Electric vs. propane: which is more cost effective?
A recent UCAN complaint posed the issue of which type of energy to use in a new home to be built, electric or propane. After researching a bit, I found that electric and propane have their respective pros and cons.
Generally, electric energy can be more costly because according to the links below, it takes more electricity to dry your clothes, heat your home or cook your food.
On the other hand, propane is more efficient, however, more dangerous. From what I read, there are simple steps to take when building a home to address the safety issue with propane gas.
There was one testimonial from a homeowner in the Midwest who compared filling a 250 gallon propane tank for 170.00 dollars which lasted all winter, to the previous winter when electricity was used in the home and the monthly bills averaged 350.00 dollars.

I don't know where your homeowner is getting their propane but I received 160 gallons of propane here in NH and it cost me $671!!! The less you use, the more it costs. I can get propane for my 20 gallon propane tank at a filling station for less than $1 a gallon but for my 100 gallon tanks? It's almost $4 a gallon!!
