SDG&E Blotter: Credits and Discounts

If you haven't had your morning coffee fix, here's a little jolt of SDG&E news to electrify your morning.

SDG&E giving credits to most of its customers - According to an article in the Union Tribune, SDG&E is giving a credit to most of its customers because the services it provides (gas and electricity) cost less this year than SDG&E had anticipated. Good news for SDG&E customers, as its usually them giving SDG&E money. The size of the credit depends on the size of your monthly SDG&E bill, but be warned: if you are a conscious electricity consumer and use less than 130% of your baseline allowance, you will not get a credit.

Some unqualified SDG&E customers get CARE benefits - The CARE (California Alternate Rates for Energy) program provides a 20% discount on energy bills for qualified customers. While that "qualified" word generally means that the customer must meet annual income and household number requirements, a story in the Union Tribune finds otherwise. Apparently, only a portion of CARE customers actually need to demonstrate that they meet the CARE qualifications. These customers are randomly selected--much like ticket officers select passengers on the trolly to see if they have tickets--to see if they qualify.
