The awe-inspiring volcanic eruption in Iceland this week is causing chaos in airline schedules and stressed-out travelers may be in for  more headaches when they look into their travel insurance coverage.

Health Insurance Provider Hartford Spies on Disability Claimants

Hartford Insurance has been caught spying on disability patients.  Chris Cuomo of ABC reported the abuses of using videotape surveillance to follow people who are clearly disabled and have been diagnosed by a physician.  Are the insurance companies qualified to diagnose disabilities?  UCAN thinks not and wants physicians and patients to determine what is best for patients.  No one wants to see fraud of course, but what you see on the video borders on invasion of privacy and probably feels like stalking to the people being followed and photographed everywhere they go.  Read on.

UCAN Questions Life Insurance Company’s Practices, Department of Insurance Says Nothing We Can Do

In a letter to Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, UCAN raised concerns about the policies and practices of a life insurance company and the Insurance department’s handling of UCAN’s complaint about the policies. To date UCAN has not received response to the letter. We know the Commissioner is busy running for Governor, but we would appreciate a response as to why our request to the Department was met with the response “there is nothing we can do.”
