Caller ID Scam Using Fake Phone Numbers to "Spoof"
There are Internet sites like www.SpoofCard.com or www.itellas.com where anyone can buy a prepaid calling card. This prepaid calling card has special features to hide the real identity of the caller. There are Federal regulations prohibiting the use of this technology by telemarketers and debt collectors. This service is also a stalker's dream and a victim's nightmare. Who else but telemarketers, debt collectors, scam artists trying to get your personal information and stalkers trying to harrass you, would need this type of service? Even though it is said that the service is for Law Enforcement, Skip Tracers, Private Investigators, etc., everyone knows that these professionals have other means to accomplish the same goal. The "Spoofer" is also able to change his/her voice to be a man or a woman and not sound like a recording. With a "Spoof" call, *69 (Call Return), *57 (Call Trace), and Anonymous Call features to typically provide you with information, do not work.
The people or companies using this service are able to send any number to your Caller ID. As a victim of identity theft, I received calls where total strangers pretended to be someone else and were demanding my date of birth, social security number, current and previous addresses and my mother's maiden name. One call came from a 512 area code and turned out to be the Secretary of State Comtroller Office for Texas to gather information for taxes. There is no state tax in Texas! Another call was a law firm in Tampa, Florida calling to collect debts on three credit cards. Again, personal information was requested including my bank account number. As a victim of ID theft, I did not take the threat of a major lawsuit or the threat of taking my home lightly. These scam artists fortunately said I owed on 3 cards that I had never used or ordered and that were already removed from my credit history as part of the ID theft.
The attempt to personally violate others is inexcusable and reflects the lowest form of human character. Now that a legislator was "spoofed", laws against the companies providing the service are being enacted. If problems had resulted for regular consumers like you and me, there is no telling how long this practice would have continued.

cell phone number
We have had a few phone calls at home with my husband's cell phone number coming up across our call ID.....and his cell phone is right on the table by him!!!
I.D shows my phone number
I didnot call a party in Alamagordo, N.M. Yet they called me to complain of recieving numerous calls from my number and threatening legal action against me. My number shows on their caller I.D. when they recieve these calls. My phone service provider says they never heard of that being done. I have had to change my home phone to a different number because of this and to keep it private I need to pay extra to the phone company. I can't believe the phone co. and police never had complaints of this nature.
using my number
even i have faced such situation.but how did you solve it?changing the number often is also not so practical.

That previous message was for Gabe - she is having the same problem he described.

Hi - my mother-in-law seems to be having this same situation. How did you resolve it? Thanks
my number, not my company
so you know how some number get crossed with other peoples cells. well i thought that happend with me untill i found out that i got charged 160bucks for a commercial phone bill, so i tracked it down and googled my number and found that a construction company in portland had the same number as me, witch would explain some of the weird business phone calls i had got in the past. so then i tried to google the company to find info on the company, the funny thing was that there was no company just a nuber and an adress, and the adress leads no where. so all i can say is FRAUD!! so if any has been gettin weird calls....research it you might get a bill a few months later that will screw you over
I had that number to make
I had that number to make some prank calls it started off as someone calling me with my same number but i had the number it was fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn..... but when those people call be careful because they can also check your voicemal I have done it pleeeennnnnnttttyyy of times
Someone used my cell number
I have never heard of this happening before, but today I got a call from a police officer in another state accusing me of sending text messages to someone. (clearly rude text messages) I at first didnt believe her, and I asked for the phone number to the police station. I called it and sure enough she was telling me the truth.
This really concerned me, (witch is why I am on this sight right now looking for answers) I have changed my Cell number and would really like to hear any information anyone has on this topic.
They are using my phone number
I've had multiple people call, some angry claiming I had called offered from credit line increases and debt consolidation to equipment rental and jobs. I think they are trying to steal other's identity information but are using our phone number as the return call. I don't know how I can keep them from doing this! I'm almost ready to change my phone number which would be a huge pain since I would have to notify everyone I know, etc. of the change
Hi. Yeah, Im having a bad
Hi. Yeah, Im having a bad experience with this at the moment. Someone is playing with my mind, and i dont quite know what to do. They have used this form of technology, but texting. Is this possible? I have recieved some very abusive text messages from a close friend who swears on there life, again and again, that they didnt send those messages. And, I have to say, as much as i dont want this to be possible, i believe them with my whole heart. They also appear to be recieving texts like this. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
