can ask the cable provider to "cover" the other signal. This happens to us, on WDIV Channel 45 (DT, channel 45-Buckeye) in Detroit, for viewer-ship on WNWO 49 (DT, channel 10-Buckeye), on Buckeye. oth are NBC.
With the above issuesof monopoly, loss of channels, dual incomes, I feel it is a necessity for there to be a toledo, Ohio comparison on Cable, Parabolic Dishes, and IPTV providers. It would do a world of good to the consumers, and empower them to make the best... and possibly the cheaper choice.
i just got AT&T uverse in
i just got AT&T uverse in toledo ohio and said goodbye to suckeye cablesystem. i was very unhappy with buckeyes service and especially their internet speed and reliability. im much happier with uverse and for the same price i was paying buckeye ive now got more channels and faster internet
Uversse in Toledo
You must be in the 2 block radius that AT&T Uverse is available. Funny how they run the ads making people think it's all over Toledo, but it's not. Just the "rich", or what they think is "rich" areas of Toledo.
Toledo Access
AT&T is so big that even if though they're the king of communication, they can't even communicate between divisions. I live in San Diego 400 feet from a live VRAD box. Calling most of AT&T and checking WEB sites they all emphatically stated "no you can not get UVERSE!" Talking to the city planners and AT&T demanded that an Engineer come out and prove I can't see the VRAD box from my house. They finaly agreed to send a Tech out. He clipped a device on my phone line and said" Dude of course you can get UVERSE signal, the whole neighborhood is wired for it, you could have got it a year and a half ago" After arguing with AT&T even after the test, they finaly relented and hooked it up. It did require a new twisted pair line drop from the pole but nothing else special was required. Since then it has been good service and saved me a few dollars. I pay $84 a month for U200 with 1.5mb Internet access. Have to reboot the residential gateway every three months or so but I'm generaly happy. The highest technology it ain't, but I'm glad that COX is out of my life! If you're interested look for "Stevo" and "San Diego" in this forum you'll see what I went through with UVERSE.
"UVERSE a fairly good plan poorly implemented"

$84 / month! For that slow of
$84 / month! For that slow of an internet speed? That is super slow! U-Verse is ripping you off! I am in San Diego too and have a connection with COX that is double that spped @ 3.0 Mbps plus 250 TV channels with free HD, 4 additional TVs with standard free cable (no box required) for $68 / month! I am pretty sure that is regular price too because it has been the same for about 2 years now. I have been checking into trying out the U-Verse thing too but their prices are way too high and you are right that they seem to not have their act together. I need higher speed for my internet too and COX says they can offer me a package that is only $20 more a month for 12 Mbps.
San Diego UVERSE
COX worked OK, tried their HD and was not impressed with the mpg2 video compression, sound was OK though. The UVERSE HD is mpg4 compression and the custom Motorola box has the power to un-compress and stream mpg4 video and sound at much higher quaility. Borrowed a HD 37" televison and could not beleive the quality of HD video vs SD. Depth of color and black contrast gave more of a three dimentional effect. For me though I didn't want to throw away my pefectly good $2500 42" 720p plasma, buy a new TV and pay the extra $10 per month for 40 HD versions of channels I already had. The standard definition is still beautiful and the sound is great. When the plasma dies I'll turn on HD and get whatever 3D standard wins then go with that. One issue is ocasional hanging of a program for a few seconds but it's rare, happened only 3 times in three years for me. The best feature about UVERSE is the web controls of the system and your UVERSE account. To get service you don't have to go through horrible COX customer service with menus and long waits. You just go online, login and make changes like scheduling service, canceling account, upgrades, movies, add or remove features all without waiting. And since my price is locked in for life I don't have to worry about price changes. All in all UVERSE is a competitor to COX just depends what features you want like the Padres and five people recording at the same time in your house. After all the comparisons they're really just apples and oranges at about the same price. Do you prefer apples or oranges? my 2 cents
Stephen
Hey DumbAss
My 720P plasma does not properly display available HD signal from COX or UVERSE with any combination of settings. Technically you are right in syaing that 720P is considered "HD" quality but here it is no where near 1080P color space and depth of contrast so paying for it is a waste money without a 1080P capable set. Why pay for something you can't see? Only a real dumbass would slam someone with a curt statement like yours. Dude, get a girlfriend and a life! If you're on this site and not looking for usefull information or complaining about the service your'e paying for, you're a real looser with no life and nothing better to do! Why don't you go find a chat site for 14 year olds closer to your speed........

Price Locked in Life?? Revert to analog
I signed up for U-Verse San Diego in December 2009 and then in February they hiked up my package by approximately $3/month on Uverse and $5/month each on innternet and phone. My bundle is 3.0 mpbs internet $35/month, unlimited phone $33/month, and UVerse 200 with DVR $81/month.
Since you say you have a price that locked in for life...Just curious what are you paying? How did you get the locked in rate???
Now that I'm thinking keeping the Uverse TV and reverting back to ATT DSL and analog phone, they are telling me that it is not possible. Anyone having the same issues?
Those that signed up for
Those that signed up for service over 2 years ago did get a "locked price" but new customers cannot. AT&T has lately been raising those "locke" rates though and you will lose your low rate if you make nay changes to your account which you eventually will.
