Marty McFly says: Smart Meters are not so smart: Televisions beware!
The new smart meters San Diego Gas & Electric is installing may cause problems by damaging customer's televisions.
It’s not the smart meters, themselves. It’s what occurs when the power comes back on after five to 15 minutes during the installation process. Though not enough power to send a DeLorian back to the future, the surge has fried some televisions.
Apparently, SDG&E sends letters several days before installation, and its contractors knock on doors to let people know they might lose power.
If it’s SDG&E’s fault that something breaks as a result of the installation, SDG&E will pay for it, according to spokeswoman April Bolduc.
