Geoffrey Smith, MA

Geoffrey covers water policy for UCAN, finding ways to increase our region's water efficiency while looking out for the rights of individual consumers. He can often be seen going after water hogs with the admonition, "Curb your water use! We live in a desert!" This 'Water Watchdog' has 30 years of experience in environmental policy in San Diego, with a focus on public lands protection. Smith, a 'recovering software engineer' (he installed UCAN's first local area network in 1993), possesses a degree in Biology from UCSD, a Masters in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from USD, and has no plans whatsoever to pursue a PhD. A reluctant enthusiast, a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic, Geoffrey spends idle time with his wife Camille -- backcountry skiing, kayaking, backpacking and tandeming, often accompanied by his cell phone/PDA: 858.442.1425