Price locked
First of all I have less service than you do. When I had to fight for AT&T to connect the live VRAD box in front of my house, all I got was locked price garauntee, free month service with U400, HD and the $50 install fee waved. My service ordered was U200 and 1.5 Internet only. Since then they have been spaming me with internet junk mail trying to sell more packages and mail promotions to my house. For the last three years it has always been the quoted $84 per month until this month it was $91. I'm in Italy working for DODEA schools and don't have the time to ask them why there is an additional charge of $7 per month suddenly. Was not notified about the hike and the service hasn't improved. There were no new features added or requested. Will be back in July and will have to investigate then. Most likey it is or lovley Government adding taxes of some new kind. If you want to cancel services be carefull! You can get slapped with a nasty early conrtract cancelation fee. Actually disconnecting service is quite easy. Log into your online UVERSE account and cancel selected services.
My recomendation is to read that ungodly long legal contract to see what is allowed and fees for cancelation. Other option may be to wait out the contract (usualy 2 years) and look for a new service in the mean time.

Jacksonville (Avondale) U-Verse/Comcast
I came across when looking at tv/internet comparing for my move from Jacksonville (Avondale Area) to VA Beach. We used to have comcast and now currently we have U-Verse (although it looks like only Cox will be available in Va Beach). I have to say in our area (and no i dont work or give a poo really about either companies) U-Verse is not only better quality and speed it is about 20 dollars cheaper a month for more service perks. The tv picture on the hd and channels (we have several more comedy hd, and few others) are vastly better. The lack of on demand is the only complaint. I like the wireless router built in to the modem and the 4 hour power loss feature ( yes i have had to test this). our internet is the 12/18 field and so far after about 8months it has been quick and have had fewer problems with it. I often download extremely large files and to date they have been quick and with little to no problems So far the it has only cut out 2x unlike comcast which was at least every few days. Until about a week ago we have not had any problems with tv service, although it has 3x in the past week frozen while on dvr and I have had to reset it. If this keeps happening I will deal with customer service. I can't complain about either comcast customer service or AT&T, except to say I did seem to call comcast a lot more for unexpected billing hikes. With the internet speed I am more impressed with AT&T mainly because for my work (I work with art museums and PR) . So in this area I would always choose AT&T and U-Verse over comcast.
Now if any one can tell me cheaper and better ways to get service in VA Beach I would be stoked to hear them.
2wire att uverse modem
Do you get high speeds throughout your house? I lose wireless connection when I am only 40 feet away or it just gets really slow.
There is some of yelling
There is some of yelling about who is better. Does TW have faster internet, fiber to Vrad and what that means and more so over all quality and spend Uverse can provide it their telco line via TV service. As a former Tech and Tech support agent for Uverse I could based upon my mood raise concerns from constant issues or praise the quality of legit excellent service.
I have a pretty good back ground in DSL, Digital service before I took a job at Uverse. What amazed me once we got beyond the Dummies' guide of IT service in training, how it began more a class on purely playing it by ear. It makes sense though when it sets in that the concept of Uverse is therefor in experimental stage, so any customer will take a chance of great headaches with not just install, but effects beyond such of limited service due to improper installation, old telco wires, or even more frequent distance from Vrad to prem not allowing the service to be 100 %. Sadly even new premo homes that have fiber optic service all the way to the house absence of a Vrad has issues. Does every house have those issues.... NO. Does AT&T know for sure as a company why? No they don't. Will they some day? Of course the answer is more about when on whether a yes or no. I see 2 problems per experience that its either a sloppy install, or environmental. In a perfect world At&t would dig up everyones phone lines and replace them properly attaching non-VRAD purely fiber to prem(house) service and dedicate purely on a service free of Vrads. Of course thats too expensive at the moment. As of now most telco lines in the ground are beyond their prime. In a chaotic world the service will never be perfect for everyone, but just know that if you have issues with Uverse At&t will attempt to make it right, because they know its no where close to being perfect.
We were told that....
Its sad to read your frustration regarding uverse considering that you work for at&t.
There is no need to read between the lines of your post. Your post clearly indicates that there are serious issues with uverse as many of us have already experienced them.
The problem is that we were told that uverse was great, it wasn't. Some of us were told that we were getting fiber to our homes, it was a lie. We were told that things were going to improve over time as the service matured, that was 4 years ago and today it has not improved. Some of us started with a gateway profile of 27 Mbps shortly after it was downgraded to 25 Mbps now there is the 32 Mbps and not everybody can get it... I know I can't.
In the mean time we saw Verizon FIOS with WONDERFUL internet speeds and superb picture quality and we still have only 1 or 2 severely compressed HD streams. Now we see DOCSIS3.0 pooping everywhere with internet speeds of 50 and 100 Mbps and we are still at 18Mbps which is really 12Mbps
How can you 'attempt to make it right' when the underlying technology is so WRONG? I think this FTTN was a terrible idea and now it the end of the line, there is no more milk out of this twisted pair copper cow.
For me it is the end of the line and time to call Comcast and get TV, internet and phone. Their prices are perhaps lower than uverse and their internet speeds are amazingly higher than uverse.
Yo
dude i had comcast for 6 years i had everything we were paying 210$ a month and we couldnt afford it one month so they charged us 540$ instead which pissed us off and besides that their internet was terrible and their tv was bad would be watching a movie on the main box and either it would stop working or go in black and white all the time it pissed me off alot when i was trying to enjpy my movie and their is never anything good one and only 900 channels hardly any hd and only got one dvr box that could barely hodl 50 shows now with at@t its 170$ a month for us and their internet is 10X faster an cheaper and their cable is amazing i have 4 boxes all with DVRS i love it and i can watch shows in hd on a standard definition tv even tho i own 2 hd tvs doesnt matter the picture is in top quality the movies are amazing and i get more movies when they are realesed then comcast so i enjoy at@t alot more and plus my moden has 4 ethernet ports and wireless built in so i am very satisfied with At@t u-verse.
