Money for Electricity: PUC's one-time bill assistance program

With the summer heat in full swing, relief in any sense of the word is welcome. Popsicples, otter pops, ice cream cones, sea breezes, and air conditioning provide respite in sweltering summer days. However, the bill for only one of these cooling concoctions is eligible for the California Public Utility Commission's (PUC) new program. Hint--you won't be seeing PUC President Mike Peevey driving an ice cream truck around town.

The Temporary Energy Assistance for Families (TEAF) program, the PUC's latest energy assistance program, provides up to $1,500 for "income-qualified families who are unable to pay for their energy needs due to an unplanned hardship." http://docs.cpuc.ca.gov/WORD_PDF/NEWS_RELEASE/122461.pdf

According to the PUC's press release, over $50 million worth of funding has been earmarked for TEAF. The Salvation Army will be dispersing funds to SDG&E, PG&E, SoCal Gas, and SoCal Edison customers. Visit this website for more information: http://www1.usw.salvationarmy.org/usw/www_usw_gstate_3.nsf/. You can also call the Salvation Army at 1-800-933-9677.

In addition to HEAP and CARE, TEAF is a great way for qualified California families to get relief from both the summer heat and the summer energy bills.
