The South bay Power plant gets the green light to continue polluting
Citizens of Chula Vista beware! The power plant that lives in Chula Vista has been given the green light to continue dumping "cooling water" in San Diego Bay through 2011. The fight to shut down the power plant has been going on for years.
The movement against the power plant has been ongoing since the 1960's with the goal of revoking the permit that allows the power plant to discharge cooling water into San Diego Bay.
Board members were sympathetic to the movement, but not that sympathetic when they voted 4-1 to allow the plant to maintain its permit, which is due to expire Dec. 31.