U verse
I live in the Inland Empire in southern california.
Att called said I can get u verse and told me about it.
Wanted to set me up with a great deal. Said I have to talk it over and to call me back. He never called back. I got a few more calls but never the great deal he offered.
So I said ok why not. Well, I wanted out of twc's two yr. contract.
U verse was going to cost me ten bucks more a month. No real big deal. If the service is all what they say. Reading here its not.
Well the guy came to install. First thing he wanted to know was where was the phone box. i asked why do you want that. He said for the signal. He said the big box outside the mobile home park has the optic line. And is brought into the park. Then its brought to each mobile by the telephone wires....WTF....??????
How do you go from an optic line to a slow phone line and get 12 megs of internet and all the hd tv stuff?????
Also said he would have to spice new ends on the existing cable to connect to their eq. So what if it don't work and I want it replaced back. Nope, they don't do that. What about that free install? Don't include new cable. So, I should hope that this old phone line will bring me all u verse says it will. Not after reading the stories here.
I just can't believe that they are using a phone line for this???
No matter how fast cable or optic is. When the last line to bring all this to the house is a phone line how can you get all they say they offer? Sorry, but twc may suck. But att u verse just don't sound right using phone line. I could go with cable which still can carry plenty....but phone line??
Phone line copper, new = OK
Yes nothing the Tech said was wrong, he was doing his job correctly. AT&T bureaucrats dropped the ball by selling something they don't understand and never plan to understand, they just try to meet MBA's sales goals.
The last connection to any house from VRAD box is copper and I don't know if that will ever change. Technically an optic fiber switch could be put inside the VRAD box and fiber cable connected to your house but right now they don't offer that possibility. All of the copper wires on the telephone poles are twisted pairs that can carry high bandwidth digital signals. The old phone line drops from the pole to your trailer is parallel copper wire like your AC lamp cord and can't be used (10mbps max). At my house the old parallel cable was cut down and a new cable drop of three twisted pairs was run from the pole to the phone box on the side of the house. From phone box, Cat5e twisted copper wire was connected to residential gateway (a router, not a modem device). All the connections come from gateway to set top boxes, network for computers and IP phones. You CAN NOT USE any of the old wiring between pole and residential gateway! Old phone lines can work along side of Uverse but electrically separate from Uverse if you plan to keep the old phone service. Hope this clarifies the issue, just make sure you can see the local VRAD box and that it is less than 1000 ft from your home! Also ask about locked in price for life. I pay $84.00 per month and it will never change!
Stephen
Stevon, Your answer is not
Stevon,
Your answer is not correct. The old copper wires can be reused. My copper wires and all of my friends copper wires are buried under ground and were used for the Uverse service feed to our homes. Some of our homes are 30 years old and so are the phone lines feeding them.
No new or additional wires were run to my house and I know this for a fact as I was with the installer from start to finish.
I do agree with you that it will be a very long time before fiber will ever be run all the way to the house to replace the copper lines. The infrastructure costs associated with doing that are far too high.
What's incorrect?
RC,
I never had underground wire, just the empty tube to the VRAD box. Wire drop from the pole was paralell solid type and could never be used for UVERSE. AT&T does not run fiber to your house anymore, they did it in the experimental stage. Question was "does anyone have new fiber to their house provided by UVERSE". Your underground wire must be existing twisted pair copper wire and rated better than Catagory 3. How is anything I stated "wrong" or related to your comment?
Stephen
The statement you made (read
The statement you made (read below) appears to be stating that people will need new wiring run to their house for Uverse to work. It seems like your statement SHOULD say that its possible that the old copper wiring may not be compatible and may need to be replaced.
"You CAN NOT USE any of the old wiring between pole and residential gateway!"
Paralell wire drop
RC,
I stand by my statement "pole to house" wiring must go, DID NOT SAY "underground to house must go"
Paralell wire drop from pole is basicaly like a lamp cord that cannot carry fast digital electrical signals because it was not designed for that function. If you study electrical engineering, Cisco or network Plus courses you will quickly learn that a phenonon known as "cross talk" between paralell conductors is the problem. For electrical signals "cross talk" cancels (through inductance) the quailty and amplitude of the originating signal. Audio (analog) signals do not have a critical need for clean on/off signal clarity that digital receivers require to function. If you choose a specific frequeny, lock it down tight with a quartz ocilator then twist the wire pairs at a precise rate, you can cancel out most of the "cross talk" between conductors. If the receiver has the same quartz ocilator, you can then stream clean digital signals over a 100 yards or more and it can processes the digital data (on/off signal) at high frequency (speed) with few errors. It works so well that even outside electrical interference is mitigated. On the pole to pole wiring they only use twisted pair conductors and use paralell drop to the house to save money. For POTS phone service paralell wire works well for short runs.
Stephen
U-verse has the ability to
U-verse has the ability to run 3500+ feet from the vrad on the slowest speed profile. It can run up to 2000 feet on the highest speed profile.
UVERSE VRAD distance
Thanks for the information, didn't know the exact distance possible. All I know is that under 1000 feet service works very well with few issues.
