SDG&E To Replace Thousands of Smart Meters
According to articles in the Union Tribune and North County Times, SDG&E is replacing thousands of smart meters. The first 30,000 it ever installed, to be exact. The problem with the meters? The software is too old. And what problems did the old software cause? The UT quoted Ted Reguly, in charge of SDG&E's smart meter deployment, giving this answer: “These older meters got confused.” I'll spare you any smart meter being dumb jokes, as that fruit is hanging just too low.
Now, there are always bumps and bruises during the initial stages of anything new. I'm sure more than one person backed into a trash can when they were first learning how to drive. However, I'm not sure I've heard of anything backing into 30,000 trash cans.
These are the problems that UCAN hoped SDG&E would avoid, as they are eerily similar to the problem PG&E experienced during its smart meter roll out debacle. Michael Turko made note of another similarity with PG&E's smart meter deployment in a segment last week. Check it out here: http://www.kusi.com/features/turko/94304774.html.

Smart meter change of cabinets
I manage a small HOA. We have 14 meters (now "smart meters") that supply electricity to our "smart water controllers". The amount is so small that it does not register on the meter. When they came out to change out all the electric meters (our meters are mixed in with homeowner meters) they took away 2 of ours where the cabinet was rusted badly and have never returned the potion that makes them work- so we have not been able to water (even the reduced amount) and many yards are starting to die. We traced down who to call and have found out that many people are in the same place, SDG&E feels that they have no responsibility to inform us what they are doing, and even though we have had the smaller boxes and our usage is just for irrigation, they want us to spend 2-3 times the cost and replace them with large double cabinets.
My question is has anyone had this same problem- and has anyone gotten them to approve the smaller cabinets?
Thank you,
bab