Stephen
U Verse
First of all, do you have any clue how ATT Uverse works. It is run through Fiber Optics Lines (that is cables that have plastic or glass insides instead of metal). This allows larger bandwith (huge amount of data at one time), Signal travels at the speed of light (versus regular cable travels at the speed of sound), and it is what the pro's use (they use it to run cables under the atlantic ocean for international communications).
Next, we are currently already using a form of fiber optics...its called a telephone line. So you saying "...telephone wires...WTF...????" is stupid because telephone wires are fiber optic and transfer data quicker. The only reason metal existed was because fiber optic or telephone lines require a device to descramble the line (such as your telephone or in this case the ATT Uverse reciever box).
Also, since fiber optics is new in the world of television, they have to make modifications to current systems, hence the splicing.
Maybe you should go look some stuff up!
Uhm... Cable companies run
Uhm... Cable companies run fiber-optics also on the street! They have been doing this for almost 20 years!!! The speed is the same. Fiber optics are nothing new except to AT&T who use this as a marketing tool.
LOL, Are you for real? Do you
LOL, Are you for real?
Do you know what the speed of sound or light is?
Sooo, uverse is fiber? to your home? WRONG! uverse is fiber to the VRAD and from there twisted pair copper cables to your house. UVERSE IS NOT 100% PURE FIBER plain and simple.
Now to the good stuff.
So signal travels at the speed of light in uverse and at the speed of sound in coaxial? HA! HA! HA! where did you go to school? Let me guess YOU DIDN'T!
We? Who are WE? Do you work for AT&T? If you do that could explain your absolute ignorance about this simple technical concepts. If you don't work for AT&T YOU SHOULD! They can use a genius like you.
Back to 'we are currently using...blah, blah' So you need a 'device' to descramble the line? No shit! Why Alexander G. Bell didn't think of that? Fiber optics new in the TV world? WOW! where did you learn all this stuff? Form www.uverseusers.com?
So they modified the TV system by 'splicing'? Splicing what?
I want to thank you for brighten up my day and I will order uverse as soon as it becomes available in my area which will be NEVER!
bitch
bitch how about i use your ass as a fiber optic center? loooooool eat it whore
Ignorance at its best
What an ass-hat Mr. Anonymous. I see why you didn't have the balls to put your real name, (you have none). There was no real reason to flame the guy before you. If you have an intelligent response, post it. If you are just going to cast off endless insults and useless diatribe go out and get a job where you can use your self anointed genius. You know something along the lines of shoveling manure.
U-Verse
Just for information there is no way to run fiber to house connection. No one has invented a tap to work Fiber to TV. Has to go from fiber node to feeder cable then to drop caple to home. When AT&T gives up there will be a company step in and make the system work. It is the future. However AT&T has failed already in the CATV business. They think only fortune 500 companies are capable of engineering and constructing their system. When they turn it over to a small eager company then it will work properly and off to the moon from there
Fiber to home
I believe you are mistaken. Verizon FIOS is fiber to the ONT media converter box located on the outside or inside of a house See: http://www.dslreports.com/r0/download/1489663~ae1df4371b12e28cb2a3bcb401b0bae9/ONT_Connections.jpg . The box has an analog COAX output for 75ohm RG6 cable for television use. recommend you do an easy google search before showing off on the internet, my 2 cents

Umm. Verizon in Dallas runs
Umm. Verizon in Dallas runs fiber to the home. So before stating something as fact please do some research.
Source... I install the fiber!!!
Check out VerizonFiOS
Interesting conversation. I would recommend you guys check out FiOS offered by Verizon. It is a fiber cable run directly to the house. It is a new line installed from the existing fiber lines in the street, which were installed earlier. I currently have this service in my home in Portland, OR and I love it.
It is not so much the speed of the connection, (which is 68% of the speed of light, compared to coax, which is about 87% the speed of light). The improvement comes in how much data is transferred at one time. The sheer volume of data fiber can handle makes coax seem like a joke, there really is no comparison.
It sounds like AT&T is trying to fool the public by providing fiber in the street but not to the house. That technology is not really a new technology at all, but they try and make is seem like it is a big deal for the consumer when it isn't.
It would be a big deal if we were all still using DSL, then is absolutely would matter what kind of cables the provider was using. But with Broadband the only people who care what is in the street is the provider, because they can service more customers with one service main.
There is a ton if info on this topic out there...just Google it. Good luck to you guys getting true fiber to your homes. Once you have it you will never want anything less.
-Jeremy from Portland
Whoever you are, you need to
Whoever you are, you need to shut the hell up until you know what you are talking about! YOU are obviously the one without a clue. (Signal travels at the speed of sounds in a metal cable instead of speed of light in a fiber optics cable, what are you smoking, dude just because you are CLUELESS don't just make stuff up!) The previous guy Doug, his comment were exactly correct, so don't go bashing him when you are dead wrong. I have U-Verse and was one of the first to be on it. What Doug said is right the BIG BOX he described is as far as the fiber goes and then it is just regular copper phone lines from there to wherever the end user is and this can be thousands of feet. There has never been AT&T fiber just for a residential phone line to houses, period. A lucky few got fiber to their house when AT&T started running it for high speed Intenet and TV etc, but once they figured out their little miracle of getting 35+MB over copper that ended the fiber to the house, at least for a while. Eventually they WILL have to pick that back up and actually run fiber to everyone's home, but not for a while unfortunately.
Your about as stupid as they
Your about as stupid as they come son... do some research before syaing that retarded crap.. no way in hell uverse is more expensive than your service for same channel lineup.. also, you can record four shows at once with cox? oh yeah i forgot thats a no. u think cox would give you the cable for free if they installed in a new house? no dumbass
Uhm... actually, with cable
Uhm... actually, with cable companies, you CAN record more than four shows at a time and multiple HD channels unlike U-verse which can record only 2 HD channels at a time. With cable, each DVR can record 2 channels at a time while watching a 3rd pre-recorded show. So... if you have 3 DVR's, then you can record 6 channels at the same time while watching 3 other pre-recorded shows. Of course cable companies do not promote this very well much to their dis-advantage.
I have had Time Warner and
I have had Time Warner and Comcast and now Directv. None of those provide the ability to record four programs at a time. The limit is two. Their DVR boxes have two tuners. This also means you can not record two programs at the same time AND watch a live program. You can record two at the same time and watch something already recorded. The only way to record more than two live programs at one time is to have more than one DVR box. U Verse support says they do not provide more than one DVR box. I don't know whether third-party boxes will work.
I have a U-Verse installation scheduled soon, but I am not positive I will go through with it, even though I would save money. I have not seen a U Verse box anywhere in my neighborhood but I have seen photos and I will NOT allow one of those monster boxes on my property. I probably will wait for the installer to come and tell me what is possible at my house. Meanwhile I will not cancel my Comcast internet nor Directv TV.
The problem with the Uverse
The problem with the Uverse DVR is it's every tv sharing the same DVR instead of having more than one. My family switched yesterday and it's such a pain. We have three TV's, and if something is being recorded in HD and someone is watching something in HD then we can't even use the other two tv's. Also only the tv connected with the DVR can pause and rewind/fast forward live tv, and if you like the feature where you can record a whole show already in progress, well forget it. It only saves what you watched from the point you press record and forward. We got every channel which is nice, but losing so many features and space (the DVR has as much space as one time warner DVR and we had too) that we are debating getting rid of it. Twice today I have lost the signal from the show I was watching in my room because other people in the house were watching HD.
Issues w uverse
Waited for 4 hrs for tech to set up. He didn't show. Spent 20 minutes being transfered with customer service. Set up delayed one day.
No issues with netflix with cox. Uverse pauses, buffers, puts out of sync audio on netflix .
Internet was fine with cox. Uverse causes jump backs when on line.
Cox music channels clear and good. Uverse makes buzzing noise on music channels and music picks are not as good as cox.
After talking to people and reading the stories about the customer service I am going back to cox this week.
WiFi
One more thing I did not mention. AT&T include free access to their WiFi when you have the UVerse internet service. This is great, particularly if you like Starbuck's or McDonald's, since most Starbuck's and McDonald's have an AT&T WiFi hotspots, along with many other locations.
AT&T UVerse Signal
If you have some problems with speed, freezing, or phone drop outs ask the tech to install a signal booster. We were at the edge of their range and had some initial issues. After the tech installed the booster outside on the line, the service worked great with no more problems.
AT&T UVerse vs. Cox and TWC
I have had the AT&T UVerse service for about a year now. I have the U200 + Internet Pro + Unlimited Voice. The service has been great. Every once in a while the TV picture will freeze, but usually for only about 10 seconds. This is far better than when I had Cox and lost service regularly for anywhere from a few mnuutes to hours. The advertised speed fr my internet is 3 Mbs and using a third party speed test ir comes back consistently at 2.8 Mbs, which is pretty close to the advertised. It is also much better than you can get from TWC for the price, particularly in the upload speed department. I get more channels for the price than with TWC and the phone has been great. The whole house DVR is a plus in that I can record and watch from any TV in the house. I can even set the DVR fro any computer, anywhere, which is great if I am not home and remember I forgot to set something to record. The only minor annoyance is having to pay $7/month for an additional box for each TV, but even with that, it is still cheaper than TWC and they don't charge extra for the remote like some cable companies.
I am moving and checked Cox where I am moving to. The AT&T UVerse is about $30/month cheaper for more channels and better internet speed. I would recommend AT&T UVerse over Cox or TWC any tme.
wrong
The information you just stated about being cheaper than TWC is incorrect infact it would serve you better to do more research on the information before you state cetain "facts". TWC HSD speed is faster than uvers, freezing of the picture does not happen with twc, the "whole house dvr" eats up bandwith and slows down internet when trying to do both at the same time and I know you dont get more channels for the price for a fact. I hate when people dont give full comparisons or inacurate information just as the table above states packages and prices, speeds and prices all of which are actually not correcty either.
DO NOT MAKE THE ATT UVERSE MISTAKE
I switched from Cox to Uverse in Mission Viejo CA about 4 months ago and it has been nothing but a huge migraine headache. I am on first name basis with the techs that come to my house to fix the random problems. Twice lost all landline phone services; HDTV images constantly pixelate when another show is recording. The internet tv program management is not user-friendly. I don't care how much more it costs, I am going back to Cox
lol
well then sir maybe you should fix it your self dipshit cause mine runs perfectly fine and i love it so maybe you should pull your head outtve your ass and fix it for once instead of relying on the cable guy to doa ll your shit for you when something goes wrong cause you cant do a little bit of research and fix it your self.
Unfortunately, Fed up is right!
I really, really want that Uverse bundle (tv/dvr/net/phone) to work for me. Like fed up said, it has been a nightmare. Yes, I too am on first name bases with the service techs that come out twice a week to fiddle-faddle with everything from the mysterious line noise that kills everything from hours on end. They did mention my 32in sony CRT tv as a possible culprit but even with the tvs unplugged it still crashes. Hate to go back to comcast or directv+dsl or comcast internet.
The last straw was when I started get courtesy reminders of past due bill on my CELL PHONE cause they could never get through on their own frickin uverse phone line.
My girlfriend laughed her a.. off on that one!
She said I was stupid for trusting everything on one carrier (Uverse).
Take a big person to admit their mistake and the Uverse 450 bundle was mine...
Uverse TV Limits
Big families be warned. You can only tune into 4 channels at one time. So, if your recording a show and watching a program in one room. The 2 kids are each watching their own shows in their rooms, and your spouse wants to watch something else in the bedroom...This CAN NOT be done as there are not 5 "tuners" in the primary receiver. Or, lets say you have 8 receivers (maximum allowed by att). you can only use up to four of them at a time.
Reason: All the other receivers in the house have to access the tuners and recorded shows on the primary receiver. The receiver only has four TV Tuners inside. Even worse, You can not have more than one DVR receiver. Well, I'm sure if you were willing to pay for the service twice, they would probably give you two then.
This is better than what I've
This is better than what I've been getting with Comcast. I can record two shows at a time. I can record one show and watch one at the same time. If I'm recording two shows, however, I cannot watch another channel without stopping the recording. We're moving nextdoor to current UVERSE customers. They've never had problems with their service. They pay a bit more, but if I got another DVR (to record 4 programs at once) and the 4 main premium channels with Comcast, then UVERSE would be cheaper here... and that doesn't mention the fact that UVERSE has about a dozen more regular HD channels. Comcast, in the last four years, hasn't been able to correct the pinging problem with my internet that pops up a few times a week. Our friends on UVERSE don't have any trouble. Whether or not UVERSE is better, I'm just happy that Big Bad Comcast finally has some competition. I am fed up with fights over whether they will offer NFL Network (they finally gave in), or whether they'll finally pony up the dough for MTVHD or Comedy Central HD or WGNHD (I'm a Cub fan). You all have to realize when you go to a website like this, you're going to get more complaints about UVERSE than praise... because the people who are happy aren't looking for forums like this.
Why rickscouponpicks.com sucks because they endorse ATT Uverse
UCAN Editor's note: We frequently get submission from spammers who place comments with links on our Web site in order to increase their google rankings. We try to delete as many as we can, but sometimes it more fun to change them so that people who are searching them out on google can learn more about questionable business practices. Here's what the shills at rickscouponpicks actually said on a page devoted to the general suckiness of ATT Uverse ...
AT&T Uverse Coupon savings of $250-$400 is being offerd on AT&T Uverse Coupn on RicksCouponPicks but my question is there a specific coupon code where you can input at checkout for additional uverse savings.
Thanks for the wake up call COX
After several years of suppling my cable wants(not needs) at $55. mo. and over $20,000. later, I called out cox for the last time for a problem with dropped phone calls and internet disconnect issues. The tech they sent out in his infinate wisdom saw no harm in resting/leaning his 200+lbs. against a bed post, damaging it,(it only cost $4,000. what the hell, it wasn't his) then to make matters worse, leaving on his 2ft wide tool belt across his 4ft ass, he scrathed a $800. night stand. At that point he was instucted to get out, I only had a limited number of rooms with furniture left to damage. Their first offer to remedy the damage, came from Eric in the claims dept. who suggested I might try appling some furniture polish on the scratches, his second offer came a week later, and was for a whole $150. in Cox services, providing I sign a release, this was quickly, raised to a whopping $175. Being the difficult type that I must be, I actually found this offer insulting and unacceptable, considering the value of the furniture and extent of the damage.
But thanks Eric/Cox for showing me the err in my poor judgement. The next $20K I spend will NOT BE ON CABLE, but maybe a new motorcycle, car, boat, real estate, stocks, investments, travel, cruises, education, Vegas, anything more or less tangible than a cable signal that shows countless re-runs.
No more Cox-suckers in this house. Cox! your out...
stop whining.
stop whining.
shut up. He is right. Cox sucks
shut up. He is right. Cox sucks
There are a bunch of whiners
There are a bunch of whiners on here. I have had Uverse for a year now in oklahoma. ITS AWESOME! Yes the install took awhile but Im glad I switched from Cox.
What are the best TV settings for Panasonic Plasma
I recently got ATT U-verse. Seems alright.
What the settings people are finding that give the best TV picture for a sports game? I know peoples opinions are different regarding quality but I'm not 100% sure where I should start. If you have a Panasonic Plasma, let me know your settings.
Panasonic Plazma settings
That depends, what is the highest resolution for your Plazma? My older set is max 720P with component in and no HDMI connector but there is a extra module with DVI connectors available for $300.00. Tried HD 1080i out of UVERSE DVR for free trial period to see if there was dramatic improvement. 1080i could not be properly displayed on my older set because there were not enough lines of resolution available. I would either get a small box of dense video with bars all around or picture would scale down to lower resolution to fit full screen. Borrowed a 37 inch 1080i capable set and was impressed by HD picture quality and color space. Ended up seting DVR output to 720P and the plazma input to 720P (must set both) then saved $10 a month by not purchasing HD channnels. If you have a 1080i set it's worth the extra $10 a month, set DVR output and plazma to same setting.

I'm Glad I did NOT cancel my Cable
First. I got AT&T U-Verse to be abe to record 4 shows @ the same time!!!! .Yeah Right.
it turned out that you can only record 2 shows.
Second.. The next day The service goes out so did my internet, Plus my Phone ..#@#@& ..So here i'm with NO TV, no internet, and no phone. WOW.
so i called AT&T 800 # using my cell phone it took about 45 min to get to level (2). And then some.
ok so 3 days later they came and fixed it. !!! the NEXT day service went out again.
so i called again and they said just unplug the portal and everything will be ok.
I've been doing that every day now for the last 2 weeks, because the service seems to go out EVERY night @ midnite and comes back @ 9 or 10 AM. I finally got fed up and canceled my U-Verse last month.
now i get a bill for $325.00 for services i never enjoyed. bad equipment, and worst customer service EVER.
Wow. mean while i still have my Time Warner, that i never had any problem with for more than 5 years ,,, I'm Glad I KEPT my cable Service.
AT&T Uverse Scam
I experienced the same problem. When I finally canceled after 3 months of on/off service and hours of tech support, they sent me a bill. Of course I refused to pay it and they hounded me for a year. Then I spoke with a VP of AT&T who deleted the bill. One year later, the bill was back and had to be deleted again.
NEVER USE AT&T becasue it is really Pacific Bell who took over and is now tarnishing the AT&T name.
NEVER do business with AT&T
Columbus Ohio - Let me begin by stating that I have TWC and I cannot stand it. The box is a disaster, I lose the signal frequently and I have to reboot the box and or modem at least once a week. When I lived in Oregon I had Direct TV and was very pleased with it, but I now only have a mobile phone (no land line), DTV doesnt offer internet, and TWC will not provide internet without television.
Literally several times a week I angrily tell my wife we're dumping TWC immediately.
But... I have talked to ATT on 3 seperate occasions to switch. The first two times I discussed the capabilities of ATT with the installer when he arrived at my home after I waited for him for five hours. The installer confirmed my suspicions that the ATT salesperson had lied to me about what ATT could do and about how their promotional offers are set up. I am so disinfranchised with TWC that I actually went back to ATT a third time, and was lied to again.
I personally know 3 people in the Columbus area that have cancelled and then have received very large unexpected bills from ATT shortly thereafter. All three have been fighting it for months and everyone has a comical story of some sort about the boxes they send you.
There is very little doubt in my mind that ATTs box will be more reliable than TWC. How could it not be?? However, before switching, conisder something that ATT will never tell you: IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN 1 TV, AND ARE WATCHING A TV THAT DOES NOT HAVE THE DVR BOX, YOU CANNOT PAUSE OR REWIND LIVE TV. Example: You own 2 tvs. One in the family room, one in the bedroom. The DVR is on the TV in the family room. You are laying in bed watching TV... If the phone rings you are not able to pause the TV. Kind of a dealbreaker in my opinion.
As a whole, ATT UVERSE is more than willing to knowingly lie to its customers to get them to subscribe, and then will do everything within its power to overcharge and stall once the customer decides to cancel.
STAY AWAY!!! DECENT PRODUCT -- SHADY COMPANY.
Unexpected?
All companies make you sign contracts for their services now. Those "unexpected bills" are the cancellation fees that are written into the contract if those people ever cared to read instead of just sign things. Verizon, and other companies do it too. Thats why they give you the "discounts" at purchase of new services/products. Just like on cell phones etc.
Time Warner Cable does not
Time Warner Cable does not require any contracts whatsoever. They do offer a contract as an option though in case you do not want to affected by the yearly price increases that all the companies do yearly. You also get a better discounted rate if you do sign a contract with them.
What city U-Verse?
Wondering what city or area you are in?
I am in Birmingham, Alabama, and my area of the city just got U-Verse. Wonder how it is here?
Hottest Internet Deals Not
Verizon FIOS is not available in San Diego so no hot deals here!
Inquiry about rates, etc. for Internet use
Hello, I am looking for the best-priced/best quality Internet service to use at home/anywhere for my laptop computer.
I do not need any phone/tv services, (I don't need cable, and I don't have/need a phone landline in my apartment) I am just thinking about a wireless Internet connection for my laptop.
Also, if possible, I would like to have this Internet wireless service for my laptop on a month-to-month basis (not on a contract for a given period), so that I can try out the service without making a long-term, potentially expensive committment.
One more thing: Would you have any branches in San Diego, near the North Park/Hillcrest area that I could visit should I have any more questions?
Please let me know what service(s) you have that might fit my needs. Thank you very much.
Uverse was supposed to be the solution. ??
We had TWC/KC for years. Uverse became available a year ago and we switched.
It has some features that are better than TWC - Basically the Scientific Atlantic boxes on TWC that are not DVR's seemed to suck so bad at switching between channels that are sd to hd. That was pathetic.
However - our Uverse service has progressively gotten worse. In the evenings the picture freezes on many of the tv's and if you record a show - it will be recorded very choppy as well. Tech Support came out...and replaced one "Bad Receiver". Still having issues with all 4 in the evenings...
Anybody had good luck with DirectTV ?
It might just be the area
It might just be the area you're in because I've had it for over a year and I LOOOOVEEEEE it! I would never switch back to anything else! It's so much faster and don't have to wait at all when I'm switching channels or getting a movie on demand. Comcast takes forever to pull up the on demand movie you're requesting! If feels ancient compared to Uverse
QUESTION
The wife and I just got U-VERSE yesterday, so far so good! Just a quick question I know with cable you can (T) off the COAX cable and run it into a cable ready TV. Can you do this with U-VERSE? Has anyone tried this yet?
Thanks!
You cannot do this because it
You cannot do this because it is IPTV it is not a regular cable signal so you have to have the box at each TV. You can split the final output from their box to the TV and watch the same program on two TV's, but that is kind of a waste.
Unfortunately, this can not
Unfortunately, this can not be done. It is possible to do this with cable service and is a definite positive perk when you have multiple TVs. U-Verse requires additional converter boxes for each TV. They will cost you $7/ month extra per TV.
uverse splitting signal
From what they told me during my uverse install, it can't be done...basically you need another "box" with each TV...not unlike satellite service.
Careful if you add U-Verse phone to existing U-Verse TV
I'm not sure what will come of this, as I may have no recourse but to pay it, but I'm still rather ticked off. I have AT&T U-Verse TV service and am quite happy with it. I also had an AT&T land line phone which was separate from the U-Verse TV. So I thought, why not get U-Verse voice service to bundle with my TV, save a little money and put all my charges on one bill. Simple right? Well, it might start to be cheaper way on down the road, because unbeknownst to me, if I simply want to switch from AT&T phone to AT&T U-Verse voice (and I've already got U-Verse TV service), there's a little matter of a $149 one-time connection fee. Great! Thanks for never mentioning this to me when I asked about setting up the service. At least with the AT&T phone service they mention the connection fee's cost and ask whether you'd like to break it up into installments. I know, caveat emptor, but I would hope/think that at some point they'd mention "oh-by-the way" to set this up you need to lay down $149 and then at least offer to break it up into a couple of bill installments. Hopefully when I hear back from them, we can work something out. Anyway, just remember that as a new customer you get free installation of your services, but afterwards, anything you add will involve a connection fee of some sort (even though basically all they do is activate the port on the back of the ethernet box which from an outsider's point of view doesn't look like it should cost $149, but that 's a whole other issue).
That cancellation fee is
That cancellation fee is actually waived if you get the phone at the same time as your TV. If the digital phone is not available in your area yet, you can get the "all distance" plan, which is the alternative to it until it becomes available (basically same plan except it's still on the regular phone plan) and have that install fee waived as well.
Agree with you. I recently
Agree with you. I recently switch to Uverse and it's true, you save an extra bucks plus you get better programming line-up.
u-Verse beats cable by miles
I got u-Verse a few days ago. Everything from VT, phone, Internet was installed quickly and works well.
I won't miss the crappy old Scientific Atlanta boxes and the chattering noise from teh Cox cable boxes. I won't miss the fact everytime I order an on-demand movie the box would freeze, I won't miss the Internet speed that was 3 times slower, I won't miss the slow menu programming, the slow channel changing, the lack of integration, or the lach of an HDMI port.
I could go on. But with a doubt, you cannot compare u-verse to cable, they are in entirely different leagues. This si why Cox advertises bunbled pricing, they cannot compete on features and capabilities. They would have to replace all those ole crappy boxes with new ones and guess what, they are not cheduled to do that for years and years.
wow this guy
"YOU CANNOT COMPARE U-VERSE TO CABLE" uverse is cable there genius
how
the government does not tax u-verse as a cable service? It is not a cable product from the technology stand point. It is IP tv.
U-Verse is NOT cable you
U-Verse is NOT cable you jerk. Know what you are talking about before you jump on someone else. U-Verse is a totally different system. It is IPTV, which is in no way, shape or form the same as cable. You cannot use a cable tuner card in a PC with it, you cannot run it to a cable ready TV set either. So wise up before you open your mouth!
Rick's Coupon Uverse Promotions $300-$400 Available Consumers
UCAN Editor's note: We frequently get submission from spammers who place comments with links on our Web site in order to increase their google rankings. We try to delete as many as we can, but sometimes, as in the case of rickscouponpicks, it more fun to change them so that people who are searching them out on google can learn more about their questionable business practices.
Uverse promotions of $300-$400 from RicksCouponPicks are also available for all consumers directly who want to get the uverse tv service. AT&T Uverse does beat cable hands down. Due to its interactive DVR, Remote Wireless Programming are recording plus many other features as well.
Riverside, CA: U-verse Internet routinely slow after 10pm
I live in a condo, and U-verse works just fine during the day and even during "peak hours" when people are home from work. But it sucks if you use the internet late night. The speeds are comparable to 2600 baud. Almost zero connectivity. I am a student at UCR and do a lot of internet research at night, so this situation is a total pain in the ass. Cox cable was so much better for me! If you aren't a night owl, and don't live in an apartment building, U-verse might be fine for you.
But I'll be calling to cancel as soon as I can.
uhh where the hell in
uhh where the hell in riverside did you get any choice other than charter for cable services?
nfl games on uverse 450
I switched from Direct TV with NFL Sunday Ticket to Uverse 450 and have been dealing with my husband and son ever since. What NFL games will they not be able to see? The saleperson told me they can get all of them as they OWN Direct TV. I have yet to confirm this. Please help me understand exactly what we will be able to watch on game night. They like to see all of them!
New NFL REDZONE
AT&T just added the new NFL REDZONE HD to line up. It's in the HD premium tier ($5.00/month). Your husband and son will love it!
I got it, thanks!
I got it, thanks!
They contract with Direct TV
They contract with Direct TV with their packages they do not own them. If you can't get the Uverse services they contract out the cable to Direct TV. If you have Uverse you would have to break out the TV services and go back to Direct TV. Direct TV is the only company that carries the NFL ticket. Hope that helps - a friend in the business.
